***** TUF 12 ~ Official Thread ~ THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER - SEASON 12 - GSP/KOSCHECK

That was a crazy bodyblow. MMA fighters have horrible cardio so I figured Nam would beat him because he's the only one who trains for endurance like a boxer (namely running).
I'd keep Nam and Brookins away from each other until the finals. I'd rank them as the two best guys left.

Absolutely ... Nam is underrated and has the most experience in the house as far as total fights over the course of his career.

Brookins is the real deal and will probably win the show. Excellent skill set and has some WEC experience (went into the 3rd round with none other than Jose Aldo back in late-2008).

Full props to the homies. Make sure you watch the PETRUZELLI-VEMOLA fight (great finish) as well as KRAUSS-SCANLON (Fight Of the Night). I haven't seen the latter yet. Gonna check it out now.

Rivera-Sakara was cancelled the morning of the event as Rivera woke up and wasn't feeling well (flu-like symptoms and nausea, etc ... from what I've heard/read). Hence them being able to add some 3 fights to the tv card aired (from the prelims) that they added for the Rogers Sportsnet One / Spike viewers yesterday to fill in the timeslot gap space.

:eek::eek::eek:NAM PHAM FOLDED THAT TALL WHITE BOY LIKE A ENVELOPE!!!!! A RIB PUNCH?!?!?!?!

All McKenzie has ever coasted on his entire amateur career = chokin' cats. That's it. Cardio? Other skills / complete skillset? Highly doubtful. He just got lucky in the house by quickly crankin' cats  - and whatever bums he was catchin' on the amateur circuit prior to TUF 12.

I'm liking how these fights are setting up. Great last episode, although I'm curious how things would've turned out had the Bruce Leeroy vs Michael Johnson fight had been 3 rounds. Still, the semi-final matchups look good.

Caceres (Bruce Leroy) looked really good warming up and such, and at the start of the season ... but there are obvious holes in his game. He needs to work on his sprawl and TAKEDOWN DEFENSE. Michael Johnson had his way with him in there and took him down 5 or more times in a matter of 10 minutes (2 five min' rounds). That's where he racked up his points and was able to work a bit of ground & pound following same. Caceres' stand-up is decent and he throws the occasional unorthodox strikes, but it goes back to what Johnson was saying ... all that "spinning backfist"-type stuff doesn't work so great in a fight ... it's more about using all of one's skillset ... the complete game.

Kyle Watson was smart in there against Aaron Wilkinson in their fight preceding Johnson/Caceres. He's an established wrestler (trains with Matt Hughes' camp) and Wilkinson would have eventually beaten him on the feet with his striking game/toughness ... so Watson played it smart/safe and got him to the canvas. Not necessarily an exciting strategy/gameplan ... but the smartest/most effective & now he's in the semifinals.

That's how I figured it would turn out this week. Oh yeah props on the links, not a very interesting card to me but hey its UFC.

Good shit. I got Jonathan and Michael for the win. I think Bruce Leroy's agility threw Michael for a loop, but he still managed to get him with the takedowns.

Yes. Nam-Michael should be interesting. Nam's got the experience, but Mike's got the all-around game and is hungry.

Brookins is the real deal ... definitely has a chance to win it all.

On a side note ... when KYLE WATSON did his weekly call-in segment for MMAJUNKIE this past week on Thursday's morning show, he was calling from Canada (training at Tri-Star with GSP, Kang, Torres, and others). Caller Kindra joked - "hmm, is this some sort of hint that you might have done very well on the show?"

November 18, 2010 Guests Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes, Erik Koch, Kyle Watson and Bart Palaszewski. Faber, Koch and Mendes just came off wins at WEC 52, while Palaszewski is prepping for his fight at WEC 53. Watson came on to talk about his win on the "TUF 12" episode that aired last night.

He faces Brookins in the semi-final. Might he have pulled off the upset? Or just bonded really well with GSP's camp on the show, and invited to come train with them.

Brookins will win this, Johnson has the power but his cardio is his Achilles heel. This has been a problem all season and Brookins is the wrong cat to tire out on.:smh:

My picks were Leeroy, Nam, Johnson, Brookins, and Cody. I'm glad two of them made to the finale. But honestly, I pulled for Nam to win his fight over Johnson (although, hate going against the brother like that). I judged it Round 1 - Johnson, Round 2 - Nam, Round 3 - Either could take it, but I didn't see Johnson doing any damage from the bottom. I leaned the victory towards Nam). Either way, GREAT fight. I think Nam more than earned a contract with that fight.

I'm not gonna sleep on Mike. I had him winning from jump but I didn't see the threat that Brookins is. He might take all of this shit. I'm actually more toward him than I am Mike as to who will win. I'll probably say its a 60% chance he wins this ish. Mike's cardio might hold him back. He's winded by that 3rd round but to his credit he did give it to Nam who has superior cardio. Mike gotta get a strong two 1st rounds if he's gonna win this ish.

Its crazy though. Mike came out of that match with Nam looking like he just entered it. Nam came out looking like he got a beating from 12 men. It was a lot closer than that though. I thought Mike won the 1st round handidly as and he did do the most in the 3rd to win.

My picks were correct. Just going from their first fights I knew it was gonna turn out like this. With some work Johnson could be a force but I think Brookins takes the fight. He is well-rounded and doesn't gas out often.

Indeed. Great points, everyone. Really enjoyed that PHAN/JOHNSON battle. Good takedowns from Michael ... and solid bodyshots delivered from Nam. Solid heart exemplified from both, and you can't ask for much more from 2 athletes putting it all out there.

Should be a fun event at the TUF 12 finale this weekend.

Brookins is a fantastic talent. Really looking forward to watching him in the coming months/years. All-around good skillset.

