Frustrated Fabregas keeps Arsenal option open

Barcelona transfer target Cesc Fabregas has hinted he may yet stay at Arsenal next season, admitting "everything is possible" and reiterating his love for the London club.

In what could be taken as further positive news for Gunners fans, Fabregas spoke out on his frustration at being left on Spain's bench behind preferred midfielders Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets - who all play for Barcelona. The World Cup experience could put doubts in Fabregas' mind about his preferred move to Barcelona, since he is the captain and key player of Arsenal.

"I haven't said that I will definitely leave Arsenal," Fabregas said, according to the Mirror. "Everything is possible. Now I have my head and my focus on the World Cup. I am very proud to be captain of Arsenal and I love the club and have respect for them. It gave me much pride to be made captain."

Of his World Cup campaign, in which he has played around an hour of football after coming off the bench in two of Spain's four matches to date, Fabregas said the role of benchwarmer did not come naturally to him and that his pride for representing his country was diminished by his peripheral role.

"I always want to play. I'm not used to sitting on the bench and I want to be playing at this World Cup. I've never been a player happy to settle for what I have, I always want more. I respect the coach's decision. I know to be in midfield is going to be difficult because we have a lot of good players but I will never give up. I've won a lot of caps but if I've not played three quarters of the game it's not so valuable to me."

Ibrahimovic set to stay

zlatanibrahimovicrain20100504_275x155.jpg

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will remain at Barcelona next season, according to his agent.

Former Inter Milan striker Ibrahimovic, who arrived at Camp Nou in a swap deal with Samuel Eto'o, has been linked with a number of clubs around Europe following the arrival of David Villa.

However, agent Mino Raiola told Radio Radio TV: "Ibra is not moving from Barcelona and I don't understand why he should. He doesn't want to leave Barcelona and the club don't want to sell him.

"He didn't have the kind of ending to the previous campaign that he expected, but everything was going well until February. It's just an exaggeration of the facts to suggest that he should move to another club."

AC Milan and Manchester City are among the clubs linked with the 28-year-old.

Yaya Toure agent claims Man City move close

yayatoureivorycoast20100616_275x155.jpg

Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure will seal a move to Manchester City in the next few days and is set to be a key player at Eastlands, according to his agent Dimitri Seluk.

Toure was expected to leave the Spanish champions earlier this month, but his participation in the World Cup with Ivory Coast and the change of presidents at Barcelona have slowed down the transfer.

But Seluk claims that the move should be finalised shortly after new Barca chief Sandro Rosell takes over from outgoing president Joan Laporta on Thursday.

"I think we will have a solution this week," In fact, I would say that (it will be done) on the first or second of July - maybe on the second because the first will be a very busy day at Barca with the change of president,'' agent Dimitri Seluk told Sport.

Seluk revealed he will speak to Rosell, but insisted his player's mind is made up to leave Barca and join his brother Kolo at City.

"Yes, we have to talk, but of course, the reality is not going to change in one moment,'' he said. "Yaya wants to play the important games and he knows that he will be an important player at Manchester City.

"It is not a money problem, as I have said 1,000 times, but a problem of (the lack of) confidence (that Barca have in him).''

Seluk said nothing had been signed yet, but claimed Toure's salary demands were reasonable.

"I haven't signed anything. However, Yaya doesn't have an astronomical salary, not at all, so it won't be difficult to be reach an agreement,'' he said.

In a story on Barcelona's official website, Joan Oliver, the club's director general, said: " The decision is in the hands of player and his representative. An agreement is needed on the conditions of football with his new club."

Casillas ponders interest from Manchester clubs

ikercasillassave20100216_275x155.gif

Real Madrid goalkeeper Ilker Casillas has revealed he is being tracked by both Manchester City and Manchester United.

Casillas, currently with Spain at the World Cup finals, finds his place at the La Liga club under threat following the arrival of Jose Mourinho who is thought to be targeting a new stopper.

That could lead to Casillas, who has been at the Bernabeu for his whole career, seeking pastures new. And while he insists he has no desire to leave the club he would not rule out a move.

"I am aware of the interest of both Manchester United and City," he told Daily Star Sunday. "I'm always flattered whenever another club shows interest in my qualities as a goalkeeper. I have been at Real Madrid all my career and I still enjoy going to training every day.

"I enjoy meeting the fans too - but we all know how uncertain things are in football. I'm not going to say never. Right now Madrid would have to kick me out of the club before I consider a move. Who knows what will happen, though, if a big money offer comes in."

Sneijder rules out Madrid return

wesleysneijderjosemourinho20100518_275x155.jpg

Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder says he would be "crazy" to follow Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid.

Sneijder, currently on international duty with Netherlands, was a key part of Inter's treble-winning season after he was deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu last summer.

Sneijder insists he hopes Mourinho proves successful in Spain but, given that he was not given a chance to prove himself after president Florentino Perez returned to the club, he will not go back.

"I wish Jose Mourinho all the best at Real Madrid and hope he can win everything because he deserves it, but I will not return to Real," he told El Mundo Deportivo. "I would be crazy to. They treated me badly and without respect."

