Sanyo 50" Class Plasma 720p 498$

What's the refresh rate?
If want to action movies, video gaming or live sports to come out right - make sure the rate is 90mhz or above BUT with a setting to turn it back down to 60 or so for regular T/V or elsse evrything will have a very overly enhanced, diarama effect.

 Damn I know never to get advice about TV's on BGOL. Cats don't know shit but they act like they do.

Man if you actually read some of the bullshit people post on here? You can't get advice or opinions on shit because its more than likely full of shit. And their confidence...these niggas say bullshit with such confidence.

Do the opposite of what he said. Plasma and lCDs have a longer life than the old box tvs so 20 years from now that shit will be working but not in use. Plasma picture quality shits on LCD. A 720p plasma is better than a 1080p LCD. LCD have motion problems that's why they market that refresh rate.

Dude, do your own research. I personally would NEVER buy a Plasma tv, HORRIBLE LIFESPAN. If you are an avid TV watcher do yourself a favor and NOT buy a Plasma. People that say you can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p obviously have never seen 1080p. You can shop around and get a better deal, just because it's a black friday deal doesn't mean it's a good one. I purchased a 40" Sharp 120mHz LCD for $650 a year ago and the TV is still selling for $850 now. Google online stores, 6ave.com is a good one, beachcamera.com is also a good one. But for the love of everything holy PLEASE do yourself a favor and not buy a SANYO tv. There can barely get their cell phones right. If you really take pride in your purchases and don't just get a big screen tv for the sake of telling people you have a big screen stick with brands that last and are known for great quality, SHARP, SAMSUNG, some SONY's and LG and a few PANASONICS.

Plasma has the equivalent of LCD/LED in lifespan as a technology, though there is variation among brands and models.

Panasonic: States in new specifications that new plasma TVs and monitors are good to 100,000 to half life.

Sony: Now out of the plasma market. Does not list a figure for LCD lineup.

Samsung: Lists 100,000 hours for plasma lineup.

LG: States 100,000 hours for both plasma and LCD.

Sharp LCD panels: States 100,000 hour life.

I hate these kinda threads cause everybody
wants to think that their TV is the best.
Imma keep this simple and factual

Plasmas give the best picture
Best Contrast Ratio (NO LCD or LED is higher)
Most Colors
Fastest Refresh Rate (No LCD or LED is Faster)

Negatives
Power Consumption (Newer ones Tend to rate better here)
Tend to Get Hot

720p Debate

- The Human Eye CANNOT tell the difference
between a 1020 & 720 from more than 5 Feet
it's just not possible. Why would you sit closer than
5 Feet when You have a 42 inch or bigger TV?
If you have a 50 Inch it changes to 7 Feet

From a Sanyo Plasma TV owner:

buyer beware this tv is great but know that you get what you pay for. this tv has been marred by issues of plasma problems, leaking and low grade plasma problems. dont get me wrong i have 2 of these tvs. one for the kids and one for the office. be aware that even with the extended coverage plan this tv isnt covered under onsite repair which means that you have to ship this 207lb beast out for repair and pay the overhead ins . and shipping costs yourself. this tv uses level 2 grade plasma so it has to heat up before the picture looks clean and clear, and free of ghosting and color issues, granted these issues may not be present immediately but they will arise eventually and if you didnt invest in the extended coverage this will cost you. dont get me wrong these tvs are a bargain but your sacrifice will be reliability and longevity of the unit. if your tv gets the heat up issue you will see ghosting and the green and red scale way be over present and could destroy you enjoyment of the unit. one of my tvs has had no problems and the other has been in for repair several times and still has low grade plasma issues. not buyer beware but buyer be aware this could be a steal or a trap. as a final note i am a service tech and sales rep with high end home theaters. i would suggest sacrifice the sharpness and contrast of the plasma and invest the extra hundred or so and get a 1080p lcd with much less issues and and far less expensive repairs. think before you buy.

There is some horrendous advice being given in here. Some of you guys are so fraudulent and ignorant until its funny.

Below are two of the more on point and accurate statements in this thread. Hopefully this info below isnt lost among the tons of bullshit being spouted off in here.

I know a fair bit about televisions and electronics.

This is a great deal for the MONEY. Can you buy a BETTER television? Absolutely! but it will cost you about 2x as much for someting that is NOTICEABLY better.

Don't listen to "most" of these guys posting about 720P vs. 1080P... they do not know what they are talking about.

720P is going to "suffice" for overwhelming majority of content that you will be watching.

Regular network HD either via cable or satellite programming is in 720P or 1080i. The Sanyo TV will be able to show you this.

