Oh Great.

Another X-Men title.

This shit has got to stop.
This is my MAJOR problem with comics today.
The over-saturation of titles from one character/group.

There are just too many DAMN X-titles on the market.
Just like Batman, Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc.

You only need a few titles for stories to be told.

And though I love Chris Claremont's older X-Works,
I just feel this is a sympathy move from MARVEL.
Especially after Dave Cockrum's death.

Any of you guys hear or read about this? (could be interesting, or conversely more marvel BS)

Claremont's X-Men Return Forever
Chris Claremont discusses picking up his seminal X-Men run after an 18-year absence.
by Jesse Schedeen

This is the whole problem with the entire X-Universe. Chris Claremont's original run was the shit. It was the best run on X-Men period. besides Morrison's run, nothing else could touch it. It seems like the past few years they've been trying to recreate that magic and failing miserably. Morrison was the only one imo whole took a whole diffent take on the characters and made it work. everyone else, including Claremont, has been trying to redo his original run instead of finding new ground......................

Try Indie books like "The End League" and "The Boys"

Hey Fam,

Hitting up bgol because my website, www.popcultureshock.com really REALLY needs comic book reviewers who can write. we're doing VERY brief reviews and overviews (word count is LESS than 250) of new and upcoming comics.

Here's the spin: we're not promoting shit we don't like. Basically, we're doing our site based around the premise that we LOVE this stuff, and there's no point in tearing down books that we don't like, rather, build up books that we love.

In order to engage new fans, we're doing video 'reviews', video 'previews', and most importantly, "The Story So Far..." which is a brief, under 2 minute (200 word), smartly and humorously written 'recap' of recent events in any given book to bring new readers up to speed so that ANYBODY can walk into a comic shop and pick up the most recent issue and know what's going on.

PopCultureShock.com covers games, anime/animation, comics, and movies/tv. We're building up our video coverage of content to encompass all of those areas, so we're really going to need people to pitch in.

Before you ask, no, we don't have any cash yet. We're relaunching (although we've been around for years), but we're a former fan-site that's making the transition into the world of profit. Our goal is to do to be competitive and eventually more attractive than larger sites that do this stuff with a full staff. Currently, we're a small, but focused and hardcore team.

What we're asking for from those of you who are interested, are quick text reviews/previews. Again, smartly-written, short and concise, conscious of word count. All regular contributors will regularly get credit, and if you're down, we can even work out discounts for trades at shops like Midtown Comics - who has an online ordering avenue.

Speaking of trades, that's what we'd like to cover the most. Trades are the most easily accessible to mainstream folks.

So basically, if you're interested, we'll need stuff every week. Hit me up, and check out the site to get an idea of how the content will appear in our video coverage. We recently did an overview of the comic, The Sword. We'd like future stuff to be even shorter, but more frequent.

Get at me directly. Hope to hear from some of you. The images on the site come directly from the scans that have been posted here for years.

Yeah, I"ve been coming here for a minute...

Peace Fam,

Hope to hear from some of you...

What did you do in the industry? And what other trends did you notice while there did you think were bad bad for the industry as a whole?............................

I worked for DarkHorse Comics doing shipping/receiving, and worked a few of owner Mike Richardson's comic stores in Oregon during the 90s.

Bad trends:

Speculation:
First and Foremost, these books are really nothing but pieces of paper. Speculators places higher prices on books that literally caused feeding frenzys. Which led to...

Multiple Covers:
The Embossed, The Platinum, The Gold, The cover pieces forming a poster (after you had to buy at least 5 copies of the same issue), etc.

SweatShop Artwork:
In-House Artists whose styles are "trained" to look almost the same. The Rob Liefeld school of Comic Art. Liefeld is a really nice guy though. Everybody was trying to adopt that Image-style of art back then.

Multiple story arcs/Crossovers:
Now why should anyone have to buy titles that they normally don't read in order to follow a major storyline? Not even counting the costs?

Those were the main reasons i stopped reading comics in the 90's, I just couldn't afford it!
And judging from the way the industry took a nosedive I wasn't the only one.

It was like they started putting out comics exclusively for collectors and forgot about the comics READERS.

I only read comics online now so i'm not sure if they have gotten any better with the insane covers, but it seems like All of the companies have adopted the Multiple story arcs/Crossovers way of thinking.

I also see a trend of unnecessary titles. (Trinity, Batman, Superman, Wolverine, X-Men titles)

I remember those years. The artists were running Marvel and people were trading comics like stock. Hell even my moms bought five copies of the death of Superman thinking she was going to cash in . what I've been seeing in the last few years is the movie boom. Since comics have become successful on the big screen, companies have taloring them more for that medium than trying to make a good comics. the multicrossover thing is a pain because it never happens organically. Valiant comics did this the best when Jim shooter was running things back then. this was the only instance where the cocept of a shared universe worked seamlessly imo. the big event thing is starting to get annoying too...........................