French pols dish in closed-door talk

article-1290928-0A440A41000005DC-89_468x286.jpg

PARIS -- Lawmakers taking part in a closed-door hearing about France's World Cup fiasco said Wednesday that coach Raymond Domenech refused to take any responsibility for his team's misbehavior and offered no real explanation for their debacle.

Lawmakers said Domenech, who is retiring, tried to pin blame on the media during the parliamentary hearing. Prominent lawmaker Jean-Francois Cope said his testimony "wasn't very dignified."

Many had kinder words for French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes, who plans to resign this week, and who also testified at the hearing held by the National Assembly's commission on culture and education.

The hearing went ahead despite a warning from FIFA about French government meddling in soccer affairs. FIFA president Sepp Blatter said the country's national team risks suspension from global soccer if President Nicolas Sarkozy or political leaders interfere in the running of the federation.

Lawmakers retorted that it wasn't Blatter's place to tell them how to do their jobs.

"It isn't FIFA's role to threaten French lawmakers, we're in a democracy and parliamentarians have the right to hear anyone they want," said lawmaker Eric Ciotti.

"This isn't just about football, it's about France; it's our honor that's at stake," added lawmaker Jacques Remiller.

Remiller said the whole hearing was "disappointing and not convincing at all."

"There will have to be more resignations at the federation, because the problems are deeply, deeply rooted," he said.

The France team, which won the 1998 World Cup and was runner-up four years ago, lost twice and drew once to finish last in its group. Even worse, players went on strike at training after forward Nicolas Anelka was sent home for insulting Domenech.

Then Domenech added yet more dismay by refusing to shake hands with rival coach Carlos Alberto Parreira after France's 2-1 loss to host South Africa.

Lawmakers said Domenech blamed L'Equipe newspaper, which printed details of Anelka's expletive-laden tirade, for the disarray. Domenech also said the paper misquoted the comments.

"All Domenech says is, 'It's the press, it's the press,' " complained lawmaker Bernard Debre.

Domenech entered and left the hearing through a side door, carefully avoiding reporters.

Domenech told lawmakers he refused to shake hands with the South Africa coach because Parreira reportedly made disparaging comments about the French team to reporters, Cope said.

"You can find that a convincing argument, or not," he said, clearly indicating he didn't.

Cope added that lawmakers were planning to offer a series of measures to "modernize the governance of the French federation."

Fifa is gonna lose this fight. They are confused, power hungry, and imagine themselves to be a multinational corporation that alone determines the affairs of every FA. What they forget is that the FA operate under the flags and financial sponsorship of their individual countries. Fuck what Fifa says, it cannot arbitrarily enact rules that disassociate FA from the countries created and fund them. Who is Fifa to tell a country how to run its sports. They are going to get egg all over their face. I am glad that France is in this fight, because with their standing and power, they cut the nuts off and neuter Fifa..

Im still undecided on this one. They didn't even try to get more than the point against Portugal. The most frustrating thing was watching them not even try to take a corner in the dying seconds of the game. However, had portugal not exploded against N Korea, Ivory Coast could have very well made it out of the group.

All Portugal had to do was beat North Korea 1-0 and Cote D Ivoire was fucked even if they beat North Korea 70-0. The draw that Brazil gave Portugal gave the qualifiying 5th point. Cote D'Ivoire could not have got more than 4 points... Fifa screwed Cote D'Ivoire. I think they really did not want any African team to make it to the second round, and if they made in to the second round. Otherwise, how did 3rd and the 1st team end up in the same group?

Such blatant political interference isn't allowed in FIFA and will result in a ban from competition, possibly even for longer than the date that he supposedly suspended the team for. Sani Abacha got Nigeria kicked out of the CAF for a few years for banning them to compete in SA, because of his beef with Mandela.

This is nothing more than a cheap attempt at gaining political points from an avenue that all 150 million Nigerians care about regardless of region, ethnicity etc,

Instead of posting nonsensical spam on a porn board, actually visit, Nigerian football forums and you will see everyone recognizes it as such there as well.

Let's assume this is legit for a second and take the decision at face value. It's laughable to even begin to consider that barring Nigeria from competing in the African Nations Cup, or in qualifying will improve the level of national team football, almost as laughable as your 'football knowledge' that is lifted right from the pages of wikipedia, but thats a different story

Fuck what the charter of Fifa says. If Goodluck Jonathan wants to remove the team from international competition, that is a good thing. From what I am hearing, Fifa has been arrogating more powers unto itself, and for them to tell what a sovereign government how to run its sports affairs is bullshit. These European beauracrats have given themselves powers that challenge the traditional role of government. A few years ago, they fined an African country $65 0000 for having an unsafe stadium. What the fuck? Who are they to tell a country what amenities it should have in a stadium. Their original mandate was to organise competition, regulate the rules of the and ensure fairness on the field. Fifa was not always entitled to compel countries to participate in its competitions. France, England, and many other European countries never bothered to attend the first Fifa World Cup.

Nigerian team suspended for poor play

Nigeria-006.jpg

ABUJA, Nigeria -- The president of Nigeria has suspended the national soccer team from international competition for two years after a poor showing at the World Cup.

