Palm Pre Owners Step This Way

they replaced mine with a refurb and now its starting to do that shit again too

i dont know about the pre

i love it and im starting to hate it too

hmmm, mine isn't that bad. it does it like every 2-3 weeks. Someone said it has something to do with the conductors or something. If it really gets on my nerve, I'm just going to go to the store and address the problem and ask for the newer batteries... thats what a lot of people stated they're doing now.

Other than that, I have no problems with my phone.

Hopefully, the beta version of Precorder shows what you're recording on the screen.

The Pre is a lot more durable then I gave it credit for.

I've dropped this bitch a few times and it has come back on.

Last night was the worst though, i dropped it and the screen was just black but the touch screen still worked for phone calls and to turn off my alarms this morning.

I go to work and pull the bitch out my pocket and the screen was working.

I fucking :dance: right then and there.

I still haven't done the video camera update but halftime is here so I might as well do it now.

ok fellas we finally got s free visual voicemail app

i m installing now, will review later

yeah, they didn't have that nowhere in the description on the catalog.

But there's a way now of using your googlevoice as your voicemail. I heard Sprint waived the fee for callforwarding for this...

precorder works great, tried all the different formats in preferences and nobody can open the videos when I send them or when I try to send them the phone says phone full. overall great app though.

I'm getting random "Unable to establish data connection" errors more often than before now. The message pops up with the only option being to press ok. Seconds after you press ok, the data connection comes back. Anyone else having this happen to them?

naw haven't gotten this.

try open the phone app and go to the settings and select update your network settings... see if that helps.

I just disabled data roaming & update network settings. Let's see if that resolves the issue as well as possibly improving battery life.

I get this 3x a day at least

and im also getting another error message when i try to forward videos

:(:(:(:(:(
Still getting that damn error. Shit be even waking me up in my sleep cuz of that damn notification sound it makes when it drops the connection. It's really starting to piss me off & per what I've seen online, is a growing problem. :angry::angry::angry:

you dont have wifi at the crib? or put the phone in airplane mode?
mine did that shit the other day a few times on the road but it seemed to only occur when there was a hiccup in the connection and evdo was lost and switched to 1x for a minute- popped up an error then switched back to evdo and was quiet. It happens at the crib sometimes if I turn wifi off.

Anybody got issues with GPS ? I took my girls to dinner last night and the reasturant was closed so I pulled out the old pre and did a search found a place and the damned GPS was off by about 1/4 mile got home and tried to locate myself from a known posit.....off by 3 blocks way off. the shit is useless if you can't even get a lock with in a 1/2 block or so.

I have wi-fi at the crib but don't really use it. The error pops up no matter where I am though. Shit is annoying as fuck.

Don't keep returning perfectly good Pres because of the slider shutoff. The issue is the way the battery sits on the horizontal connector. Let me be the first to say that the "fix" works. Take some electrical tape (paper works but could burn), and just wedge it between the top of the battery (right under the pull strip)and push the battery in place. I have had ZERO shutoffs since I did this months ago and I don't have to baby the slide at all.

webOS 1.3.5 to finally kill off app storage limit?
There's no debating it: having 8GB of onboard storage on your phone is great. What's even better, though, is if you can actually use it -- and currently, owners of Palm Pres and Pixis are stuck with an arbitrary limit for curious technical reasons that caps app installations after a couple hundred megabytes and change. Back in the day when the App Catalog had a few dozen submissions, that was fine and dandy -- but these days, owners are staring down the barrel of a selection more than 500 apps deep, so the time's definitely come to put this annoyance to bed. PreCentral is reporting that webOS 1.3.5 will finally kill this one by moving app storage to another partition on the device's memory -- the media partition -- which has about 7GB free on a completely virgin phone. Coincidentally, this is the same partition that gets used when you hook up mass storage mode on a PC, so to prevent unencumbered copying of apps off the device, Palm will allegedly be employing some sort of on-the-fly encryption that keeps apps secure while connected. Next step, Palm: microSD expansion so we can install each and every one of those 500-plus apps. What do you say?

Last night I went into da app store for the 1st time in a hot minute & noticed that there are 800 apps available. The bad thing is that the majority of these apps are either duplicates w/ very slight differences or totally useless apps. That makes it really hard to be patient with Palm :(

Yeah I'm getting upset with that & other things like how I'll get random extra spaces when entering text on the Pre. My shit even powercycled on me twice outta no where.

It's funny that you say that bout Android cuz i've been looking at Android phones as of late too. I'm staying with Sprint though as I know I'll get the most bang for my buck. I did look at a few Android phones as of late though. The Motorola Droid has a horrible keyboard. The keys are like trying to press into cardboard. I like how the HTC Hero felt & was surprised with how good the virtual keyboard was but it might be outdated hardware by the time they get Android 2.0. For now I'm going to try to hold out until the next Sprint Android phone is released.

yeah that may be the move but a brutha on here said the new google phone will be contract free and $30 a month using VOIP via google voice with unlimited minutes

Well we do have video recording /via homebrewing.

But I do feel the same way lately since all these great Android devices are coming out.

