¤¤ Probably the best free security software list in the world ¤¤

I use AVG Free and FreeFixer

http://www.freefixer.com/blog/

Problem is AVG Free didn't do a thing to help me with the AntiVirus System Pro malware I got a couple weeks ago.

This AntiVirus Systerm Pro used a iehelper.dll to put a (lutcsysguard.exe) file in my prefetch. Which started a fake virus scan on every reboot.

FreeFixer helped me find it and deleted the lutcsysguard files. I later moved iehelper.dll from my System32 folder.

Note: I got this virus (and others) thru Adobe reader. I have (that is HAD) old versions of Adobe Reader on my comp.

I would be sitting at my comp when all of a sudden. The Adobe Reader splash page would appear. I wondered, 'How did this happen? I didn't click on Adobe Reader.'

THEN

The viruses would start. Well, I finally put 2 and 2 together. And got rid of Adobe.

Ehh... well my favorite suite is Norton Internet Security 2009 but for a standalone antivirus, AVG or the free version of Avira Antivir is way better than Norton Antivirus and standalone components are better than all in one suites. Saying you pay for quality is ignorant when some of the free apps rank higher than paid solutions in 3rd party antivirus comparisons.

If you care to do the research instead of just spewing clown shit, here's a link:

AntiVirus Effectiveness Comparison (pdf)

The firm that runs those reports is highly respected in the industry and known for being one of the few truly fair evaluations. On the results page (page 7) I see a few free options that scored much higher than Norton. Go put on about 4 polos (pop all the collars), your peach Kanye x Louis Vuitton sneakers, hop in your 2011 Flying Spur, take your shit back to your local big box store aka Best Buy and download AVG or Avira and a good firewall like Comodo. You are welcome.

I downloaded bitdefender 2010 does anyone have the license key for it? Or do I have to keep downloading a new one after every 30 day trial bullshit...

Man this is AWESOME! Thank you so much for this. I am bookmarking this list for future use it is so good. I am currently using NOD 32 Eset Smart Security, and I really do like it, but I have to reset the password every 1-2 months. But it is WAY better than McAffe that we get from the school (resource hog). Thanks again for this!

Props to the OP. I installed Panda Cloud Beta around the same time this thread was created, and I must say it is nice. Rated no.1 by PC World it's not even noticeable using "cloud" based update signatures. It's still in Beta, so there are still a few bugs, but the blog gives you work-around solutions for all of them and they just put out a version for Windows 7. Just today I updated and ran Spybot Search & Malwarebytes for the 1st time in at least 2 months, and they came up empty. Panda Cloud highly recommended.

Noted. Panda came through for me when I got my first ever trojan thanks to Smiley Central back in 2004

Just changed to the Comodo/Avira Combo. Looks good so far. Any other good ones I should consider?

You should be good to go with that unless you just enjoy testing a buncha programs.

Other good programs that would complement what you have are ccleaner, malwarebytes, tuneuputilities 2009, superantispyware pro
