Best Book That You Ever Read?

Any thing by Octavia Butler(R.I.P.) But my favorites are Wild Seed, and Lilith's Brood.
I'm telling you if you like Sci-Fi then you will love anything by her.:dance:

OK , now DORO is looking for your voice. Wild Seed is top shelf but:
From Superman to Man by J. A. Rogers had a railway porter bitch slap a U. S. Senator during the 1940's :yes:.

To claim this as the best book you've ever read is very disturbing.:smh::smh: but I suppose, to each, his own.

Anyway, my favorites are;

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
The Republic by Plato
1776 by David McCullough
The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli
The Art of War by Sun Tzu
The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith

damn i can't believe you got all the way through wealth of nations. i've always wanted to read that one but for some reason...just can't get started.

the republic is also another must-read on my list...

I bought it, but haven't read it.

man this book is LONG AS FUCK!!! :lol: and that chapter where the john galt dude is talking on the radio explaining his philosophy is insufferable. good book (tho she caricatured the "bad guys" a bit much) but i'd need extended jail time or a gun to my head to pick that book up again :lol::lol:

:lol::lol::lol:

DUDE...I thought it was just me. I've always heard how great this book is but everytime I try to read it I cant get past the bitch getting to NY or wherever she was going in the beginning. I even have just john galts speech and I cant crack it (I heard she spent a year working on the speech alone.)

Some of my favorites not mentioned (still got to shout out The Alchemist again.)
Anne Mcaferty's dragon riders of pern series(she is a great sci-fi writer)
Timothy Zahn Star Wars Thrawn trilogy (really should be the next movies.)
Isaac asimov's Foundation series

i was told to read it by my Battalion Commander(Brigadier General) in the Marines,while in cuba in 02.I dont even want to know if i didnt read the book when told to what would happen to me.i'm almost done again ,sometimes i read shit like 2 or three times.

Allright glad to see some one else has checked out Octavia Butler. I just looked up From Superman To Man on Amazon.com, and I'm definitely going to check it out. The reviews are crazy. Unfortunately it's out of stock. Looks like i'm going to have to dust off the old library card.

To the O.P. Great Thread! Thanks for getting me back into reading.

Damn I forgot another one of my favorites by this cat that used to work for The Daily News.

Peace,

Not to knock anyone, but I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought The Coldest Winter Ever was some derivative garbage.

Anyway...

Manchild in the Promised is that shit!...good ass recomendation y'all...I just finished reading it it n I'm a lil disappointed that I did..lol...and I'm actually kinda sad that he passed away in 2002..I was hoping there would be more books out by him.

The Rich Dad/Poor Dad series of books(helped me predict, sort out and find a way out of this financial recession...and it won't be over for most of us for another 2-3years)

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas(I read the unabridged version in middle school and have loved the book ever since. I read it once a year; cover to cover. The last three words of the book: "wait and hope" have taught me to be patient and persevere in all difficulties.

I wasn't even going to post anything on this thread because it's hard to narrow down my favorite books but this book right here I had to reply to. I'm so surprised to see someone else post it. I read this in middle school and at least a couple more times after that, I was probably still in middle school. Come to think of it, I may have been in the 6th grade when I initially read it. Looking back, I think this book influenced me deeply.

The Stand ... and also Bag of Bones. Read that one right after someone close to me died and it hit home like you wouldn't believe. Oh.... and honorable mention to Anne Rice's "Queen of the Damned".

good ass recomendation on that 'Bag Of Bones' dawg..good as book!...also the first stephen king book I've ever read.

1984 and the Autobiography of Malcolm X

real original, I know.

A close third would be Psycho Cybernetics.
