Is 3D Already Dying?

If u wanna watch 3D at home....the glasses are $149 each (no wires) rechargable though.
I also noticed each brand makes thier own shades. Not sure if u can watch a 3D Vizio tv w/ 3D Sony shades. Bestbuy.com has it all.

But for now im cool wit my video shades (the star track lookin joints I use to watch movies on planes and shit).
They come in 3D too. But I havent upgraded yet. Not in a rush to do so either.

What the general public fails to realize are the technicalities of 3D. "AVATAR" set the standard because James Cameron created special camera technology specifically for it. Anyone who thinks that Cameron would have even fell for that post-production shit is straight-up retarded. He had a vision, and executed it perfectly. That's why the 3D in "AVATAR" comes off pretty organic.

Unless studios are willing to put in the money and technology that Cameron did, all you're going to see for the next few years are nothing but SHIT!

As much as I wanted to see "CLASH OF THE TITANS" in IMAX 3D, when I read it was post-production...NOPE. I got a screener form here. And friends of mine that saw it theatrically went to the 2D version instead.

I'm a movie technology buff. So I don't mind spending the money if shit's done right. I love IMAX. I saw "INCEPTION" twice this week at the IMAX Theater on 66th and Broadway which is the REAL IMAX. Not these little IMAX Jr. theaters that are popping up all over the place now.

I don't see 3D as a gimmick as long as studios follow James Cameron's methods. But they're not doing it. And it's becoming one of the major reasons why the true movie-going public is pissed off.

Sorry, that's out of "time waster and not too much money" range and is approaching into "there's so much more I could buy with this money" range.

There's a mental level that most people have before they question the price of something. For me that's $10 when it comes to movies. When you get past that point along with raising the price of things that go with that product then in my mind it goes from a inflation issue to a price gouging issue. At least upgrade the projection to 4k digital, or serve better food than the standard popcorn, hotdogs and coke. You have to provide value because otherwise there's other things I can do that will keep me just as entertained as a movie.

Basically.

For my daughter and I to check out a 3D movie it cost us 17.00 x 2
Small popcorn
2 Bottles of water
2 Hotdogs

Toy Story 3D ended up costing me $50.00 and I didn't see anything worth calling the movie 3D.

We would have been better off putting that movie on the wii after I downloaded it.

No way can I justify dropping that type of money on a gimmick.

tron 3d is probably the only movie i can think of that's going to be in comparison to 'avatar'

They need to stop pumpin out the bullshit that they call 3D. Mask it real from the start not the post production shit, and then come up with 3d that's actually surrounding you,, then i'd be hyped.

My daughter and I straight got ripped off when we say the 3D version of Toy Story 3.

I can't recall one part in that movie where anything seemed to pop out of the screen.

$17.00 for a ticket:angry:

No way I'd pay to have that bullshit in my house.

Co-sign!!!! The damn previews had more 3D then the actually Toy Story 3 movie:angry:

i agree. Just another way for these ghouls to jack up prices. They got me one time with that xd bullshit too. I saw clash of the titans in xd and both me and my son looked at each other like :hmm: "the fuck they charging extra for?"

greedy ghouls tried to ride avatar to the bank and just say everything was in 3d and people got fed up.
c/s.

3D done right aint bad. The bottom line you have options. The tech is only gonna get better with time. If you don't give it time the studios won't invest. 3D brings viewing beyond HD. Video Games are gonna be seen on a whole new level. The movies that will be coming out if shot 3d during production as opposed to post production are gonna be great. Resident Evil 3d was great in regards to 3d. Most of the scenes in 3D were so fluid and believable. It didnt feel CG like Avatar. But both movies in all were great as far as 3D advancement is concerned.

They need to push for super hi vision 4320p cinema's rather than push for 3d because it's a pointless fad. I would rather have crystal clear ultra Hd movies in the cinema than have fuzzy ass 3d

Those were two good 3D movies

I was actually impressed by Resident Evil

But the shit like Saw, Clash Of The Titans, Piranha and a couple of more that I forgot about :smh:

3d is not going to truly work until its Free like HD. HD didn't really take off until ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX started broadcasting everything in HD. I know i didn't really care for it until i saw football in HD at a friends house. If I'm able to use those cheap 3d glasses to watch the NBA on ABC in 3d and it actually works then maybe it will finally take off. I know i went to see Tron last week and my wife and I actually chose to watch it in 2d because of the price difference (($9 vs. $17)

It's because all these companies don't want to invest into shooting in 3D. They try that lame ass post production 3D like with Clash Of The Titans. Also how you going to have a 3D movie and it only has 15 min of 3D?

This is it right here. The post production 3D "process" is killing it. It's a blurry mess that people are not paying for.

I saw Ice Age, Avatar and How To Train Your Dragon in 3D. All were shot from the beginning in 3D and were great to watch. You saw the field depth and thought you could reach out and touch something.

Movies like Clash of the Titans, Last Airbender and Tron: Legacy were shot in 2D and converted later. Studios are killing themselves with this bullshit. No one wants to see a flat, blurry film with weird glasses on.

I give credit to Warner Bros. for realizing they were making a mistake and not releasing the Harry Potter 3D movie.

That's what i'm talking about. AVATAR set the standard and no other companies want to go to that standard. They are cheap as fuck so the put in 10 minutes of 3D and call it 3D. The only movies you should see in 3D are the ones that have the REAL 3D logo.

It's always a gimmick. check out this list of upcoming 3-D movies. Let's pray that most don't come out. This is from Wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_3-D_films

exactly!!! now what movies are being filmed completely in 3d??? that's the question!

Only certain parts were shot in 3D. Certain parts were shot in IMAX. Opening sequence in 2D (although I feel a lot more was in 2D than they let on). The total production was not a true 3D experience.

that was all intentional.

I own a 3D TV and it is the best investment that I have made in a long time.

I can't wait till there are more 3D channels. From cooking shows to football games the shit is awesome. I saw a show with an African safari and the animals damn near chased me out my house, lol.

I have the 60" Mitsubishi.

Also if you have a PS3 there will be a bunch of games coming out in 3d and those look good from what I have seen already.

Also the prices for glasses are dropping like rocks. DONT buy the glasses from the stores. BUY THEM FROM THIS GUY ON EBAY. I have 4 pairs of glasses http://stores.ebay.com/3DTV-CORP.

Anyway I don't think 3d is going anywhere but if it does hell, my tv shows regular HD great so its cool.

Cosign. 3D is the worst reason to jack up the prices at the theatres. Also the least impressive. Matrix didn't have 3D appeal. Still a better movie than most 3D epics.

Besides, that shit belongs in the 1950s. :smh:

Co tripple sign I flat out refuse to put on those stupid ass glasses and watch a 3D movie let alone buy a TV with that bullshit. Only way I'm doing 3D if its on some total recall shit and I can choose a bitch to fuk

Step It Up 3D, amazingly, was worth seeing in 3D. No bullshit. Took my kid to see it and to date is the only movie I saw this year (besides Avatar) worth paying extra for 3D.
