► OFFICIAL UFC 179 - Saturday, October 25th, 2014 - ALDO / MENDES II - BRAZIL

Great fight.... I think it should have been closer.
I don't think Aldo can fuck with Pettis.. I'd like to see that, and/or McGregor

Alpha male can't get their hands on that title no matter what? Man I want to see Conor and Jose get it on next week, fuck waiting..even though Cub deserves it more

What separates Aldo once the opponent has solid boxing and defense is his legs. If he doesn't go heavy on the kicks and knees shit like what happened tonight will happen. I need to see Conor fuck over somebody like Frankie or Cub before I can say he will go in there and have a chance against Jose. But I still want to see it just for the fight buildup and knowing that stadium will have the roof shaking.

Yeah. Cub's got EDGAR next in late-November. He's well-deserving too (Swanson of his own title fight already). Always in fun scraps. Past 2 fights have been FIGHT OF THE NIGHT. I think the UFC's being calculated with their matchmaking ... seeing as Cub got stopped by Aldo by double flying knee in 8 seconds in June of 2009 in the WEC. Both fighters having massively improved since then ... both having faced tough opposition, and Cub's next opponent (Edgar) having gone the full 25 with him (Aldo) in Feb. 2013.

TJ Dillashaw is Alpa male. He has Baroa's belt... and Connor should fight Mendes to earn a title shot.
Time for Connor and Aldo
Who has Conor actually beaten to earn a title shot? How many top 5 guys has he fought? Cub deserves the shot and Connor should have to prove himself against top competition (which Dennis Sever is not).

I said that belt..the one on the line tonight. They have had several cracks at it
Which is more than can be said for most of the other UFC fight teams. Either way, beating Dennis Siver shouldn't be a qualifier for the title for Connor. Frankie's booked to fight and Cub has earned next. Connor and Mendez have already gotten their prefight trash talking rolling. That should be Connor's next fight... which I doubt he'd win.

These guys have to learn that this is not boxing and there are no mandatory fights. You have to state what you want, put out the challenge and talk shit if necessary...all the while winning...or you have to keep winning in the fashion of A.Silva...highlight reel finishes to get the belt. Dana is about the dollar first and who deserves what second.

Which is why UFC's fighter "ranking" is panned as a joke.

:smh::eek: what fight was you watching to see ring girls asses cause those females had flat asses like the usa girls have lol...

"I can rest my balls on your forehead"

I was laughing too when Mendes asked him how tall he was ... and he said with smug confidence 5'9", and then corrected Chad's statement of being 5'6" and said "you're 5'4", at least ..." and told him to stand up as they couldn't see him too well on the monitor ...

The one on the RIGHT needs to show us that full-frontal punani ...

Twitter reacts to Jose Aldo's UFC 179 'Fight of Year' candidate vs. Chad Mendes

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo successfully defended his championship for the seventh time with a unanimous decision victory over Chad Mendes in the UFC 179 headliner at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanazinho Gymnasium.

The contest marked the first rematch in 145-pound title history after Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) and Mendes (16-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) first met in January 2012. Aldo won the first meeting by knockout, and once again, he came out the winner, but this time after five hard-fought rounds of action.

With the win, Aldo kept the distinction as the UFC’s lone Brazilian champion, but more importantly, he’s still the only featherweight champion in company history.

As “Scarface” pulled off his latest title defense, there were fans, fighters, media and other figures from the MMA community following along on Twitter.

Even if high-flying slam dunker Aldo is done, I still favor veteran, low-post fundamental Aldo with his jab, low kicks and takedown defense.

— Jordan Breen (@jordanbreen) October 26, 2014

Dam I am excited……

— Nick Newell (@NotoriousNewell) October 26, 2014

— The Spartan (@EliasTheodorou) October 26, 2014

Aldo comes out firing. Big combos but Mendes doesn't retreat. Straight left from Mendes puts Aldo on his back momentarily…whoa.

— Bleacher Report MMA (@BR_MMA) October 26, 2014

Aldo is throwing big, wild, power hooks and leaving himself wide open for counters. Mendes tagged him with a big shot because of it.

— Luca Fury – FFP (@FurysFightPicks) October 26, 2014

Huge difference so far between this Mendes and the one who was desperate for a takedown in the first fight.

— Ben Fowlkes (@benfowlkesMMA) October 26, 2014

Aldo done playing.

Huge shot from Aldo that came after the bell. #UFC179

— Rob Tatum (@RobTatumMMA) October 26, 2014

Should be a point off Aldo. THat was after the bell at the end

Woowww. Not cool!!

— michael (@bisping) October 26, 2014

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH Aldo just clocked Mendes after the bell and KOd him but didn't count. #mma #ufc

Losing. My. Mind. Right. Now. #UFC179

— Shanda (@UFC_Shanda) October 26, 2014

God. Aldo-Mendes makes up for everything. Even that one time my mom forgot about my birthday. #UFC179

— Yellow Power Ranger (@Sugarhigh5me) October 26, 2014

He is a professional fighter, striking intentionally after the bell should lose you points at bare minimum. Jose cheating is disappointing.

— Bubba Bush (@BubbaBushMMA) October 26, 2014

Regardless of whether Aldo wins this, Mendes is clearly a markedly better fighter and his striking success was not the product of wack comp.

— Jordan Breen (@jordanbreen) October 26, 2014

They're standing and trading. This is technical, tactical and hard. Love the leg checking.

— Josh Gross (@yay_yee) October 26, 2014

Great recovery from Mendes there. A round a piece for me.