Ima Niboro, a spokesman for President Goodluck Jonathan, made the announcement Wednesday, saying the ban would enable the country to reorganize its football administration.

Niboro said that all funding for the World Cup squad, including the hiring of Swedish coach Lars Lagerback, would be investigated.

Nigeria was eliminated from the World Cup with just one point, which came in a 2-2 draw with South Korea in its final game. Nigeria lost to Argentina 1-0 in its Group B opener and fell to Greece 2-1 in a game turned by the first-half expulsion of midfielder Sani Kaita.

The Super Eagles haven't won a World Cup match since 1998, going out with two losses and a draw in 2002 and failing to qualify for Germany 2006.

The Nigerian Football Federation's executive committee had earlier tendered an apology to the government and "all football loving Nigerians" for the early exit.

Nigeria risks being banned by FIFA, soccer's governing body, from all international soccer because of the political interference.

"At the time of writing, we have no official information on this matter," FIFA said in a statement. "However, in general, FIFA's position regarding political interference in football is well known."

Nigeria's next scheduled international match is a qualifier for the 2012 African Cup of Nations, at home against Madagascar in early September.

FIFA rules demand that national federations manage their affairs independently, or face suspension from world soccer. National and club teams, plus referees, would be barred from participating in international matches and soccer officials are prevented from attending meetings.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter had already expressed concern over the French government's investigation into France's surprising first-round exit from the World Cup.

"Definitely I can tell you that political interference will be dealt with by FIFA notwithstanding what kind of interference and what is the size of the country," Blatter said Tuesday in remarks about France.

It is the attitude of Nigeria and Cameroon (which I railed against 1 month before the World Cup) which I am against. Both of them want to qualify, but once they get there, they do not give a damn. Goodluck Jonathan is absolutely right. Fire all the motherfuckers. Send the message that this shit is serious, and that you cannot put on the national uniform and do whatever shit you want. Inferior teams like Japan and Korea beating Cameroon and Nigeria respectively. What sort of shit is that. They might as well not attend the World Cup. Roger Millah criticised this team, and Eto'o in his petulant arrogance threated to walk away from the team. JJ Okocha has just come in and said the same things we saw... Nigeria lacks the passion and hunger that we saw in JJ Okocha, Rashidi Yekini, Daniel Amokachi, Siasia, etc...

Fuck these Obafemi Martens. Their good fortunes in Europe, the opportunities they got to play in England and Italy, come directly from the hardwork of the 1994 team. The same thing for Eto'o Webo and all these stupid fucks. They think they are there on their own merits, but if they were outplayed by Zambia in last Africa Cup, then Zambia must have better players than them. And if the Zambian players are not in Europe, never mind the EPL or Serie A, then they need to question the notion that their own fortunes result exclusively from their talents...

If they are not performing, not only are they embarassing their countries and Africa, but they are closing doors for other people.

I hope these fools do not for one moment believe that are better than players like Eugene Kabongo Ngoi, Roger Millah, Kalusha Bwalya, and other African players who never got a chance to play in the top European leagues because it is not true. Samuel Eto'o is not equal to Rabah Majer. Steven Keshi is better than most of these jokes. Luis Mfede was a better midfielder than any who played for Nigeria or Cameroon in this world cup...And yet Majer, Emmanuel Kunde, Makanaky, Mfede, Jules Bocande etc... never got the opportunities these fools are now getting.

So we're looking at a front 3 of Villa-Ibra-Messi. Originally thought at the end of the season Pedro would get a starting spot with Henry looking to head to NY but I'm ok with this. Definitely gives us some needed height in the box with him staying....just hope he stays healthy.

Always liked Yaya, wish he stayed. Will still root for him @ City.

Guardiola has slowly but surely got rid of all the black people. Two years ago they had Etoo, Henry, Toure, Keita and who else;;; Now Henry, Eto'o and Toure are gone, with Keita to follow suit. If Africans would get their shit together and dominate the sport, they would force white people to fight for them they way they fight for black Americans in the NBA and NFL. Right now, there are some white people who seem to think the less black the team the better. Look at what happened to the Dutch national team...

Sad sad sad sad... but the World Cup in Brazil will sound more African than the World Cup in South Africa.. while Bafana Bafana paraded the stadium with fake pony tails blowing horns, and manifesting little that is African, Brazil promises to parlay an orgy of African arts. The sound of our music and drums will be in the air.. South Africa has the money, but it does not have sense...

Brazil is disrespecting the Netherlands in a manner it never dared against Cote D'Ivoire. They are playing a high backline and, compacting the field and challenging the manhood of the Dutch in midfield. This is how the Brazilians play the Europeans who lack quickness in midfirld in the speed up front. Against Ivory Coast, the Brazilians conceded the midfield, played Kaka deep in defense, stretched the field, refusing to tempt the Africans in a footrace. The Brazilian goal in the first half came against the run of play after Kolo Toure got the ball but it was taken from him by Kaka...The Dutch will pay for leaving black people out of their team....
