***Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread***

Where does all the english talent thats scouted for youth teams liek Chelsea, united and the rest go? What bout the Under 21 , I have seen some talented brothers with some potential there. It seems most of the youth talent just disappears into oblivion, if most of the talent were backed like the way overrated rooney is then who knows. If the FA took the Germna football associations approach to grooming young talent the english team would be a formidable force. Most of the german team are very you and yet look how good they play way better than seasoned veterans.

Believe it or not, most of the youth teams at Chelsea are English. But with every 'foreign superstar' Chelsea buys, there goes another chance for someone to be given the opportunity to prove what he can do. This happens with most of the top clubs here in England. Most of them then sign up for lower league clubs just for the opportunity then to play football and then disappear into oblivion.

Some clubs are trying to rectify this by developing academies, but even then the clubs are still signing up youngsters from abroad as well.

I understand that but its his job to unearth talent too. I mean to hell with what Skysports and MOTD says...go find players that want to play

I think Capello if he stays in this job (personally think he should go) England should start again from scratch. Grow some balls and tell certain players that they don't feature in his plans anymore. The myth that Lampard and Gerrard can't play together is all so evident. I don't want to hear about players are tired, because next month they will be out there with there clubs on pre season tours looking fresh as a daisy.

Manchester Shitty agree deal with Valencia for David Silva

102150_news.jpg

Manchester City have confirmed that they have concluded an agreement with Valencia to sign Spain international David Silva.

The player is set to undergo a medical and complete his move to Eastlands after the World Cup.

The 24-year-old will then ink a four-year contract with the Premier League outfit, who are desperate to mount a challenge for at least a top four finish next season and probably the title itself.

“Firstly I would like to thank Valencia as a club and all of their loyal fans, and my team mates there and staff. I have enjoyed six years at Valencia, they discovered me as a footballer and they will always be a special club for me," said Silva, according to City's official website.

“The time is right for me to seek a new challenge, and I am thrilled about playing in England with Manchester City. I believe the Premier Leagueis one of the best competitions in the world and I want to bring success to City and win trophies for them.

"I want to say that I always hoped to come to Manchester City and I am excited about my future there. They are a club with a great future with fantastic players.

"I want to be an important player in Manchester City’s history.

"There has been a lot of speculation about me in the British and Spanish media, and I need to fully concentrate on playing for Spain in the World Cup. That is why my advisors have been dealing with City for me so that I can have my attentions only on South Africa and playing well for my national team."

City manager Roberto Mancini echoed the player's delight, and was looking forward to working with the Spain star.

"I think that David Silva is one of the best midfielders in Europe, and I hope he will be a very important player for Manchester City," the Italian said.

"I am so pleased he is coming to us, I think he can make a big, big impact for Manchester City. In signing David, we are showing the World that we are bringing the best players here and that we hope to compete to win the Premier League. When players see what is happening at Manchester City and the ambition they are attracted to what we are building and want to be a part of it."

"I hope he does very well for Spain in the World Cup and then joins us for our pre-season, ready to compete in the Premier League. I am very excited about seeing him playing for Manchester City."

Tyler staying with ESPN for 2014

martin-tyler.jpg

JOHANNESBURG -- ESPN is keeping broadcaster Martin Tyler for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"We have a deal with Martin for 2014," Jed Drake, the executive producer of ESPN's World Cup coverage, said in an interview at the network's office overlooking Soccer City.

Tyler is regarded as one of the top soccer announcers in Britain, where he broadcasts the Premier League and Champions League for Sky Sports. He is part of ESPN's all-British play-by-play crew for this year's World Cup matches, joined by Adrian Healey, Derek Rae and Ian Darke.

"That was all the talk coming in," Drake said late Tuesday. "Once they got on the air, that's gone away."

Tyler was hired for this year's tournament following criticism of Dave O'Brien, the network's lead announcer during the 2006 World Cup.

Tyler, whose brother-in-law lives in the Detroit area, hasn't overly targeted his broadcasting to the U.S. For him, it's still "football" and not "soccer."

"The question I've been asked the most is, 'Well, what are you going to change for the American audience?' My answer has been the same, which is: 'I've been signed for what I am, not what they want to make me," he said. "I hope I am sensitive enough from my time in the States to know there might be a time not to be too colloquial, not to get a bit Cockney."

He doesn't see his job as promoting the sport, which is being watched in record numbers in the U.S. during this year's World Cup.

"I'm not an evangelist. I believe in the game. It's not for me to tell people who don't believe. I'm not trying to change nonbelievers," he said. "I do think there is a fear of football, which is ridiculous. In a country as vast and as wonderful as yours, there is room for so much more sports than you have. ... We think we have over 100 full-time football teams in our country, on our little island, and because you don't have any relegation, you don't have the wherewithal for small towns to come in and become big towns."

The United States' 2-1 overtime loss to Ghana in the second round Sunday was seen by 14.86 million viewers, the most-watched men's World Cup game ever in the U.S. It surpassed even the much-hyped American opener against England, a 1-1 tie seen by 13.1 million viewers on June 12.