— Chamatkar Sandhu (@SandhuMMA) October 26, 2014

20-18 for Aldo after two

— John Pollock (@iamjohnpollock) October 26, 2014

Another eye poke by Mendes. Where's Rogan when you need him? #UFC179

— Steven Grossi (@SteveOGrossi) October 26, 2014

Gotta keep them fingers shut man.

— michael (@bisping) October 26, 2014

Are there rules in MMA?

— CagePotato.com (@cagepotatomma) October 26, 2014

One of my favorite things about MMA commentary is how eye pokes are always accidental even when they happen the same way every time

— Chris Hall (@Chris81203) October 26, 2014

Mendes trained with Jon Jones for the rematch rematch tonight – #Pokemon #UFC179

— The Spartan (@EliasTheodorou) October 26, 2014

In Aldo's layoffs you forget just how fast and hard he throws.

— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) October 26, 2014

Aldo, as expected, is the faster, more technical and more accurate striker so far. Best striker in MMA, IMO. Such a joy when he opens up.

— Luca Fury – FFP (@FurysFightPicks) October 26, 2014

Gawd, those body shots from Aldo. Mendes is no-selling them like a champ, but they're killing him. #UFC179

— Patrick Wyman (@Patrick_Wyman) October 26, 2014

Aldo is hurt!!!!

— Seán Sheehan (@SeanSheehanBA) October 26, 2014

Mendes is hurt!!!

— Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) October 26, 2014

Already my favorite Jose Aldo fight ever.

— Luke Thomas (@SBNLukeThomas) October 26, 2014

Holy smokes!

— Alistair Overeem (@Alistairovereem) October 26, 2014

Best round thus far for Chad Mendes but still have it 30-27 for Aldo after three rounds

— John Pollock (@iamjohnpollock) October 26, 2014

Aldo 1,2 Mendes 3 ? #UFC179

— Derek Brunson (@DerekBrunsonMMA) October 26, 2014

Hell of a fight!!! http://t.co/b3tvLqAXVc

— robbie lawler (@Ruthless_RL) October 26, 2014

— Steven Marrocco (@MMAjunkieSteven) October 26, 2014

— Robert Sargent (@MMARising) October 26, 2014

Aldo Mendes 2 is simply amazing!

— Luke Rockhold (@LukeRockhold) October 26, 2014

Amazing fight wow!!!!!!!!!

— Manny Gamburyan (@MannyGamburyan) October 26, 2014

Aldo's complaining a lot. Mendes is winning the fourth. Half round to go.

— Josh Gross (@yay_yee) October 26, 2014

Aldo bleeding steadily from his left eye.

— Bleacher Report MMA (@BR_MMA) October 26, 2014

Curious as to how @TheNotoriousMMA assesses @josealdojunior and @chadmendes tonight.

— Din Thomas (@DinThomas) October 26, 2014

Aldo is taking round 4 completely off. Throwing almost no strikes, just standing there. Will be Chad's first round win.

— Luca Fury – FFP (@FurysFightPicks) October 26, 2014

3-1 for Aldo on my card going into Round 5

— John Pollock (@iamjohnpollock) October 26, 2014

39-37 Aldo.

— Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) October 26, 2014

I don't care what anyone says . This fight is easily 2-2 going into the 5th. Aldo 1,2 Mendes 3,4 #UFC179

— Derek Brunson (@DerekBrunsonMMA) October 26, 2014

That was Mendes' round, but I'm not sure if you can give him any from 1-3, especially in Brazil. He might need a finish #UFC179

— Cody Gibson (@TheRenegade559) October 26, 2014

Wow! What a fight! Aldo vs Mendes @ufc #UFC179

— Brittney Palmer (@BrittneyPalmer) October 26, 2014

— Dana White (@danawhite) October 26, 2014

Gotta give it to Mendes. I expected him to wilt well before this. He's brought it the entire fight and may just take it.

— Chris Hall (@Chris81203) October 26, 2014

Mendes has done awesome but it won't be enough. Needs a KO. #UFC179

— Steven Grossi (@SteveOGrossi) October 26, 2014

Who's a good black heavyweight now who's gonna beat Cain Valasquez? I was surprised Phil Davis beat Glover. I thought Glover was gonna KO him out in the second round. I've really learned to always bet on black!

Tough to say at this point. They were trying to hype OVEREEM in recent years, but he's been stopped by Bigfoot Silva, Travis Browne, and Ben Rothwell after stopping Lesnar in a few minutes. The division isn't very deep at all compared to others in the UFC. There was a little bit of hype building around Derrick "The Black Beast" Lewis ... but he got stopped by Matt Mitrione in less than a minute earlier in 2014.

The rumour is that Hunt was 300lbs when he accepted the fight, add that to the fact they will be fighting in Mexico which has an altitude of 7,350ft, I really don't like Hunt chances especially if the fight goes more than 1 round.

Agreed, fam'.

He lets himself go between fights ... but at this point in the game (he's in his early-40s) he should just maintain his weight for the final 1 - 3 years or however long he plans to continue fighting. Let yourself go once your career is over. He's 35+ lbs over the 265 limit less than a month out, and his cardio's always been in question, whereas his power's always been his saving grace. The altitude's gonna be a muthafucka. Werdum and his camp have already been situating themselves with the climate for quite some time now. Hunt ... not so much.

Great highlight clip here from the overseas BEYOND THE OCTAGON show on BT Sport. Journalist/media member Gareth A. Davies with the narration. If you like his work ... check out the UFC World podcast ... he has some pretty good guests/interviews. That said ... this clip recaps the card pretty well, and for those who missed the main event ... scroll to the 3:38 MARK as they give you a FEW MINUTES of highlights of Aldo-Mendes II ... good shit!!
