***Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread***

You have a real psychological problems homie if you believe this. Also,
the only one who has been insulting is you. You should work on that man. This has nothing to do with football. You obviously have a real problem.

Read the vitriol Candle has been writing for me in last 5 pages before you say anything.

Can you explain then why John Utaka, Papa Bouba Diop, Johnston Etuhu, Benoit Assot-Ekotto, Michael Essien, Solomon Kalou, Didier Drogba, all of african descent are warmly welcomed in the premiership?

I've noticed that some of your rants about football is nothing short of buffoonery. I am so sure that you have never kicked a ball in your life.

I tried to tell him bruv.

You could add Kolo Toure, Diouf, Benny McCarthy and Eboue. We have a lot of shitty African players but he wants to bang on about Landon or Dempsey. Both of whom are pretty good players and are here on merit.

Not because they are white

England will have to watch Dempsey because he has played against everyone in the English side.

wiuatk.jpg

He will know that if he starts to talk trash to Ashley, John Terry or Lamps about their shagging around.....

I'm assuming that you're talking about myself.

You still haven't answered my question about the premiership being a racist league. Based on your earlier post about Grobelaar being welcome here, could you please clarify.

Can you also tell me where I'm wrong with my previous post?

No not you I am talking about Largebillsonly

Mow you are becoming verbally abusive like candle...Any time people become verbally violent, it is because they have lost the argument on the technical merits. Both of you know little about football. Most of the people who have played and followed this game are laughing at you naive assumptions and prognostications...

no from post one in this thread you started off calling me ignorant and other things without any type of previous interaction with me and i addressed that issue before. so dont even try and play the victim role. the argument hasnt been lost, it just keeps going because you refuse to open your eyes and see that you yourself have already admitted to agreeing with me. why you must continue arguing against a point you already agreed with is just beyond me. unfortunately it irks me when individuals act like this and this is why i keep responding to you. i refuse to give up hope. i think you have a chance to see the light and come to your senses. you're not a lost cause but i maybe wrong, its just my nice human nature i guess

If there are shitty African players it is because once they got the likes of JJ Okocha, everyone wanted a cheap African player.... If they had been fair, they could have had players like Etoo a long time ago. However they did not want Africans, and now they are loading up on anyone from Africa. Having said that, they are better than American players.

Calling someone ignorant is not an insult. It is merely saying he lacks knowledge. Where Americans get this meaning of ignorance they have I do not know.

Read the vitriol Candle has been writing for me in last 5 pages before you say anything.

Last 5 pages?? Do a search my dude. It didn't just start here. I've roasted you in several threads on BGOL, ranging from a wide variety of topics that aren't football related.

My problem isn't with your footballing knowledge.

It's with your logic. There's a difference.

Read the vitriol Candle has been writing for me in last 5 pages before you say anything.

Like I said, I dont make Ad Hominem arguments.
This thread is getting pointless now.....will check back in when the actual cup starts..

ANC says Mandela attending opener

soc_a_mandela_200.jpg

JOHANNESBURG -- Nelson Mandela met with South Africa's national soccer team Thursday, the same day the country's ruling party said its most famous citizen will attend the World Cup's opening game and the final.

Mandela wore a yellow Bafana Bafana team jersey with the No. 4 of captain Aaron Mokoena on the front when he appeared with players at his foundation in Johannesburg. The players sang "Nelson Mandela there is no one like you," as he entered the room at his offices in the Johannesburg suburb of Houghton.

Also on Thursday, African National Congress spokesman Jackson Mthembu said Mandela will make a rare public appearance at next week's tournament opener, between the host and Mexico, and the July 11 final. The announcement came amid worries the 91-year-old icon would be too frail to attend South Africa's biggest sporting event.

"Madiba will grace both the opening and the closing of the World Cup," Mthembu said, using the traditional clan name by which Mandela is affectionately known in South Africa. "We are very honored to have an icon of Mandela's caliber to grace this important event. We are very happy that Madiba will come. The Madiba magic will add to the excitement."

A spokesman at Mandela's foundation would not say if Mandela would attend next Friday's match, saying Mandela's schedule is not disclosed ahead of time for security reasons.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter said Wednesday that World Cup organizers desperately hoped Mandela would make the opening game. Blatter said the World Cup would not be the same without Mandela, and that his presence would be the "highlight" of the event.

South Africa's former president retired from public life in 2004, but made a surprise appearance last year at an ANC rally before the national election.