Drake thinks U.S. ratings can be sustained over the rest of the knockout phase despite the Americans' elimination.

"We caught a big break in the draw giving us U.S.-England on the second day in the afternoon on ABC. That propelled this," he said. "We're not going to get the extraordinary ratings the U.S. team brought to us, but we're going to get very good numbers."

ESPN constructed the largest set at the International Broadcast Center, perched on scaffolds 25 feet high, with equipment brought in from New York and London. Analysts rotating through it include Juergen Klinsmann, Ruud Gullit, Roberto Martinez, Alexi Lalas and Steve McManaman. The set, with its huge high-definition television, will be dismantled in the three weeks after the final on July 11.

Boateng misses training, but will play

Ghana expects Kevin-Prince Boateng to be fit for its World Cup quarterfinal against Uruguay after recovering from a right thigh injury.

Boateng missed training Monday but team spokesman Randy Abbey said Tuesday he should be available for Friday's game.

Abbey said Boateng had been "rested" but "will be fine." Abbey also said Isaac Vorsah was back practicing after a week out with a right leg injury, while doubts over fellow defenders John Mensah and Samuel Inkoom had also cleared.

Ghana, the last African representative at the World Cup, will be without suspended players Jonathan Mensah and Andre Ayew.

Van Marwijk calls for Dutch team unity

DURBAN, South Africa -- Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk has demanded unity among his World Cup players after Robin van Persie's angry outburst.

Van Persie's irate reaction at being substituted in the 2-1 win over Slovakia threatened to derail preparations for the quarterfinal against Brazil.

Van Marwijk said Tuesday he called a team meeting after reports in Dutch media that the striker said midfielder Wesley Sneijder should have been brought off instead of him.

"I will never accept anything that could upset the next match," Van Marwijk told Dutch national broadcaster NOS.

"I spoke to Robin and he is supposed to have said something about Wesley. I've spoken to Wesley and after that I called the team together ... told them what I think and then drew a line under it."

He did not elaborate, but his swift action was clearly intended to preserve unity in the buildup to Friday's quarterfinal in Port Elizabeth.

Previous Dutch campaigns have been rocked by infighting, but the team had appeared unified in South Africa.

Van Marwijk insists he nipped the latest dispute in the bud.

"I've always said I don't mind if something happens -- that can make you stronger -- but I don't like to leave problems dangling," he said. "It's over. For everybody."

Van Persie and Sneijder did not speak to the media Tuesday, but Van Persie denied Monday having said Sneijder should have been replaced instead of him.

Van Marwijk said he did not hear what Van Persie said to him after the substitution because of the din of vuvuzelas in Durban's sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium. Sneijder did not speak to reporters after the Slovakia match.

Van Persie and Sneijder have a history of tense relations dating back to a public spat over who should have taken a free kick in the 2008 European Championship quarterfinal loss to Russia.

Van Persie was clearly angry at being substituted Monday, believing chances were about to come his way.

"I wanted to finish the game. I thought they would take risks in the last 10 minutes and I wanted to exploit that," Van Persie said after the game. "I could see spaces opening up and I wanted to use them, so I was a bit shocked when I had to go off."

Immediately after the match, Van Marwijk played down any dispute with his starting striker, who has scored 19 goals in 48 internationals.

"I shook his hand and understood that he was disappointed; that's not a bad thing," Van Marwijk said Monday. "Everyone wants to play the whole game."

The most famous case of Dutch disunity was at the 1996 European Championship, when coach Guus Hiddink sent midfielder Edgar Davids home early for insulting him in an interview. That talented squad reportedly also was divided between black and white players.

Van Marwijk's predecessor, Marco van Basten, also fell out with Davids, Mark van Bommel and Clarence Seedorf and famously criticized Ruud van Nistelrooy during the 2006 World Cup.

World Cup trophy replicas stolen

PRETORIA, South Africa -- South Africa's police commissioner says seven World Cup replica trophies have been stolen from FIFA headquarters in Johannesburg.

Gen. Bheki Cele said at a security briefing Tuesday "we know that there was a burglary at the FIFA offices where they took seven replicas of the World Cup."

Cele says official FIFA clothing was also taken.

FIFA said the trophies were taken from a storage room, but there was no sign of a break-in. The trophies, which are usually used as gifts, are about 6 inches tall and worth $256.

Cele added police were looking into the theft and suspected the people responsible were "very familiar with the environment in the FIFA offices."

FIFA's headquarters is in the high-class northern Johannesburg suburb of Sandton.

Glad to hear that Boateng will be back but Ayew will be a huge loss. Especially considering that the yellow was very dubious.

Di Maria joins Real Madrid

Angel%20Di%20Maria.jpg

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Benfica winger Angel Di Maria on a six-year deal, as new manager Jose Mourinho builds his squad for the new season.

Di Maria is currently on international duty with Argentina at the World Cup in South Africa, but will swap the Portuguese league for the Spanish Primera Division once the competition has ended for a fee reported to be in the region of €25 million.