I don't think Sprint is getting the Google Phone since its already been stated it a GSM device. They said Verizon turned it down (i guess since they invested so much in the Droid devices), so for them to make a CDMA version just for sprint would be pointless.

The Android devices that Sprint has now are cool...I need a keyboard, I am not dealing with virtual ones anymore. So the Hero isnt a option. I heard the Moment is pretty good tho, my partner got it.

But with all these Snapdragon CPU devices coming out, I'm going to wait what else is next.

I was looking at the Moment too but I heard the battery life on it is just as bad as the Pre's.

sj808, I do suggest you play with the virtual keyboard on the Hero cuz I felt the same way you do now til I actually played with it & came away very impressed. The lack of flash on da camera & a better display is holding me back from the Hero.

It's sad that I'm starting to feel this way cuz I really like WebOS but the annoyances are starting to grow little by little. Don't get me wrong I still luv this phone coming from using the TouchPro & dat dreaded WM6.1 debacle but Palm isn't doing enough to secure my confidence.

I feel exactly the sameway. Its a great device and OS but it seems like Palm is being lazy and doesn't realize that their competition keeps on stepping it up. For the fact that video recording isn't on the phone stock and the device isn't even using the GPU yet is quite annoying. Video recording is standard on all mobile devices now... If they have the device use the GPU, it could speed up things a bit and let a load off the processor.

Because of those 2 things, we will continue to get a bunch of redundant apps. Mine you too, that SDK is limited already and not letting developers take advantage of certain things... like where is a voice recorder?

They have already announced that the Google phone is getting a multi-task interface (Cards) like Web OS's... as well as the iPhone. Once that happens, Web OS is done.. to me thats was the only advantage that they had over the other phones. The cards and gestures are great... but its not enough.

****EDIT****

They said Palm lost like $85 million last quarter.. I wonder why...:rolleyes:

:eek: Wait did you say Android is gonna be getting the multi-task interface similar to what we have on WebOS? Oh it's a wrap for everyone if that happens. I'll get an Android phone the next day once that is confirmed & available to the general public. :yes:

And Palm is definitely starting to act like Microsoft in that they have a mobile OS that scares the competition but aren't capitalizing on it. WebOS changed the game whether anyone wants to cosign or not. Palm is fucking up by not continuing to up the ante. As a result WebOS may die before it even escapes infancy. :smh:

Damn the last few comments just made the decicion for me to NOT get a palm pre...damn...Palm failed again....with such great promise. I hope they can somehow turn it around cause WebOS is a beast...

yeah its a rumor... but wouldnt be suprised if they do it. iPhone already has something like it for their browser, so for them to implement it to the rest of the system would be wise.

CEO Jon Rubinstein just confirmed that webOS 1.3.5 is coming soon and will have a bevy of improvements, including:

* Allowing for installation of more apps
* Enhances WiFi and app performance
* Improved battery life

Palm has (finally!) gone public with Project Ares, which is a development platform for webOS that exists entirely in a browser. You can simply fire up your browser and go to http://ares.palm.com/, sign in with your developer account, and get coding.

Ares includes

* Complete integrated development environment
o Drag-and-drop interface builder
o Code editor
o Visual debugger
o Log viewer
o Source control integration
* Fingertip access to the full library of Mojo UI widgets
* Push-button project & scene creation
* Drag-and-drop file upload
* Instant project upload & download for seamless desktop/cloud workflow
* Preview apps in the browser
* Run apps directly on the webOS emulator or device (requires SDK installation)
* Use Ares in Safari, Chrome or Firefox

Palm's hoping this is the future of mobile development for webOS. We're hoping that Palm can build in some developer collaboration tools and App Catalog submission tools. Ok, never mind our complaints, Ares looks like a great tool for developers.

Palm fucked up by not getting all the main shit on the phone finished before it shipped i pretty much lost my patients with palm but I know its all coming its just taking a little longer then I think it should but they were under the gun when they shipped the pre.

I am gonna get a hero but still hold on to my pre by the time webos gets to 2.0 with a real sdk and gpu accesses i think it will kill android. Palm has way to many talented new hires in the last 7 or 8 months from Apple, ATI/AMD, Mozilla to at least give em a few more months to get their shit together.

It really is. I think their next phone should be a candy bar phone either all touchscreen or with a slide-out keyboard like the TouchPro or Moment. The slider design is dated & just not convenient when working with WebOS. Palm & Microsoft must have some of the same people working for them because it seems like they're content with using dated designs on new products. If Palm was to update its hardware to meet up with the current standards as well as address WebOS's current shortcomings then they can definitely compete with Android & iPhone better than they are now.

I agree I want to see something in the design of the Hero or Nexus from Palm or even a horizontal slider like the Droid with a big sharp screen.

Both the Pre and the Pixi were designed when Ed Colligan was still in charge, Jon Rubinstein (former head of Apples Mac and Ipod division) took over as CEO and chairman in June so I would like to see the first phone Palm puts out with him in full control

That being said even though im not a big fan of vertical slider and most tech nerds probably aren't, there are still alot of people who like the design and make a big issue out of one handed use with a physical keyboard. Its pretty much Palms base at this point
