here's some questions
is mousasi not as good as we thought?
is he as good as we thought but Mo is better?

who else in strikeforce/dream is there for mo to fight?

i think ramp would go to strikeforce and fight him when his ufc contract is done

My assessment is that he is not as good as we thought.

Don't get me wrong, he did great work off his back, some of the best I've ever seen against a great wrestler, but what SHOCKED ME is that Mo was beating him on the feet.

Mousasi did not engage on the feet as much. This did not have anything to do with being taken down as it was happening all night and Mousasi actually seemed comfortable there.

Mo needs to fight any and everybody to build his experience and stamina.

yeah gotta agree

its always strange to see guys fight in different leagues - you have stereotypes that certain leagues are better and that shit gets all blown to hell - guys do bad in pride do great in the ufc, guys that were great in pride do horribly in ufc. Now mousasi, hendo, mo, jake and gil all have rearrranged their images. Mous not so tough(or maybe not so smart), hendo is washed up, mo is gonna be around and great for a long time, jake is a pfp candidate, gil is possibly great unless aoki just aint shit.

Mousasi was NOT SMART AT ALL. When he did go all out he almost KO'd King MO in the 2nd round. I would love to see a rematch to see if he's learned anything. I still think Mousasi can give Machida and Anderson a very tough time.

Jake Shields has BEEN underrated. Undefeated in 5 years ...

Still not completely sold on Gil. He reminds me of Clay Guida with better ground defense.

Yeah i think MOusasi could ko Mo if he just was more active but maybe thats not his game or maybe he wasnt 100%
he's been going through a lot of shit with M1 so maybe his training wasnt right

Gil's epic battles sold me on him - he has krazy heart. I'm a big fan.
Jake's comp is what I always questioned. Not going to sleep in rd 1 made me a believer- he had to be seein 4 or 5 hendos after that
i know mousasi trains in different spots alot - i think he needs a good US team to train with
i think Mo trained real hard for that fight - I wouldnt have thought he'd be training with Nog to get ready or Rashad. I'm not really disappointed even though i was big on mousasi. Im a little sad for Dan but he can heal up and KO mayhem

Mousasi wasn't doing so hot in the stand up. He had no counters whatsoever when Mo was throwing hands...he would just cover up whenever Mo started punching and he wouldn't counter...then Mo realized what Gegard was doing and went for takedowns once Gegard covered up his face b/c Mo realized he couldn't see him shooting when he did that.

Maybe Gegard was rope a doping in order to wear Mo down but Mo was getting takedowns and controlling the ground work....he's young, he's a great wrestler, he's a dangerous striker, he's got a good chin and he believes he's great. Mo might become a legend. I wouldn't be surprised if they do an immediate rematch since there's really nobody worthy and available to challenge Mo for the belt. I actually want this to happen.

Yall might need to calm down on counting Hendo out, right now...he's 40(true) but he hadn't fought in 9 months...he had a back injury...and he had a tough weight cut. The fact that he could go 25 minutes with a cardioholic like Shields is amazing. Who does Shields defend against next, Jacare?

Good shit ... I liked this event better than much of UFC 112.

Thanks for the post-fight clip with dude from AOL FANHOUSE ... he's good people. He guest co-hosted THE MMA SHOW on The Score (and does correspondent work with them too) this past Friday.

I'm just now getting around to seeing the Aoki fight (thanks to the loss of the feed earlier). Wack crowd booing for nothing (same case in the King Mo fight). Shinya was getting really strategic with trying to stick with what has worked in the past, but Melendez really did his homework. I don't get the Shinya hate, but I assume folks are unfamiliar with his brilliant submission skills that Melendez managed to stopped.

Yeah - Shinya seemed to get love during the fighter introductions, but U.S. crowds are mad fickle ... they were probably hoping he'd somehow get the upper hand on Gil' and break his arm and then flip him off like he did that poor muthafucka in 2009 overseas :lol:

He was "tring to standup".What are you talking about?

I mean when he dropped Jake. He went to the ground and that actually helped Jake recover. If he would have stepped back and let the ref make him stand he could have picked him apart and stopped it. But a guy like Dan or anyone isnt going to not jump on an opponent who they think they're about to stop

The very Emotional KING MO!!!!

He deserves the win

Props to King Mo. That human side may endear him to more fans.
Good honest comments.
I doubted Mo's experience and skills but dude definitely deserves that belt. He put in the work for it.
His wrestling comments are pretty telling of why certain people are at the top.

I think most fans here dont know who he is and booed cause he had no standup. I respect Aoki more now cuz he has heart, I know he wanted to quit. He just needs to work on his standup.

 classic Im surprised Cesar wasnt there biting that nigga's ankles

Decent fights last night, though I know CBS and Strikeforce were hoping for more action and at least a KO or 2. All in all, Strikeforce has good fighters and can put on good shows as long as they only have a few events per year.

That said, King Mo showed a lot of heart against Mousasi. Unfortunately, both guys seemed to lack an impressive amount of overall skill in their fight. Not that they aren't talented, they just show major holes in their games. Mo took Mousasi down easily, which exposed Mousasi's complete inability to defend the takedown. Mousasi also lacked an ability to turn up the intensity and take the fight to Mo when necessary. Once they were down, Mo had no idea how to pass the guard. He also, couldn't defend the several hammer fists that Mousasi landed from his back. Luckily, Mo had enough heart and enough of a second wind to manage to take Mousasi down and control him from Round 3 and on. Congrats to Mo on the win but I can't consider either fighter elite light heavyweights.

