Anyone get their picks in for 142 yet?

I'm still undecided with the 2 co-mains. Will Mendes' wrestling work out even though he's lacking in overall MMA experience? Will Vitor and Rumble go to war, or will their styles lend to them being tentative and possibly stalemating? Tough to say ... BRAZIL, muthafuckas. Let me know who you're thinking with your picks ...

Props to Theo ... he's got his picks locked in and messaged me regarding same. I am still undecided ... especially the 2 co-mains.

I'm pissed off at Rumble, but I gotta ride with him. I put 20 bucks down on him:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

How he ever made 170lbs at 6+ feet tall is beyond all of us. I was saying to Theo ... I'm 6'3" and 200 - 205lbs. I haven't seen no 170 since the early-90s when I was a kid in junior high. How the fuck was a pro athlete cutting to that when he ballooned to 231lbs at one point when he slacked off on training, and upped his partying as he's openly admitted.

I don't know man. Belfort has been KO dudes for a while. Belfort was getting his ass handed to him shortly in UFC and Pride but he came back like he was old Belfort from the early UFC days. I think Vitor might win this one by KO.

Also, how the hell do you cut 11 pounds so damn fast? Does anybody know?

Bullshit ass card for a bullshit ass PPV. I see Dana is gettin his No Limit Records on with this shit. :smh::smh::smh: The already got me on the last card...I'm cool on this one.

Yup...they should have put this BS on FX or something. I'll be watching on Sopcast...especially since the playoffs will be on at the same time.

And don't get me wrong, it's not all about the big names. Shit these fights will probably be better than the last card. But unfortunately that's not what I'm willing to pay for.

Damn, I have something to watch tonight. I've been so busy with real life I forgot this shit was even coming on.

The weight cutting in MMA is fucking pathetic at this point. Niggas starving themselves to have that advantage and not get completely fucked over at their more natural weights. Wrestlers and the like label that shit science, but everybody knows what it really is. And Rumble is one of the worse, he fucks up damn near every fight because he is not ready to go up in weight.

Mendes is the Featherweight equivalent of Jon Fitch. If he gets his hands on Aldo, he will lay on him all night. Same with Rumble...ever since Koscheck beat his ass, he's been on that lay and pray shit.

Etim and Barboza will be the best fight of the night.

Here's a good write-up from Dr. Johnny Benjamin who does the occasional check-in work with the MMAJunkie crew (Gorgeous George, John Morgan, Dann Stupp, Goze, etc).

I didn't get my picks in for this card ... as I've been off with my picks of late, and I need to do better than 60 - 65% on average as I've been hitting of late.

As for my picks though ... I'm going with the following. Not sure of the round or method ... but here's what I'm thinking:

- CARVALHO
- PYLE
- ALCANTARA
- GONZAGA
- STOUT
- BARBOZA
- SILVA
- PALHARES
- BELFORT
- ALDO

I am unsure though with a number of them ... does Carvalho (fellow Canadian) deliver on his first big stage like this after having been called up? Pyle's favored to win ... but he's had his ups and downs. Alcantara's talented, but ... Gonzaga's been out of the UFC for awhile, but when he's on - he's a quality heavyweight. Stout ... that's my dude right there. One of the kings of collection the BONUS check money ... but how will he do with his first fight back after the death of his brother-in-law and coach/longtime mentor Shawn Thompkins earlier in 2011? Will he suffer the same fate as Mark Hominick with the lapse in gameplanning and judgment, or will he be able to persevere in front of the home crowd for Tavares? Stout is durable, and Tavares is skilled and crafty in his own right. Barboza is a machine. It should be interesting seeing how he matches up with Terry Etim (very dynamic in his own right, and needs to watch out for Edson's striking and kicks). Silva is a young up and comer. Trains with great talent. Palhares is very good on the ground and hard to move around with his compact frame. He suffers lapses in decision-making and fights emotionally though (hence the sports psychologist or therapist in recent memory, as has been noted). Do we get VINTAGE VITOR BELFORT? Or does Rumble come in angry and pissed off looking to kick dude's head off? Should be interesting to see how the 197 - 204lb rehydration process has affected Johnson. Aldo vs. Mendes? Aldo is one of the P4P best in the world. Mendes trains with great guys, but is still young in his career (despite being an accomplished wrestler). How long does he last in there, and is he good with his single- and more so DOUBLE-LEG takedowns and ground control and positioning? Aldo has strong takedown defense. Aldo has had his ups and downs since 2010 though ... the weight cuts and cardio issues ... and the injuries from the past. He's gone 25 mins with Faber, Hominick, and Florian ... despite outclassing them all. But ... he's noted to have tough weight cuts. Whereas Mendes is naturally a smaller build cat and doesn't have to worry about that going into his bouts. He came in at 144lbs at the weigh-in and wrestled at less in his HS and collegiate careers. Then again ... he isn't one of the P4P Top 3 - 5 in the world, and doesn't have his home country behind him like J.A. does.

tired of fools talking about bs card this, bs card that. if you don't want to buy the ppv, watch that shit on sophcast or firstrowsports. the shit has always been free.

you never know how good a card is going to be until it's over. for me, mma is the only sport that i follow and while i don't follow all of the other promotions, i watch all ufc's.

get over that shit.

Mallorquin,

True ... it sll comes down to appreciation for the sport. Everyone thinks if a card doesn't have big names ... it's shit. Or if it doesn't do so many PPV buys ... it under performs, etc. People need to realize there are people the world over following the sport ... as with the other major sports like soccer, basketball, football, and baseball. Think of how many millions watched JDS win the heavyweight strap in Brazil alone back in November. That's in Brazil alone, and not even counting the rest of the world :yes: - although they aren't going to get their huge PPV numbers like they were in the past when they were getting the 800k - 1.5 million PPV buys and such ... reason being is that there is so much MMA in general now, and the number of cards they've been doing and will be doing with PPV / FUEL / FX / FOX ... and previously SPIKE, etc. Not to mention Strikeforce and Bellator stilll doing their thing as well. So many events ... it's hard to keep up. Big cards ... or smaller cards.

Helico-pterFunk,

Could not agree with you more. I remember the first time Anderson stepped in to the octagon. I was telling folks the same thing I said when Alistar was about to fight Brock. "When that cage closes, he is not going to be fuckin around!"

Just think about all the up and comers we have not seen yet.

That was the fight against LEBEN wherein he schooled him years back, right? That shit was CRAZY :lol::lol:

How are people liking the prelims on tv?

Not able to watch them here ... but enjoying the always-strong crowd energy in Brazil (even on the 1st prelim aired on Facebook).
