The entrepreneur on-going thread...

Love this thread! Got another question...

How can you legally use your car as a cab without working for a cab company? Also can it be done if you have a police record?
My knucklehead nephew got into some bullshit trouble with some hoodlums and now can't land a decent job. Good kid, but ignorant when his friends are around.

Thanx in advance!

How to Start a Cab Company

nstructions
things you'll need:
Vehicle
License
Taxi accessories

step 1

Purchase a vehicle suitable for using as a taxi cab. A fuel-efficient vehicle will help improve your bottom line, but the vehicle must have a comfortable rear seat and enough cargo space to carry passenger luggage. Purchasing new or used is a personal decision. Buying a used vehicle will save you money on the initial purchase cost, but may cost you more in maintenance.

Step 2

Visit your local licensing agency to apply for any licenses needed to operate a cab in your area. Regulations and requirements will vary from state-to-state. At minimum, you will need automobile insurance for business purposes. Some states will require a special driver's license to operate a cab.

Step 3

Modify your vehicle for taxi cab use. Taxi cabs are traditionally yellow, but painting the vehicle is optional. Make sure it is recognizable as a taxi cab. You need decals on the sides with the name of your taxi business and a telephone number. The most simple way to set up a cab hot-line is to use a cell phone. Larger cab companies have dispatchers who answer the phone and relay information to the cabs; this is unnecessary when first starting out. Other major modifications needed are a cab meter and a top light (roof of vehicle). Cab meters will help you record mileage for trips and calculate fares. Cab meters start out at about $200. A partition to divide the front and rear seat is recommended for safety. Wireless credit card terminals are also available, adding the ability to accept credit or debit cards for fare payment.

Step 4

Advertise your business and make your name known among those needing frequent cab rides. You may have to operate your cab for long hours while you get your business of the ground. As the business grows, you can hire drivers and purchase more cabs for your business.

Where is the cleaning business ?

Or did I just miss it

FANTASTIC THREAD

How to Start a Cleaning Business

Step 1

Determine what type of cleaning service you wish to provide. It could be residential house cleaning, window cleaning, carpet cleaning, commercial building cleaning or a Laundromat, for example.

Step 2

Explore the business opportunities that can be offered in the sector of your choice. Understand the market trends, local competitors, current rates, profit margin and assess your investment options.

Step 3

Decide whether you want your cleaning business to be a part-time or a full time business. You will need to put in extra effort if this is your primary source of income.

Step 4

Verify your financial resources. Check all bank accounts, deposits, shares or any other sources of income and get a fair insight about your financial status. This will give you an idea of your investment capacity at the moment.

Step 5

Understand that you can start with minimal investment. This type of business does not demand heavy investment in equipment, instructional courses, maintenance and extravagant set ups. You can actually start the operation from home (or hire a small office, if you can) with a few basic cleaning supplies like brooms, mops, cleaning solutions and vacuum cleaners. You may also need a vehicle to commute workers and materials to the cleaning destination. If you are planning on starting a Laundromat, you may want to rent a bigger area to store washing machines and dryers as well as need more investment to purchase the equipment.

Step 6

Determine the legal formalities that you need to comply with before starting the business. You may need documents such as a license or insurance from the government or your local authorities.

Step 7

Hire and train the cleaning staff. The number of them depends on your budget and your requirement. You can hire more employees when the business expands.

Step 8

Start with just one type of service such as residential cleaning or carpet cleaning. Do not offer a range of services unless you have the capability and resources. You can expand with related services later.

Step 9

Advertise your name and the service. You can place ads in local newspapers, circulate pamphlets in the neighborhood, hand out business cards, ask your friends and family to spread the word and put up notices at public places.

Step 10

Ensure that you offer the best cleaning services. Get in touch with your customers, understand their likes and dislikes, make it a point to get their feedback regarding your work and also attend to their complaints.

Finger, you got anything on carpet cleaning?

