***** OFFICIAL STRIKEFORCE NASHVILLE thread - Sat. April 17th - Henderson/Shields

Aoki with the pride of the Japanese nation on his shoulders? Too much pressure!
:smh:

I always find it interesting to watch fighters transition from a RING format to a cage or octagon ... always neat to see how people adapt.

I think one of the biggest examples of not adapting too well in recent memory = CRO COP. So feared in Pride ... then so lackluster in recent years in the UFC.

Asian fighters don't win MMA matches...all this time we've been told they can kick so much ass, and it's a lie. :smh:

But seriously, I have yet to see a japanese fighter win outside of Pride...and Lyoto is Brazillian so he don't count.

I guess you haven't seen DREAM then.

Note: There are companies outside of the US that also feature non-Asian fighters where Japanese fighters regularly beat foreign fighters. I don't get how Aoki should be discredited considering he won his current championship by beating a tough foreign fighter to begin with.

here's some questions
is mousasi not as good as we thought?
is he as good as we thought but Mo is better?

who else in strikeforce/dream is there for mo to fight?

i think ramp would go to strikeforce and fight him when his ufc contract is done

:lol::lol:
Aoki is getting beat so far as well...

Melendez is dominating but it only takes one slip one to get Submitted! He needs to just keep swinging and he'll knock Aoki out!

I can't believe it. The usually perfect wrestlingbay is acting up. I'm not seeing any of this Aoki fight :( For those outside of the US, like myself, what stream are you using?

And still you dont have a good feed for the fight:smh:

I use wrestlingbay which always has crystal clear/smooth streams...but the streamer tonight apparently lost his connection after the King Mo fight :( So I'm struggling right now to find another stream. JustinTV is a no go, among others

damn man aoki aint shit

he gonna get off the plane and the imperial executioner is gonna be at the airport waiting on him

Just joking!!!! but the fight is over:yes: Akoi got beat 5/0

where does he train?
yeah i wondered if he hurt mous or just wore him out wrestling - mousasi got the best of the ground but the takedowns look bad and score and he did some good things standing
Yeah cant kick the shit out of a wrestler who will shoot soon as he sees it coming

Trains with Antonio McKee in Orange County.Antonio was a really good wrestler who won but was boring as hell.Lately he has been training with Dean Lister in San Diego as well.Comin up....JAKE SHIELDS....my other teamate is gonna get this huge upset. You heard it here first!

Yes - looking forward to this HENDERSON/SHIELDS

It's all good. Too bad about Aoki. I guess this just wasn't his night. Based on the comments in here it looks like a similar case with BJ Penn in his last fight. The real Aoki, based on his fights prior to this one, didn't show up tonight.

Yup....Aoki is alot more dangerous in a ring.Gil wouldn't be able to put him against the fence which limits his attack. In a ring, they restart you in the middle of the ring which is the best place for a guy on the bottom to be.

Honestly it was a mix of things he had to adapt to.He usually fights in a ring,he usually fights with "grappling pants" which increase friction for his guard game, plus Gil is just a very bad matchup for him(better striker and MUCH better wrestler with excellent takedown defense).

Yeah - it's a whole different world. I've always meant to check but just never gotten around to it ... what are the SPECS like for the size of the rings in PRIDE / DREAM-type organizations, as opposed to the octagon/cage dimensions used in STRIKEFORCE/UFC/WEC/BELLATOR, etc?

It's always tough to tell (as we're given so many camera angles).