A statement on Madrid's official website read: "Real Madrid and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Angel di Maria. The player will sign a six-year contract with Real Madrid.''

The 22-year-old won the double with Benfica last season and was named the league's player of the year. He started his career with Rosario Central in Argentina before moving to Benfica in 2007 and is viewed as one of Europe's finest young talents.

Speaking about his move, Di Maria said: "It is an honour to know that Jose Mourinho wants to sign me. It will be very nice to play in the same team as Cristiano Ronaldo and many other stars, but for now I'm focused on the Argentina team."

Argentina coach Diego Maradona had heaped praise on the winger before the tournament, saying: "He is a spectacular player, who is growing day by day. He faces defenders continually and that's what people pay for today in the world. I hope they [Benfica] sell him for €200 million and earn a lot of silver."

Keone, People here on BGOL were saying the same thing last year. Looked what happened !!!!

Just when we were talking about English talent not getting a break this happens, R.I.P Adam Johnson's development

Just when you think that a english youngster will get a break into getting into the first team, this happens.

^^^^^^^^^^

I guess that for some people here on BGOL, supporting a football club apart from Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal is something new to them. You would've thought that it was a 3 team league in England.

God bless Jonathan ... This is exactly what I called for. Get rid of every single motherfucker on that team and start with Enyaema and Ademwingie. Let the rest make their fortunes in Europe. From there, get the youth, put under Siasia and let them go. Fuck those buggers.

I like the idea, but Fifa is going to throw the book at Nigeria for this

Fifa cant do shit. They cannot compel a country to play football. Margaret Thatcher withdrew English teams from international football for how many years after the Heysel Stadium incident. Fuck Fifa, they do not run the Nigerian FA.

you know we just fuckin with you MCP

I just seent this mahfucka wenger partyin it up with patric viera and zizou sippin on cognac down here that mahfucka better have notebook filled with names of all the players he's gonna sign

who am I kidding nigga aint gonna do shit again :hmm:

This is from ESPN ": Argentina shows no respect"
Thomas Mueller, who scored twice against England, could be the deciding factor in the match, which might be embarrassing to Maradona.

By now, he should have heard of Mueller. The last time Argentina played Germany in a friendly in March, Maradona felt so slighted when Mueller sat on the podium with him at the postmatch news conference that he stormed off and refused to return until Mueller left the stage to the coach alone.:lol:

Mueller had just made his debut for Germany then. Now, he leads his team at the World Cup with three goals

Looks like another year of promise for Mr Wenger, but once again to no avail.

World Cup 2010: Nigeria president suspends team

Nigeria managed only one point after drawing 2-2 with South Korea
Nigeria's president has suspended his nation's football team from international competition for two years after a poor showing at the World Cup.
Special presidential adviser Ima Niboro told reporters the decision by Goodluck Jonathan will "enable Nigeria to reorganise its football".
The Nigerian Football Federation is to be dissolved and an interim board appointed, the BBC understands.
Nigeria were knocked out in the group stages without winning a game.
Niboro said: "President Goodluck Jonathan has directed that Nigeria withdraws from international competition for two years to enable the country to put its house in order.

Fifa's position regarding political interference in football is well known. Our statutes do not allow for any political interference
Fifa statement
"This directive became necessary following Nigeria's poor performance in the ongoing World Cup."
The president also plans an audit of the country's World Cup organising committee.
"If any financial misappropriation is discovered, all officials responsible will be held accountable," Niboro added.
The NFF released a statement apologising to "all football-loving Nigerians" for the country's early exit from South Africa.
"No previous board has qualified Nigeria for all major tournaments internationally," the statement read, adding that officials wanted Swedish coach Lars Lagerbeck to remain at the helm.
Rotimi Amaechi, head of a special presidential task force on the World Cup campaign, said Nigeria would write to football's world governing body Fifa to explain its decision.
"We went to the World Cup and found all sorts of problems and we felt we should sit back and look inward," Amaechi told reporters.

Extended highlights - Nigeria 2-2 South Korea

Under Fifa rules, government interference with national teams is strictly forbidden.
"At the time of writing, we have no official information on this matter," a Fifa statement read.
"However, in general, Fifa's position regarding political interference in football is well known. Our statutes do not allow for any political interference."
Nigeria's risks their national and club teams, plus referees, being banned from all international competitions - and their officials would not be allowed to attend meetings or events.
Nigeria were set to begin their bid to qualify for the 2012 African Nations Cup finals in September against Madagascar.

The Nigeria government pays 100% of the budget of the NFF, but Fifa has a stupid rule which bars the government from saying anything about its FF? Fuck Fifa... Jonathan is right. Fuck the NFF, how are they gonna want to keep that stupid coach Largenback?

Fifa cant do shit. They cannot compel a country to play football. Margaret Thatcher withdrew English teams from international football for how many years after the Heysel Stadium incident. Fuck Fifa, they do not run the Nigerian FA.

Yes Fifa can, only an idiot would think this is a good thing. This just shows what is wrong with Nigerian football especially in terms of government interference.....this show of chest beating will not last or they will get banned from international competition.