Turns out LEONARD GARCIA was gonna face TYLER TONER on the card, but they've brought in NAM PHAN to replace Toner. So Nam's moving his game back to 145lbs where he's fought before. Should be an exciting fight, as I'm sure we've all enjoyed watching GARCIA/JUNG and GARCIA/HOMINICK. Leonard's never dull out there. Nam's got good experience in the game. Hopefully it's a fun battle.

Props on the drop and good call on Brookins. You and another cat had him in sight since the beginning.:yes::yes:

Thanks, Lenny. Yes - he always seemed well-rounded from jump. I had my eye on Nam Phan as well. Props to my little brother. He put MICHAEL J' and JONATHAN B's names in my head way back in mid-October. He told me to watch out for those 2 in particular. I gave him props by email last night on same as he'd emailed me asking what I thought of both events.

Absolutely ... I'm happy for them. They've had some shittier cards for CBS and Showtime the past year, plus the whole incident with Mayhem Miller getting jumped by Cesar Gracie's crew after acting a fool back in April or so  - and the cards that went to decision with Miller/Shields and Shields/Henderson, etc. Nice to see them close out the year (with all the haters talking shit about them being a distant #2 from the UFC) and fuckin' put on a slammin' show, meanwhile the bulk of the UFC's card went to decision (especially the MAIN CARD - lol) :D:lol:

Enjoy the card, everyone. Should be a great battle. The first encounter was exciting back in 2007, and the hometown support is always strong for GSP. They drew 20 - 21,000 in April 2008 for the rematch with Serra, and this one is expecting 22 - 23,000 tomorrow night. Koscheck's a solid heel, and there's been good build-up with the TUF 12 season of coaching, and recent Countdown episode (per norm). Remember - SPIKE won't be airing the prelims tomorrow night, as they already have their annual VGA (Video Game Awards) booked, so to catch some of the bouts just prior to the main card's commencement ... head on over to http://www.ufc.com tomorrow night if you're at home. Otherwise ... enjoy the battles at home on PPV, or at the bar/pub/lounge/etc. Good times ...

does anyone have the COMPLETE post-fight interviews (in the ring, not at the presser) from UFC 113?

specifically, i'd like to hear the koscheck comments about the knee-while-downed, and of course the post-fight sucker punch by paul daley.

Only thing is Brookins has to work on his stand up and MJ on his cardio. They both will be toast when they come across more experienced pros without solving these issues.

Don't know if we have it. Try searching the board for UFC 113 though.

True indeed. Brookins is very well-rounded ... his stand-up and keeping his hands up/chin tucked = very important.

Michael Johnson ... for sure. He's got the heart and athleticism. Just needs that cardio' so he doesn't gas out in the 1st round/early 2nd by going ALL OUT from jump.

Fight cardio and regular workout cardio are apparently two different things. I train..and I can run for miles..do that P90X bullshit..eliptical..low weight high rep weights etc but when I get to sparring and those big country white boys sit on my chest..I'm ready to go home and catch a movie with some hot wings and sweet potato fries like fuck it I don't need this shit. And when I see a great athelete like Johnson doing all those crazy ass exercises and actually has the time I don't have and trainers to time him etc..then gets in the fight and it looks like that shit was a waste of time it pisses me off. But sometimes I think everybody is trying to be GSP and over strategizes shit. There was a point in the first round he should have went batshit on Brookins and threw the clean, crisp striking out the window..especially if you are gonna end up tired and losing anyway.

I agree, bro. It's a combination of everything. The excitement / build-up / nerves / energy / stress / crowd / anticipation / etc. Like when you're psyched and ready to perform in a game, and go out there and UNDERwhelm/UNDERperform. Like when Shane Carwin went in there and put a number on Lesnar back in July. He had an excellent first round and really put it all on the line, and then later said the reason he was so gassed in the 2nd was due to "lactic acidosis". But as doctors have pointed out - that doesn't set in until later on ... possibly even hours later while in the locker room / at the hospital / at the hotel. It's moreso an "ENERGY DUMP" that affected Carwin, and perhaps the same for Johnson against Brookins. He was really doin' his thing the first 5 minutes, but then Brookins took over in minutes 6 - 15 (even after taking alot of shots in the first 1/3rd of the bout).

Yeah, but now that you've given me that refresher coarse..I'm thinking about it. All the times I watch the countdown shows and everything and see these guys talking about the shit they are working on. And you see them doing everything from swinging sledgehammers to pushing cars down the street..then come fight time all that shit is out the window..they are gassed by the second round and can't get from under a regular human being. Looking at those fights you would think that at least one dude would just get the fuck back up and K.O. GSP. Brock is a fucking monster and college national champion but Cain got right back up after that take down and proceeded to stomp a mud hole in him and walk it dry. Alves got from under GSP but was so damn tired all he could do was throw a weak jab and get taken down again. I'm starting to think GSP knows paralyzing pressure points or some shit like that because he takes the fight right out of all these muthafuckas except Hardy..but he doesn't know shit about wrestling so he was tailor made for GSP.

That totally made the roadtrip, bro. The whole crowd was STANDING (nearly 15,000) from their walk-ins through the bout. Shit was dope. Great experience.

I guess dudes just can't get outside of their own heads..I usually rise to the occasion and being nervous makes me perform better. I just don't have the time to find out what I can really do like a lot of these guys. I think Carwin felt that belt going around his waste when he had Brock in the fetal possition before the job was done...that shit can mess up your concentration and he probably was in locker room mode too early and that's a real energy dump..and a dumb move. He really should have put 90 percent of those shots to Brocks body and maybe taken some of his energy. As someone pointed out Brock wasn't knocked out by that botched shooting star press..aint no way a fist is gonna put him to sleep.