Mandela now makes very few appearances in public, but was photographed with the World Cup trophy last month.

He has been credited by FIFA as one of the architects of Africa's first World Cup. In December 2009, he recorded a video message on the significance of the event.

"We feel privileged and humbled that South Africa has been given the singular honor of being the African host country," Mandela said in the message. "We must strive for excellence in our hosting of the World Cup while at the same time ensuring that the event leaves a lasting benefit to all our people."

On Thursday, he was greeted by South Africa's most famous soccer players, who sang, "Nelson Mandela there is no one like you," as he entered the room at his offices in the Johannesburg suburb of Houghton.

Mokoena then introduced Mandela to the 6-foot-6 defender Matthew Booth, and said of Booth, "Here is the tallest man in the building." Mandela himself is 6-foot-4.

Mandela has strong links to sport in South Africa after he famously appeared at the 1995 Rugby World Cup final wearing the green and gold jersey of the Springboks, the country's national rugby team.

Mandela had the No. 6 of rugby captain Francois Pienaar on the back of his jersey that day, and South Africa went on to win the title.

A reputation for inspiring teams to victory with his presence, known as the "Madiba magic," was cemented when he wore a Bafana top ahead of their triumph in the 1996 African Cup of Nations -- still South Africa's only major soccer achievement.

Brazil holds public practice in Soweto

soc_g_brazil_soweto_300.jpg

JOHANNESBURG -- Jumping, dancing and chanting, more than 1,000 fans showed up in Soweto on Thursday to get a glimpse of Brazil's practice for the World Cup.

Fans yelled and waved Brazilian and South African flags the moment the players entered the field at the Dobsonville Stadium, and screamed even louder when the Brazilians waved back to them.

"We are ecstatic with what is happening here," said 20-year-old student Khethiwe Nyembe. "It's hard to believe that the entire Brazilian team is practicing here. It's fantastic we are getting this chance."

Before the training session, coach Dunga gave a ball and a Brazilian flag to two children, then posed for a photo. Dunga also played with some of the ball boys, as did midfielder Kaka.

It was expected to be Brazil's only practice open to the public before the World Cup. Brazil is not likely to grant more access to the public; players and officials said fan hysteria was one of the reasons the team was eliminated in the 2006 World Cup.

Hundreds of fans outside the stadium greeted the players as they arrived on the team bus.

Tickets for training were given away to locals, and up to 10,000 people were expected to show up. Not nearly that many came to the stadium in the township outside Johannesburg known for violent resistance to apartheid in the late 1970s and 1980s.

Those who got in were thrilled to get a close view of the Brazilians.

"What an honor to be able to see these players from up close, we couldn't be happier," said 18-year-old student Sithembiso Ntshingila. "What a great opportunity this is."

Some were disappointed not to see some of previous stars of the Brazilian team. Dunga revamped the squad after taking over following the 2006 World Cup, omitting players such as Ronaldo, Adriano and Ronaldinho.

"Is Ronaldinho here? I'm hoping to see him," Gerson Maboko said outside the stadium. "What do you mean he is not here? Why? At least can we see Robinho and Kaka?"

Those two players were there, to the delight of the crowd, which yelled every time the players got near them on the sidelines.

"We are happy they came here so we could see them play," said 18-year-old Zara Abdulla.

There was heavy security around the field and the fans were not able to get too close to the action. Many fans left as the practice neared the end.

The team's preparations for the 2006 World Cup were marked by a party atmosphere that players and coaches said was detrimental to the team. Thousands of fans were allowed to follow nearly all of Brazil's training sessions and a fan zone was set up near the team's base in Weggis, Switzerland. Brazil lost 1-0 to France in the quarterfinals.

Brazil's training camp this time is at a local high school, where only a few students have enjoyed access to practices. Fans are not allowed near the field.

Goalkeeper Julio Cesar did not make the trip to Soweto after a mild back injury in the match against Zimbabwe, but doctors said he is expected back in action Friday.

Brazil will play its second warmup against Tanzania on Monday. It will debut in the World Cup against North Korea on June 15.

IRENE, South Africa -- U.S. forward Jozy Altidore has sprained an ankle during a training drill and is day to day.

Altidore hurt his right ankle during a workout on a field with small goals Wednesday, U.S. Soccer Federation spokesman Neil Buethe said. Altidore was taken to a hospital for X-rays and was diagnosed with a mild sprain.

