its a lcd screen and in defective/shitty ones light bleeds or leaks at the edges
on my pre i had bleeding all along the bottom and up the right side - alot a people on precentral have it too
I got all my money back with no restocking fee. I hear they aint replacing pre's over this unless it really bad too. That fuckin sucks.
When I buy a new one in a few days Im gonna be checkin for all the problems. Im tempted to order over the phone again since people are gettin that my circle deal - 3-5 numbers that dont count against your minutes - one dude got a fav 3 and that airrrave free for two years

just save them to your phone - hook your phone up in usb mode and copy them over then go to the screen app and pick it out

How To: Preview Email in List View on the Pre

Anyone intersted in a little email preview action? Forum member imop45 discovered [also noted at jkOnTheRun] that you can use a multitouch gesture to preview emails without opening them. It's a little tricky to do, but we found the most reliable way is to anchor one finger at the top of the screen and then slide down on the email you want to expand with your other finger. Zoom far enough, you can even preview the entirety of the message, all without ever actually opening it. Pinching inward (like you're zooming out) will return you back to the basic list view.
Update: as our genius commenters note, it's actually easier than we thought, per wynand32
An easier method is to perform the gesture _across_ the message. That is, start in the middle of the message and pinch out to the edges. Pinch in from the edges to minimize. That seems to work better than trying to pinch up-down or diagonally.
We were about to say that we would add it to our list of undocumented features in webOS 1.1, but DuStU has been using this trick since launch day.
Since it's a little difficult to achieve, we can understand why Palm isn't exactly shouting from the rooftops about it. One thing we can't understand: why the very useful Palm Pre landscape email trick is still stuck in "enter a secret word" land instead of being an option in the preferences.
So Palm OS is definitely fast and stable?
I was very close to coping one but Palm has many so many disastrous decisions i thought Pre would be their next flop.

WebOS - is the truth. Its linux based. There are more than 60 apps out now almost all free.
30 something in the app store and 30 something in homebrew. Its linux and you can run alot of linux server stuff on it if you wanted.
Its faster and better than anything out there. That includes the iphone. Iphone only does one app at a time- the Pre multitasks.
Verizon announnced they will have it next year.
Different phones are coming out with WebOS on it later this year.

Alright im having some trouble with my pre. I cant send emails from this secure email account I have for school. But receiving emails is more than fine. Every time I try to send something I get an error message. anyone have this issue?
what kind of account is it? sounds like your port/authentication method for outgoing mail on that account is wrong
i used the fact that the PRE doesnt work with live@edu mail servers as the reason to return my phone and no 35 buck restock fee
palm knows the shit dont work and wont do shit - my university's mail servers were all switched to live@edu from exchange - microsoft is givin the shit to schools for free - so is google theyre all battlin it out
make sure the correct authentication method tls ssl is used and the right port number

So I went back to best buy to exchange my Pre with the dead pixels. Got a new one with no hassle by the way, and luckily they had just gotten 3 new ones in that morning.
Before I turned it in, I wiped it so that none of my accounts were on there. Then I realized, DAMN I just put this chick's number in my phone...
Don't you know when I got the new pre, they activated the phone, i had to login to my palm account... then just like that all of the contacts I had entered before my wipe plus the apps I had downloaded from the appstore were all back INCLUDING the chick's number.
That's the way shit is supposed to happen. Seamless. I wanted to do the damn icky shuffle in the store I was so happy.

Yeah. They charge something like an $18 activation fee.
The way I do it is to go to the website on your phone. zoom in on the image that you want so it fills the screen and do a screen capture (orange button + "sym" button + "p") go to your images under screen capture and you can set as web browser.
Yeah... that full erase, soft erase and backup/restore feature are beautiful! I can remember sitting down and typing in numbers for hours when I switched phones.
You literally walk in to best buy or the sprint store, buy the phone, they activate it on the spot and you walk out with a fully functional phone, address book, etc all instantly ready to go.
Flawless victory... and I still havent tried any homebrew stuff yet.
See I was waiting on Omnia 2 to drop, but now i'm not even sure if it will be on Verizon or not. Supposedly a slew of android phones are coming out this fall. I need to make my way down to a sprint store to play around with this pre b/c Verizon supposed to have it early 2010.