How to Start a Carpet Cleaning Business

step 1

Choose a carpet cleaning business niche. In other words, consider the type of clients you want. Some carpet cleaners only accept commercial clients, where as other businesses only work with residential customers. Then again, some businesses aren't picky and service both types of clients.

step 2

Buy a franchise or start your own business. Franchises are ideal because they provide all the tools you need to succeed. Unfortunately, carpet cleaning franchises are costly. And if you don't have the available cash, it's best to start small and open your own business.

step 3

Apply for a business license. With any new start-up business, you'll need a license. Getting a business license is easy. Visit your local city hall, register the business name and pay a license fee.

step 4

Decide how to pay the start-up expenses. Every business has a start-up cost, whether expensive or cheap. There are several ways to find money for a carpet cleaning business. You can apply for a business loan, in which you'll need good credit and a business plan. Another option is to use your personal savings or a business credit card.

step 5

Purchase equipment and supplies. Before you can open your business, you need cleaning supplies and machines. Research different distributors. Look for shampoos, cleaning machines and dryers. Since many people are "going green," consider environmentally friendly products.

step6

Hire a cleaning crew. Depending on how large you plan to grow the business, you may need to hire employees. Hire one or two helpers until the business grows, and then expand your staff as needed.

step7

Advertise the carpet cleaning business. This is a competitive field. To attract customers you need an effective marketing campaign. To keep customers, you must offer great service.

I just peeped that this info is from ehow.com. Folks can go there if they need the info before finger can respond.

finger do u have anything on how to get started owning a franchised restaurant (ie mickey d's)?

How to Buy a Restaurant Franchise

step 1

Decide which type of restaurant franchise you will buy. Search classified advertisements and franchise directories for information on restaurant franchise opportunities in the geographical area of your choice. Evaluate the initial costs and other factors, in order to select a few franchises that you are interested in purchasing

step 2

Request a franchise application. Review all the documents provided by the franchisor, including financial statements. Ask for details about the company training and support program.

step 3

Talk to current franchisees. Talking to someone who is already a franchisor for the restaurant chain will provide vital information. Ask about day-to-day business activities, unexpected problems with their franchise and ease of dealing with franchisor. Question if their profits have met or exceeded their expectations.

step 4

Evaluate the location and market of your proposed restaurant franchise. How much competition of similar restaurants is in the area? Have recent changes occurred in the community which may cause a decrease in customers?

step 5

Ask franchisor about financing. Many franchisors will finance the initial costs. Also ask about how much working capital you will need to operate the business outside the start-up costs.

step 6

Have your attorney review the franchise agreement. Make amendments to the agreement, if necessary.

step 7

Sign the agreement and begin business. Hire qualified employees and maintain high standards in all your business dealings.

How to Start a Catering Truck Business

Step 1

Get permits and licenses.

Starting a catering truck business will require you to obtain all the usual local business licenses, but you will need to make sure you meet the requirements of a food business as well. The requirements will differ according to location but this usually involved working with the department of health.

Step 2

Obtain a catering truck or other vehicle.

Your business will be run out of this truck rather than a storefront or other retail location so the selection and purchase of a catering truck is an important step. You can buy a truck that is already designed to be a catering truck or you can retrofit a truck for this purpose. The most economical way to go about this is to look for a used catering truck rather than buying new.

Step 3

Plan a menu.

A catering truck menu should be very simple and straightforward. You are working with customers who are usually on their lunch hour and have a limited amount of time. They want tasty food and they want it quick so keep these requirements in mind. Once you have opened for business you can modify your menu based on customer preferences.

Step 4

Find locations.

Location, location, location isn't just true in real estate, it's important for a catering truck business as well. You need a location where there is lots of foot traffic and you need to be able to be at that location during the breakfast and lunch hours, when people are hungry. Spending the time for find good locations for your business might be the most important step you take in determining the success of your business