"It's nothing more than that," Buethe said Thursday. "He'll undergo a fitness test tomorrow to determine whether he can play Saturday."

The U.S. faces Australia on Saturday in Roodepoort in the final exhibition for both teams ahead of the World Cup. The Americans open against England on June 12.

North Korea striker will be forced to play in goal

North Korea will be forced to play striker Kim Myong-Won as a goalkeeper during this month's World Cup in South Africa due to a mix-up about the squad.

The team had decided to bolster their attacking options by including the forward in the slot reserved for a third goalkeeper, taking the risk that they would be able to survive the tournament with just two glove men.

But FIFA rules insist that all squads must include three keepers, and that those three players are prohibited from playing in outfield positions.

And with the deadline for the squads to be named having passed, no changes will be permitted except in the case of a serious injury more than 24 hours before a team's first match.

"The three players listed as goalkeepers can only play as goalkeepers during the FIFA World Cup and cannot play outfield," FIFA said in a statement.

"Kim Myong-Won will not be allowed to play as an outfield player if he has been put on the list as a goalkeeper."

coming home from work took a quick snap of kids playin on the streets

IF I took these kids and played them against american kids the same age they probably beast from the way you describe it all you train is drills and fitness, instead of building up ball skills.

why fuck italy and fake ass Ghanaian ballotelli:smh:

Oh trust me, I hate Italian football with a passion. It's is a joke to me. But at the same time it's hard to root for Mexico as a USA supporter. But I guess it's home soil, (reginally speaking ie. concacaf) before anything else, so I guess it's ok.

U.S. confident Altidore will be healthy

image6547408.jpg

IRENE, South Africa -- Goalkeeper Tim Howard and defender Steve Cherundolo are confident injured forward Jozy Altidore will be healthy for the Americans' World Cup opener against England on June 12.

Altidore sprained his right ankle during a training drill Wednesday and missed Thursday's practice. While X-rays were negative, he underwent treatment Thursday night and Friday morning. He will be evaluated later Friday to determine whether he could play Saturday against Australia in Roodepoort in the Americans' last warmup match.

"We all hope Jozy will get better. We think he will," Howard said. "We're not losing sleep over it."

Altidore is considered day to day. The U.S. faces Australia on Saturday in Roodepoort in the final exhibition for both teams ahead of the World Cup.

Didier Drogba Injured During Cote d’Ivoire’s Japan Clash

97586_news.jpg

Didier Drogba failed to last 20 minutes of Cote d’Ivoire’s friendly encounter with Japan, going off injured in the early stages of the match, which was played in Sion, Switzerland.

With only quarter of an hour gone in the game, Drogba was the victim of a heavy tackle from Japanese defender Tulio, leaving him a little dazed. AFP reports that the Chelsea forward was ultimately withdrawn due to an injury to his right arm. CSKA Moscow’s Seydou Doumbia was quickly brought into the frey.

Drogba, who is rated as the third best player in the world by the Castrol Rankings, had already made his influence tell in the early stages of the game, when his free kick was deflected home by Brazilian-born Tulio.

Despite the loss of Drogba, the Ivorians went on to win the game, which was played over three 45 minute periods, 2-0, though they would not relish a trip to South Africa without their recognised star forward.

Rio Ferdinand Suffers Knee Injury In Training

96280_news.jpg

England manager Fabio Capello has revealed that defender Rio Ferdinand has been taken to hospital after sustaining a knee injury in training in South Africa today.

"David James had a little problem with a knee, but no big problems. Barry has started to train with the team. He improves every day and he's getting better and better every moment," Capello told reporters at press conference.

"In the afternoon he's training in the gym with the physio and now he's always with the team.

"Not completely with the team but we have to be careful in every moment because the ankle is really good.

"Another piece of bad news is the last moment of the training. Rio suffered one problem at the knee.

"He has just gone to the hospital for a scan. We hope that it will not be a strong injury."

As for what has caused the injury, there was nothing out of the ordinary.

"It was just a normal tackle in training," Capello added.

Initial reports from South Africa have indicated that the injury might well be ligament damage, in which case Ferdinand could miss the entire World Cup.

Man.. what is going, there is a carnage in these training camps... I wonder how the cold weather in South Africa is going to affect the injuries they are suffering. As you know, this is the winter in the Southern hemisphere right now, and June/July is the coldest time of the year there...
