BGOL I need a little advice

So today I'm at work and I get a phone call from the HR department from the Hemsley Parkley Hotel wanting to schedule an interview for tomorrow for their timekeeper(security) position. I have yet to receive my security license though and I know they will ask for it so I called Albany right after to check on the status of it only to find out that I have been denied but will able to appeal that decision to a judge.

So now I'm in a little dilemma: 1. The job where I am currently working is also waiting on for me to get my license and if they found out that I had been denied I'm afraid it could be a wrap for me.

2. Right now I'm debating should I really show up to this interview for tomorrow and risk making an ass out of myself when they find out that I dont have my license yet? or just wing it out and give a good interview and HOPE they consider me for another position if they dont see me fit for the current position they are hiring for.

Let me know what ya think. I'm afraid I might be jobless and it could ruin the progress I've been making so far this year and my goals I have set up for myself.

Show up for the interview. Nothing good can come from not doing so. Then right after you sit down, State that you want to be clear that while you currently don't have your security license You expect it any day now. Then say something along the lines of
"I can respect your decision if you choose to not move forward with the interview. However, I feel I bring many positives to the table that should qualify me for this position in the interim while I'm waiting for the paperwork to go through. I'd love the opportunity to share them with you"

Good advice..thank you man.

why were you denied and do you think you can have the decision reversed on appeal?.

I caught a misdemenor when I was in VA about 2 years ago..and yea they said I will be able to appeal it. I would have to write a letter stating why I disagree with their decision and then after. a couple months I would have to appear in front of a judge.

Does a misdemeanor disqualify you from being licensed or only felonies?

Are misdemeanors case by case or automatic denial?

Usually a 3rd party company that does background checks only report what is present. By that I mean if the misdemeanor was supposed to be erased but was still there they won't reverse. They report what is there not it's accuracy.

If Misdemeanor is automatic denial of license then you should probably seek employment that doesn't require a license while you are still working.

It's easier to find a job if you already have one.

No a misdemeanor shouldn't disqualify you. I know that's working at my job that have worse shit on their records than I do but they still got their license. They probably had to appeal like I'm going to do.

I just spoke to my boss about my license situation and he just told me don't sweat it. He's going to do whatever he can to keep me and if all else fails he will use his connects to placeme in another hotel not involving security.

being a security guard is an honest living. good luck to you greygoose...

EDIT: I will not say what I was going to say. but good luck to you.

thanks followup...say what's on ya mind.

subb'd but yea show up man, dont tell yourself no, let them tell you no

you right I'ma wing it and see what happens..

Very cool, obviously you have earned yourself a good reputation with your employer.

Given that information I would appeal their decision. Make sure you do your homework. Many times those agencies don't really know what they are doing or know the regulations they site.

Good luck

good luck with that job interview

and keep ya head up about that license. in all likelihood the judge will grant it to you, especially if you explain WHY you need it and that you're trying to better yourself, be a positive factor in your community and help your fam

You already have a knowledge of the industry and I'm sure you made connects with people?:dunno:

most states have nonprofits that can help you with rent for a month or two if/ when you get behind to help you avoid eviction.
lookup "new york rental assistance"
