Basic football:
When the other team has someone on the wing, you must put at least 2 defenders between the ball and the goal. In the case of Nigeria, it was always one on one. When you are on a breakaway, there must be no more than one defedender between the strikers and the other forward. Odemwingie was absolutely right to scream at his team mates. He made a good run, but had no support. Nigeria sat in a zone all game long, while Argentina marked them man to man. As a result Nigeria were disrupted through out the field.
In the second half, Nigeria came apart, and if Argentina were not bad team, they would have scored more goals...

In this, as in any other football game, everything was decided in midfield. The Nigerians contested the midfield for the first 15 mintues of the game and then gave up. The only thing that saved them was the back 4. The Argentines, on the balance of such dominance in midfield, should have scored more goals, but Higuahin was missing in action, and the Nigerians actually contained Messi well by making him go on tangential runs.
100% of Nigeria's problems were in midfield. They had one forward up without any support. Even Fabregas asked where the number 10 was. You know nothing about football shut up.

Mexico played a brilliant game, and were robbed of a clear goal by the referee. However, the limitation of the Brazilian square box were utilized against them, but a clever coach who understands that system better than they do. Simply put, he exercised speed up the middle to put pressure on the two center backs. Unlike Nigeria, South Africa gave never left their center forward isolated. South Africa should have won the game, having been denied a clear penalty. But that was fair given how the refs robbed Mexico in the second half.
As for Mexico lacking skill, the best player in the World Cup so far has been Giovanni Dos Santos. This game is about the midfield. The sooner you understand this, the sooner understanding will come to you.

The back 4 in football, is not supposed to play with the ball, unless they it is on start and they are trying to probe for an opnening. Anytime the back 4 has to handle the ball, it means the mid field has failed. The midfield is ALL of this game. The back 4 is a firestop, and not meant to be an every play active part of the game. The back 4 is supposed to handle the ball as little as the Argentine back 4 did. When the other team does not score, the back 4 has done its job. Messi had all those chances because Argentina were walking through the none existent Nigerian midfield. On the other side, the Nigerian forwards had few chances because their midfielders were crap.

The back 4 deserves credit for not giving Argentina clean looks at the goal, given how many times they were exposed by the disgraceful Nigerian midfield.
Remember the break away when there were 6 Argentine forwards and 2 Nigerian defenders. The defenders got the upper hand.
