if anybody here thinks Wilt or Russell would avgerage 50 or even 35pts agame in today's NBA you need you head checked. The game is played sooo much differently than it was in the 60's, and you don't need to have seen it then to know this is true.

Yeah, it's a bunch of great big men today.
Such as Dwight Howard and......![]()
You've obviously never seen a Wilt interview.
And@ Kareem reminding niggaz who the all-time scoring leader is.
I disagree. When there were fewer teams, the talent per team was much deeper when Russell and Wilt played. Plus most of them would be finished products that went through a rugged college experience so there were no high schoolers watering it down (nothing against HS NBA players, I'm all for them if someone wants them but more often than not, they're not NBA ready and that included a rookie Kobe Bryant). Wilt and Russell would have dominated during MJ's era but not so much now when the defenses are so handicapped.
That said, Kareem couldn't have said that in a phone call?
Todays NBA is shit. Certainly from a big mans perspective. They both would dominate todays undersized and underskilled big men. Now the 80's and even early 90's would be a different discussion.if anybody here thinks Wilt or Russell would avgerage 50 or even 35pts agame in today's NBA you need you head checked. The game is played sooo much differently than it was in the 60's, and you don't need to have seen it then to know this is true.
The talent was nowhere near anything modern. He was playing against little white boys n shit lol
icbAll i remember is seeing what I thought was tmac daddy due to the eye laziness.
Bullshit...if basketball was equally competitive in those days, how come so many cacs could be stars? The reason why Wilt averaged points is that he played against cacs...If he played now on in the time of MJ, he would barely crack 20 a game, as is the cases with any big man in this day.
The talent was nowhere near anything modern. He was playing against little white boys n shit lol
First...I think it's idiotic to compare eras...
Second...nobody dominated their game during their time like Wilt and Russell.
Last...that column by Kareem,was a sky-hook from the right baseline,10 feet away...nothing but net.
I always think when you have these debates you have to put things in a historical perspective. If ow you measure the greatness of a player is based on rings then of course Russell would be deemed the greatest. It is flawed logic because basketball is a team sport. The "best ever" is easier to define in individual sports.
I once heard Bob Cousy speak about playing in the modern era. e said he couldn't. He said there are few players from his era who could because the abilities of these players have skyrocketed compared to then. They are more athletic. They can do things with the basketball that those of previous eras could only imagine. Today's worst NBA player is still better than most players from the past.
One reason why I liked the best 50 players list is because it was based on eras. When defining team sports you always have to consider the era and that should be the primary consideration because things change, and with our technological advancements in medicine, nutrition, training and the philosophy of the game.
Some have suggested expanding the the court and evening raising the basket because of the athletic ability of the players.
Lastly, when I watch games from other eras even the haloed 80's, there is no comparison in the ability of players today and yesteryear. Some like to use that they were more cerebral, but that is just an excuse that is used when one can't compete which was a common tactic criticizing black athletes that is still common in football but not so much more in basketball.
Point blank, the game is just more difficult than before whether we want to admit it or not, but people like to be nostalgic and romantic about the past instead of being completely honest with themselves especially if it is of a time from their youth.
Bullshit. Current big men don't need true talent. they just need to be big and most never develop their game.
Only ones that would of given Wilt and Russell a hard time would of been Ewing, Hakeem, David Robinson and Tim Duncan. Too many of the others to be named have huge holes in their games.
Lol, not only that, Wilt played in every single minute of the season he averaged 50 ppg. An NBA game is 48 minutes right? he averaged 48.5 minutes per game that season![]()
He is talking about big men who played in an era when there really was not that many big men like it is today. They still would be great players but it would be much tougher for them to dominate night in and night out in the NBA. Jordan dominated a league where some of the best big men played in that era.
WTF is up with Kareem? That nigga been on a hate-a-thon lately.
Dude feels very underrated and under-appreciated.
Frankly, I can't blame him for feeling that way.
Right, because he hasn't won every award and been honored in every way possible since high school.![]()
Incredible, Blunt. Keep 'em coming.
if 7ft1 young Shaq dominated why wouldnt Wilt? Wilt was taller faster and a way better rebounder than Shaq and this era had no answer for Shaq but injury and father time.

Man please I would made it to the NBA in those days...
Well said.Today's NBA is so water downed due to expansion. Back in Wilts era you never had an off night where you were playing the Toronto Raptors. Every team you played was stacked. Wilt would be the best player in the NBA today by far and have no problem putting up 30 ppg 15 rpg 4 bpg with 4 apg. By the way he didn't face little white boys, every night he faced 6'10 and up , hall of fame centers like Bill Russell, Dave Cowens, Kareem, and Nate Thurmond (who is the exact weight and height as Dwight Howard). George Mikan's era was the era of skinny white boys, not Russell and Wilts.
Everything Kareem said was right, we don't give enough credit to guys who played pre-1980's
False. Wilt would dominate todays game and so-called big men. His size, athletic ability and skill are unmatched by ANY center currently playing. Again, the 80's and perhaps early 90's would be a different story, but todays big men are trash.Wilt best in his Era. Would average 22 pts a game now.
Not as many Big men, too many white dudes with not much athletic ability.
You liable to be in the league now and have a no name 8th man guard yam it on you in traffic.
I respect the accomplishments of the brother and all but na no competition. MJ greatest at this point.
