498$ Walmart (Black Friday) Deal or no deal? I've been shopping around for a bigger flat screen, but something seems to good to be true about this one. Can't really beat it for the price though...

Most Plasma's don't come in 1080p, I don't know why. But I notice they have a refresh rate 2x, often 3x, better than standerd LCD's. For example a cheap LCD will have 60hz, a mid-grade 120hz, and a top of the line will have a refresh rate of 240hz. Most Plasmas start with refresh rates of 600hz: I wonder if that's why they are usually only 720p?

No, 720 isn't that bad, but 50" is just cross the threshold for ratio of resolution to screen size. I think 42" might be the proverbial line in the sand for 720p res. In this case, you would probably be better off getting a smaller set for close to the same money as it may be obvious that this set's large screen size needs to be running a higher resolution, especially if you're going to be sitting close to it (less than 7-8 feet). :dunno:

LED-Backlit are the new big thing. They cost about $200-$400 more than the regular HDTV's but if you want the best possible picture available than it may be worth it.

i should've waited.....i got the same Sanyo 50in plasma from Walmart last month for $648. coulda saved an extra 200. the quality on that shit is mad nice.

Customer reviews of the 50" Sanyo had 2 complaints in common.1 Tv died right after warranty expired.2 Sanyo customer service blows.

Just had to replace a Plasma that was about 4 years old.

Got a Sony Bravia LCD and the picture is so much better.

Great deal, just make sure to buy the entended warranty.

Don't waste your money on plasma. Their lifespan is too short.

 Damn I know never to get advice about TV's on BGOL. Cats don't know shit but they act like they do.

Most company's lie about the specifications of the 150,000:`1 contrast ratio and all that shit. Liess!!! it doesn't matter. Just look at the screen and look at the grass and compare it to the next tv. If the grass looks crisp then go with it, if the grass look like a big green blob with football players running on it then :smh:

Also look at the edge of the outline of people. If it looks squarish dont get it. You want the outline of someone's body to be crisp and smooth.

I have to c/s. I'm anything but an authority on this subject, but I do know that there's some horrible advice being given in this thread. :smh:

 Even though it's 720, for $500 that's a good deal.

I had a 20 inch Sanyo in the kitchen I had gotten from Walmart. It was ok, but I have a LG one now there that I prefer.

I would put this in my bedroom.

Plasma is garbage.1080 LCD! Longer life less problems

Do the opposite of what he said. Plasma and lCDs have a longer life than the old box tvs so 20 years from now that shit will be working but not in use. Plasma picture quality shits on LCD. A 720p plasma is better than a 1080p LCD. LCD have motion problems that's why they market that refresh rate.

I know a fair bit about televisions and electronics.

This is a great deal for the MONEY. Can you buy a BETTER television? Absolutely! but it will cost you about 2x as much for someting that is NOTICEABLY better.

Don't listen to "most" of these guys posting about 720P vs. 1080P... they do not know what they are talking about.

720P is going to "suffice" for overwhelming majority of content that you will be watching.

Regular network HD either via cable or satellite programming is in 720P or 1080i. The Sanyo TV will be able to show you this.

The ONLY content that is readily available in 1080P are:
  • Blu Ray Movies
  • "some" pay per view movies on Direct Tv.

Really unless you have a TRAINED eye and (2) television sets side-by-side for comparison. You will not be able to tell the difference between 720P vs. 1080P

So for the $MONEY$ the Sanyo is a good set.
