yea because we no longer need engineers, teachers, lawyers, doctors, accountants...

it all depends on the individual, the career choice, the circumstance. saying college is no longer a good investment as a blanket statement is pretty dumb though.

C/S.

Niggs who say college is bullshit are the niggas who majored bullshit mickey mouse courses like "Natural Disasters" n shit. Then they wonder why the couldn't find any jobs after graduation. Then the turn around talkin about "awwww nigga, college ain't shit nigga...". Now when I used to work in the engineering department, I could count on one hand how many African Americans I saw. Math and science is just to hard for the typical Black these days, although that field will guarantee a position and excellent pay after graduation.

shut the fuck up with that untrue self hating shit

Now THAT is a stupid BLANKET stement

if you go to college with a specific purpose and goal it works for you. if you go there bullshitting you end up with bullshit.
college is still the easiest and most viable way to ensure you have a bright future.
to say college is stupid...is stupid itself

Nope. It's an observation. THERE WERE LITERALLY LESS THAN 5 AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT.

Were there more Blacks? YES. But not from the states.

Be a blind ass clown all you want, but the truth is that African Americans in general DO NOT place a premium on education. That's just the way it is. I've witnessed NIGGAS in the forum rip Neil Degrasse Tyson to shreds. But I'm the self hater.

there's a method to getting the most out of college. 10 minutes of googling would shed light on it. i even dropped some of the more important steps earlier in this thread.

i wouldnt invest $100k in something without knowing how to get the best return on it. alot of people do. whats her profession? is your sis wiling to move? is she willing to do something for less than she thinks she should make? is she willing to volunteer part time?

This statement above ^ bothers me.

"NOT HAVING A PLAN" is unwise, not necessarily college. I graduated from a top 25 University.

There were students there who went to school WITH NO PLAN, graduated and 3 years later are retail store managers. That says more about the individual, than the value of a formal education.

How is school in most cases, not a wise investment? Every study shows that over a lifetime college grads earn more than those whom do not have a degree. Sure the job market TODAY may be a little rough... but the unemployment rate for college grads is 5% while 10% for everyone else.

Oh and your sister that has a GRADUATE DEGREE and no job after 3 years. That tells me that she wasn't 100% dedicated to entering the WORKFORCE. I know to many folks that have a grad degree that think they are OWED a six-figure job coming out.:smh:

I have an MBA, It took me a 18 months to "find" the REAL CAREER JOB that required an MBA. But I was gainfully employed for those 18 months. I just had to work entry level "temp" gigs for $12/hr until I was able to get on with a real gig that was willing to hire me. I'm surprised that in all the 50 states even, that she can't find a JOB REMOTELY IN HER FIELD.

Why doesn't she go overseas too? It appears that she's holding herself back by her own doing. Also, no one overseas will hire a non graduate to a well paying job. That only happens in the U.S.

I agree with everything you said here. Especially the part about not having a plan and "employment is more about who you are vs. what degree you have". The sad thing is black folks with a degree are still so damn "less likely" to get hired in the office position vs. their white contemporaries...it's a fucking shame.

If you don't want to go to college you need a plan and you need to execute that plan.

For those who want to know how I earn money:

1: Computer Repair Storefront
2: Contract work for two local school systems (currently replacing the old, antiquated PBX with Asterisk)
3: Linux Technical Writer
4: Receives stipend as Linux Kernel Developer (Embedded/Atheros 9132)
5: Optimizing/Admin Dedicated Servers (had BGOL running like a champ at one time)
6: Youtube Partner Progam (not much, however I was surprised they contacted me)

I'm not rich by a long shot, but I do okay. I occasionally work more than 8 hours four times a week. However, it's because I want to. I love doing what I do. I actually don't even consider it work. I get paid for my hobby.

You sound very successful, regardless of money.

Sounds like my homey who has an economics degree but can't tell you what he wants to do. Dude been out of school 4 years with no job and talking about what Obama can do for him.

No degree- some college, couldn't afford to finish. Started doing collections, now own a billing and collections company. No student loans. Currently I have multiple real estate holdings, LA, Dallas, and Chicago. Annual income shade under 200k. I don't discount an education but I can say I learned more from my first collections employer than I ever did in college, relative to business and debt. Most people that are college educated are/or hold a follower's mentality that unfortunately prohibits them from attaining their full potential. That said, I did insist that my daughter attend college- Big ten school at that. For those that believe college is the end all, my primary question is who are you learning from and what exactly do they "teach" you. The system of education in America for black youth is seriously biased with respect to the truth i.e., real history, real fiscal acumen and real individualism. For example, would the robber barons of the world really teach anyone but their own how to corner their markets?

I do have one final point, historically, college was a means by which to keep younger "workers" out of the work force for a certain period of time for those "workers" to be absorbed into the work force. Just my .02

That's just regular old American complacency.

math and science are heavily dependent on preparation. yeah some people can work hard and figure it out but honestly most people who go that way have parents who steered them into it. most black parents lack that background. but shit I know several black scientists. and not all of 'em are african/carib either

that PhD doesn't guarantee shit moneywise either. I was talking to this phd chick who is a researcher, makes like 35K :hmm:

Degree is just a piece a paper.

