***Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread***

Feel me tho? I haven't heard Alexi Lalas say anything out of the norm. He's a man that's proud his country just advanced to the quarters of the World Cup. That's it. No different from any other country on the planet that's in the quarters. I didn't hear anything berating Ghana or African football. Not by a long shot.

And this...

Nzinga bait! You've been warned! :nailbiting:

[FLASH]http://www.youtube.com/v/wCfWHqrYUqo&hl=en_US&fs=1&[/FLASH]

Didn't Lalas pick the US over England and now he is saying the US is an underdog against Ghana? In my other post, I wasn't clear. Lalas is trying to take pressure off the US by stating they are the underdog when they clearly are not. A separate issue is that just about every "soccer" bar I have been to in the US is filled with "condescending" white fans who always to want to challenge me on something yet don't understand what an offside trap is. You are right to say that Lalas should be proud of his country, but people are acting like the US jusr beat a powerhouse to progress out of a group of death. Just as Ghana had no business celebrating a 1 nil group stage win against Serbia, US supporters shouldn't be so hype about narrowly edging out Slovenia to progress out of arguably the easiest group in the world cup. Even if the US progresses against Ghana, it is not something I would celebrate as a major accomplishment. Ghana has only been to the world cup one other time previously and never have got past the round of 16. I understand that the US media has to get people hype to watch the matches, but I dont think serious US supporters should be excited about things that are supposed to happen when you are considered a top national side.

Cosign. We should beat Ghana though. If our defense doesnt give away cheap goals early, we will beat Ghana.

We have played better than most people expected... They certainly look better than what I expected..especially in the midfield. So people are just hyped about our chances. We didnt crawl out of group either...we should have qualified after game 2 but we had a goal stolen from us at the end. We have not only played technically very well but we have played inspired football for the first time.

They tied... is that not believing a win was inconceivable?

Again, what's wrong with this?? Me personally, I can see Ghana strolling past us if they could finish, but that's where they struggle. There's no shame in humbling yourself to your opponent. But you also can't fear your opponent either. It's give and take, but I don't see the harm in having your men understand that their opposition is just as hungry as you are, if not hungrier... so go out there and take care of business.

I don't know what bars you head out to, and if this is what's happening, send me the invite so I can smack these fools around... nobody considers us a top national side, and shouldn't. US Soccer is still in a growing stage and will be for the next decade. Maybe then we can consider ourselves one of the big boys, but by no means are we tinkering with that idea, and anyone who tells you that is an emotional fool.

Check it fam, a win is a win. 3 pts is 3pts, and advancing is advancing.

I'm sure Ghanaians are ecstatic that they are progressing to the knockout stages, even though they just lost to Germany.

Should they not be happy either?? Cause they may exit to whoever they face if they beat us??

I'm sure these teams, and their supporters understand the task at hand, and that work needs to be done. We all get that bro. But there's nothing wrong in basking in your achievements, especially in this country where we're hated on by unanimous vote in the world of football. All U.S. supporters know what time it is, and our place in the footballing world. We know that Ghana, Uruguay, and Brazil possibly stand in our way to the cup, and will more than likely take us out somewhere along that line.

Saturday night brings a new challenge and a new match, but today, we as Americans are going to celebrate where we are right now at this very moment in time.

Quarterfinals with Ghana awaiting.

Just coming back.

WOW... AUssies beat Serbia? HA!

This is great! Now US gets Ghanna, and Germany's gotta play ENGLAND!! Either way, a power house gets put out, and we have a team we SHOULD get a win from (I hope, even though it means our only African teams got to go)

Either way, I think this is the best case scenario for the US!

Yeah. I agree. IF we can beat Ghana, we also will have another winnable game against South Korea or Uruguay.

It is winnable by both... but if you guys finish like you have so far, you wont win...Ghana is not scoring any goals with them being free penalty kicks...that is not a good look...

I'd rather play Ghana than ENG or GER... just sayin.

All due respect.

I'll hate doing it to my West African brothers, but shit, the Akan people sold us into slavery:lol::lol::lol:

Let me preface this by saying that after reading back over my post, I realize I sound like a contrarian. I completely understand that everyone is happy the US progressed and I am not trying to be "that guy". However, I still don't see how the US should be pleased with narrowly getting out of an easy group that they were favored to get out of. Yes, its good that the US ultimately advanced but it is bad that it took a winner in stoppage time to prevent Slovenia from going instead. For me, this is the reason that the English acted as if the world had ended after their draw with the US (the nature of the goal played a role as well) and the US was more than satisfied with the point. Also, I still don't see how the US can be an underdog against a team ranked higher (England) and also against a team ranked much lower (Ghana). The one positive the US can take away that no one predicted is that they would top the group. Anyway, the rest of the tournament should be interesting as I am pretty much a neutral now that all of the francophone teams are out (Ivory Coast is as good as out). Hopefully there will be no injuries or suspensions in the later rounds.

Ghana can definetly beat the USA and then will take on the winner of Uruguay/South Korea. Ghana's chances of going to the semis are looking good.

No it doesn't, not at the rate at which they're playing! I can't believe I took the day off to watch this shit, at least the bright spot was US winning but they pulled the same shit Ghana did, except they took advantage of the numerous chances they got.

The English and American media made the group out to be an "easy" qualification to the next round.

But Algeria beat Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations, and Slovenia beat out Poland, Czech Republic and Russia(who were runners-up in Euro 2008) to qualify for the World Cup.

Are you kidding? Alexi Lalas if so fucking annoying. He's like when you step on poodle poop and you don't know until you get in your car. He's like when the TV volume annoyingly goes up when commercials come on. He's like when you have to wait for handicapped people to take ALL FUCKING DAY to get on the bus.
I hate him
.