This also leads me to question those that have been begging to see a Mousasi v. Silva match-up. I think its safe to say that Mousasi wants no part of Anderson. Which in turn means that Strikeforce has no one for Anderson to fight if he were to be cut from the UFC. Like it or not, Anderson needs the UFC as much if not more than the UFC needs him.

The Shields v Henderson fight was interesting in that there was a complete 180 after Round 1. Dan had his chance and just couldn't put Shields away. Then he just couldn't get off his back. Good job by Shields but I'm surprised that he hasn't received the criticism given to GSP in his fight against Hardy. They employed identical strategies and GSP was actually even more successful when doing so. Either way, good job by Shields.

Lastly, all the shit that popped off after the fight was embarrassing. I fuck with the Diaz brothers but they were completely out of line last night. Especially when considering that MMA is still trying to reach main stream support and trying to erase the "animals in a cage" stereo-type. Hopefully CBS will continue to give Strikeforce and MMA a chance.

Na Man.You never let them get up and recover. When you have someone hurt, you have to attack them for the ref stoppage before their head clears.Vitor was excellent at this.If Dan backed off,Jake would have been able to recover without any pressure. The thing that saved Jake was when he got under Dan's leg then when he went for that loose heelhook. That submission attempt was more to get time to recover than it was to actually submit Dan.We've got alot of tough guys on our team, but Gil and Jake are two of the most mentally tough.Their whole game is to work hard to mentally break people.

Lawler vs. “Mayhem” to Headline June 16 Strikeforce in Los Angeles; Lashley and “Cyborg” Also Likely
Posted by Kris Karkoski on Apr 9, 2010 at 8:18 pm ET7 Comments

Robbie LawlerMiddleweights Robbie Lawler and Jason “Mayhem” Miller will likely meet in the main event of a June 16 Strikeforce event at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles that coincides with the annual E3 video game conference, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told the LA Times on Friday.

145-pound women’s champ Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and undefeated heavyweight Bobby Lashley are also expected to be in action on the card, which will air on Showtime.

Lawler (19-5) rebounded from a June loss to Strikeforce champ Jake Shields with a first-round knockout of Melvin Mahoef in January, while Miller returns to action against Tim Stout at “Strikeforce: Nashville” on April 24 following his November loss to Shields.

“Cyborg” (9-1), who had been expected to return to action at a planned June 26 event, won the title with a first-round knockout of Gina Carano last August, then retained the belt in January with a third-round TKO of Marloes Coenen.

After nasal surgery forced him off this month’s “Nashville” card, Lashley (5-0) had been expected to fight at “Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery” in May, but will instead look to remain unbeaten in June. The former WWE star scored a first-round TKO of Wes Sims in his most-recent fight in January.

“Heavy Artillery” on May 15 in St. Louis is headlined by heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem’s first title defense vs. challenger Brett Rogers, while the June 26 is expected to feature the return of top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum.

Strikeforce Roundup: Gegard Mousasi Re-Signs, June 16 Event in Los Angeles Announced
Posted by Kris Karkoski on Apr 17, 2010 at 8:00 am ET20 Comments

Gegard MousasiStrikeforce is making headlines for more than it’s anticipated return to CBS tonight with “Strikeforce: Nashville,” as the promotion has re-signed light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi, while it’s upcoming schedule continues to take shape.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced on Friday that Mousasi (28-2-1), who meets “King Mo” Lawal in one of three title fights on tonight’s card, has signed a two-year, four-fight minimum extension to remain with the promotion.

Coker also announced Strikeforce’s June 16 event in Los Angeles, which is expected to be headlined by a rematch between middleweights Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Robbie Lawler, with heavyweight Bobby Lashley and 145-pound women’s champ Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos also rumored for the card.

According to MMA Fighting, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Joey Villasenor and Kid Yamamoto vs. Federico Lopez are in the works for Strikeforce’s May 15 “Heavy Artillery” event, while Matt Lindland is likely to meet Kevin Casey in the main event of Strikeforce Challengers 8 on May 21 in Portland, Oregon.

That's what Im saying- his head wasnt gonna clear if dan stood back and the ref made him stand up- and he wouldnt have got a chance at the leg lock but like you said and I said nobody is not gonna try to pound out a hurt downed opponent to get the stoppage because its a bjj guy- theyre just gonna react
damned if u do and damned if u dont if the guy is coherent enough to stay alive and is jake shields

can nick fuck with jake when they train? that's somethin i really want to know

My Apology to MMA

Written by Mayhem

Monday, 19 April 2010 06:28

I would like to formally apologize to CBS, Strikeforce, and all fans of mixed martial arts for my role in the events following the Strikeforce: Nashville event. In retrospect, my timing could not have been worse to ask for my rematch with Jake Shields, and I take full responsibility for entering the cage and setting off a chain of events that cast a dark shadow on the sport. I've been a fighter and a fan of MMA for over 12 years, and would never do anything to intentionally tarnish the sport I've given my life to. In the excitement of the moment I let my emotions run high and made a bad choice that resulted in a debacle, for that, I sincerely apologize.