Also College are designed to prepare you to be a employee. and i always tell my friends that you will never get rich just being a employee.

Ownership is everything and you have to think like a hustler I make over $200,000 and i only have a high school diploma because im self employed and invest in myself.

Just listen to this billionaire to break it down for you slow mother fuckers.

i love Robert Kiyosaki posts.
Why? Because it shows how stupid the public is. There will be less competition for my kids in the future for top jobs in banking, medical, and legal fields.

Since this is the holiday season, I will be generous and drop you REAL knowledge. Although some of the stats are outdated, by and large, this webpage should adequately expose Kiyosaki for the salesman he is. You thought Tariq Nashid was a good salesman? Kiyosaki tops him.

http://www.johntreed.com/Kiyosaki.html

So since all you niggas are successful business men with no degrees, what are you doing and what do you make.

I am an entrepreneur, i dropped out of high school at about 18 years old. I just turned 21 not to long ago and did ventures such as lawn mower business, gutter and window cleaning business ( thank you BGOL for this one!),affiliate marketing, building myspace layouts ( 14-15 years old ) and i put some money in stocks. I would put my total net worth estimate around 20k a year since i was 16. I am now developing an internet business right now.

Whats ironic is the 2 individuals( Tariq Nasheed & Robert Kiyosaki) you named were influential for my reasoning of dropping out, i have my gratitude to give them in the future.:yes:

Seems like only a few mofos are interested in this shit. PM me. All the info I'll drop is FREE and TRANSPARENT and you can even work along so you know how the fuck things are going and you can set up your shit along mine so I can help you through as you learn the ropes. Ninjas Don't Sleep!

I don't know, bruh. It seems only a handful are interested and it might not be worth the time and bother to set shit up and only a few check in and then drop out like last time.:smh::smh::smh: I posted hustle threads before I just hope this shit doesn't suffer the same fate. PM me! If there's ENOUGH mothefuckers truly interested in FREE INFO and a step by step seminar on BGOL, I'll fucking do it. But I ain't gonna go out of my way just for the 3 dudes who showed half interst :hmm:

You dropped out of school simply because of some general shit you learned from Kiyosaki?:lol:

Big props for having your income spread from several different sources.:yes::yes::yes::yes:

I agree, College isn't for everyone, but it's damn sure for most (Black folks especially). Fact is, while some do very VERY well on drive, determination, and pure hustle, most brothers and sisters don't stand a chance without that paper; just look around. While it isn't for everyone, many just say it's not for them to justify why they haven't gone and yet they still have no plan. Fast forward several years later and they still have no plan, yet they won't do anything about it. I have friends that have done well for themselves without a degree, even a few doing very well without a H.S. diploma, but those in such situations are only there because they've got exceptional drive + a plan and in most cases they knew someone who put them on to an opportunity or knowledge.

As many in this post have stated, a degree gives the vast majority with it choices, better odds for stability, and long-term sustainability. It does not, however, come with a guarantee. Hell, most brothers and sisters need to improve their odds for feeding their seeds and providing a decent life by any means necessary. College provides most with an opportunity to do just that.

To those tripping over investing a small $50k - $100k into educating yourself, what the hell else is more important? If you can't figure it out, get a job (or 2) and take out a small loan and knock it out. If you have that drive, determination, and hustle, odds are you can parlay that modest investment into opening doors based off of what you know and more importantly, who you know and/or who you met during those 4 (+) years. Couple that network with your hustle and blow the doors off the frame. This my friends is a helluva way to make some REAL money, what many of us have never seen as a result of that nominal investment. At the very least, if you just try, you'll be okay under normal circumstances. Life's all about playing the odds.

Nonetheless, if you're part of that <1% who can get it done without, by all means, hustle hard. As for the rest of us, improve your odds. Invest in self. Get your network on, and come out and get your money on.

If you take this route, by the time you're ready to start your own business and got a trump tight plan, you could have more than enough bankrolled to fund it along with a network to pool from (ideas and/or investments if need be). I work with a few millionaires in their 30's who have never owned their own business (it is possible) - just from working for the man (401K + options + taking home $200K+ for multiple years and investing appropriately). It may not be quite as fulfilling as doing your own thing, but it damn sure feels good until the plan/opportunity hits you. While Corporate America has several drawbacks and challenges, I wish there were more of us out here pimpin' this shit.

Just my opinion.

Disclaimer - paid my way through undergrad - Worked odd jobs (baggage at the airport, construction, assembly line, etc. + mad loans). Got a scholarship for my MS off the strength of undergrad grades. Got a job and gamed them crakas into paying my way through an MBA. I'm just a nigga from the hood with all the odds imaginable against me.

Four pages and about three actual occupations and businesses. Niggaz full of shit.

I told you, these niggas on BGOL are full of shit. Notice the ones who answered honestly are making 30k. I mean cmon son. Not sure why Black men especially are so obsessed with "Hustling" outside of education. Niggas will stay up 24 hours to figure out how to start some silly ass business but can't stay up to study for a test. Fuck outta here.