The ONLY content that is readily available in 1080P are:
  • Blu Ray Movies
  • "some" pay per view movies on Direct Tv.

Really unless you have a TRAINED eye and (2) television sets side-by-side for comparison. You will not be able to tell the difference between 720P vs. 1080P

So for the $MONEY$ the Sanyo is a good set.

All the above.

I say get it. Most TV/Cable stations only broadcast in 720p anyways. Unless you have Blu Ray and need the extra numbers to boost your ego, this set will be fine. It's amazing how far these sets have fallen as far as price. We bought a 50 inch Panasonic Viera Plasma 1080p last year at $999 and now the same set is at 699 to 799. I love the black levels on a Plasma set when compared to an LCD. If you're into movies and shit, Plasma is the way to go.

misinformation continues :smh:

How much TV do you watch where you think that it would affect your power bill that much

All I keep hearing that turns me off from plasma is the shelf life is horrible. That keeps me from buying one.

That was years ago, it's equal to plasma now.

The people you hear that from, just like in this thread go by hearsay instead of updating their knowledge bank.

No it's not, most won't be able to tell the difference.

Oh you can tell the difference I just bought that 720p at walmart for $678.hook up my ps3 hdmi cords looks nice, was playing black ops then went to my boy crib and he had a 1080p hook up to his ps3 I was like DAMN it's a big difference!

Sanyo 50" Class Plasma 720p 600Hz HDTV, DP50710
498$ Walmart (Black Friday) Deal or no deal? I've been shopping around for a bigger flat screen, but something seems to good to be true about this one. Can't really beat it for the price though...

OK did some looking.

If you want a WORTHWHILE better television.

For the $Money$ I would get this:

Panasonic 50" 1080P televsion for $899http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panason...HDTV/9786054.p?id=1218174065119&skuId=9786054

So like I said, depends on how much you want to spend??? for under $500 the Sanyo is a good deal.

If you're going to buy a plasma TV, buy a Panasonic. Otherwise buy a LCD or LED TV. I was shopping for plasmas last month and I found out that the 600mhz does not refer to the refresh rate as it does in an LCD tv. Also, the plasma tvs produce good color but they are dimmer than lcd/led tvs. Plasmas also produce a lot of heat and they consume more electric. Go to HHGreg and go to the plasma section and you'll feel the heat.

Bullshit dumbass  :smh: :hmm:

You shouldn't have such a strong response when thorough knowledge of a this subject escapes you.

Video games are a different story.

Well if he was playing a 1080p movie yeah. But black ops does not run in true 1080p.

I can attest to this. Even in the store when I was about to buy my TV's last Black Friday, I was telling myself plasma looks better, but the store guys were running down their list of why LCD is better. Now I've had a year to analyze them and my 42" Samsung plasma has a better picture than my 52" 1080p Sharp Aquos LCD. The only LCD that looked better than a plasma was the Sony Bravia at the time. I should've cop that LCD instead of saving a couple hundred.

I have a plasma Panasonic and a Vizio lcd. Both are 50' and share good pictures. They are both a year or so old.

I have watched HD media on both and played on my x360 with both screens.

Hands down the plasma is better hands down. It is so good, there is no remote comparison. The color and depth is just amazing. Especially when you play those 720 movies or do any kind of gaming. I have even swapped out the plasma from my living room with the LCD and even my quests noticed a difference. Don't get me wrong, LCD's are good TV's but they are not remotely better than a plasma.

Anyone who says any different either only has a LCD and is trying to justify their poor choice or just does not know any better. The biggest grip is this "life" thing. Seriously, people read and educate yourself. Do you all realize that statistically most of these modern day appliances have a two year life expectancy?

Not only that, but more than likely something new and more interesting will be available then. I know I will want to upgrade. The "life" thing is just stupid, unless you have someone who is not planning on buying another TV for five(5+) years and refuses to buy a extended warranty.

Plasma is better hands down, LCD is a step down. That is a fact.

Ok I didn't know,so you saying if it's regular tv they the same?Overall it's good tv does me just fine.BTW had my old one on the wall for 4 years I guess over time it fell off the wall.BOOM!! glass everywhere, had to cop this one right quick leaving that shit on the stand this time. Was going to wait to black Friday, but time is money and they probably sell out quick.

So, LCDs are better in your opinion.

my friend has one and his tv stays on all the time plus he has an older model so you might be right...one thing i am curious about is why are the prices of plasma tv's dropping so much??? everytime i look around they seem to be $300 to $500 less than the original price?
