Maybe he thought tha hardcore Knicks of the 90's were still there.
You know if Kobe ends up scoring 70 on the Bulls, Igizz will be up in here acting like he beat Micheal.
Kobe is great, but I still wouldn't even put him up there with Magic.
Fuck you - different teams, different era
I wonder if they chanted MVP MVP MVP for MJ that night
Yeah he gets his props. But he's not the GOAT. So calm yo ass down.
Igizzle, I've been a Kobe fan since '95. He wasn't even out of high school at that point, but I saw him play, and believe it or not, I predicted his future greatness THEN, and everyone thought I was insane.
However...
As great as Kobe is, Jordan is a more reliable franchise player. It's not that Jordan has never had bad games, and didn't have to struggle to ascend to the top of the NBA food chain, but Jordan's mentality is more stable than Kobe's. You know, first and above all else, Jordan wanted to win. I've seen Kobe give up on his team, or carry out secret agenda's on the court, where he wouldn't shoot the ball. Case-in-point, for as great of a defender as Tayshaun Prince is, Kobe Bryant tanked that finals. I have every last one of those games recorded, so I know what I'm talking about. Every time Kobe drove on Tayshaun, he scored. Kobe drove very little to the basket, however.
Kobe is the man of a million pump-fakes. I've never seen anyone who will twist, up-fake, and literally do anything he can imagine to get himself a clean look at the basket - but against Tayshaun, all he did was stand there, and just pull up for jumpers. No pump faking, no nothing. Tayshaun is too long for that, and Kobe knew that before he ever made it to the finals.
Also, against the Sacramento Kings, Kobe froze himself out of the offense, because it was said he was shooting too much. So, he passed the ball like he was the 10th man, and Shaq ended up yelling at him about shooting. Gary Payton was like, 'Kobe! Man get into the offense!" Kobe was like, "I got that on my radar." and proceeded to do exactly what they didn't want him to do...
I believe Kobe's dream was to be the man on the Lakers, and if the Lakers WON the championship, what would have been the point of breaking the team up?? Now, I think Shaq helped HIMSELF get shipped out of Los Angeles with his contract demands, but Kobe definitely helped to sink that team, making it less likely that the Lakers would bring everyone back.
Kobe CAN play team ball when he wants to(Kobe can do A LOT of things when he wants to. His recent streak of double-digit assists and triple doubles are proof), but he MAY always be a single-minded, me-first player, in my opinion. His talent will allow him to appear as if he's playing team ball, but I've seen this dude long enough to know that his dream, more than anything, was to be a one man show. He wants to win, but he wants to do it while he's dropping outrageous amounts of points as well...
The problem is, Kobe miscalculated how difficult it would be to become the G.O.A.T. Jordan had a much better shot selection than Kobe, and ultimately a better shooting percentage. Kobe is just fascinated with his own skill and athleticism, and refuses to just do what he does best. He HAS to do the spectacular. Perhaps as he get's older, and can no longer do what he's doing, he'll settle for efficiency over style...
So, yeah ... like you, I'm a Kobe Bryant. I've worn the jerseys(I ain't doing that shit anymore), I watch the games, and I've followed his career closely since day 1. However, Kobe Bryant is not Michael Jordan. Kobe is amongst the most elite scorers in NBA history, but his me first attitude, and his unwillingness to choose efficiency over style, will place him below Jordan at the end of his career.
But, hey ... how many dudes have had the next-Jordan hype placed on them, and still maintained a high level of play through out there career? Kobe is the only one to manage that, I feel.
This is a very intelligent analysis.
Kobe can ball...no doubt. Yet he is a fraud in the "best ever" role.
How many dudes have the Next Jordan hype placed on them? A lot. (Miner, Grant Hill, Vince Carter, Lebron)
There is no next Jordan.
The next person to come along should make their own legacy.
Damn...wtf...i swear its some dumb asses on here. You said he's not the GOAT---I DID NOT SAY HE IS THE GOAT...where did that even come from? Maybe you're scared that he will be the GOAT but nobody I repeat NOBODY can be the GOAT when they are still in the league and didnt even retire once
ESPN.com poll. which performance @ madison square garden was more impressive? tobe bryant's 61 (37%) or mj's 55 (63%)? tobe has never won an espn poll against mj.
...
Negro, please. People just hate on Kobe and most don't even know why. It's just the thing to do. I've asked numerous people why they don't like Kobe, and I'm always getting a different answer...
People are just followers.
But, back to the topic at hand...
Now THAT'S a dunk!
Who in this thread discredited kobe? Don't pull a officer ricky and get all sensitive cause no one is cosigning the OP. Kobe is an amazing talent hands down he is the best player in the league today, but to give him goat status is madness. I'll judge Kobe's career when he calls it quits. I swear stans is fucking the game up![]()

espn.com featured poll 2 of 10. which is the more important lakers-related story? tobe bryant breaks MSG record with 61 points (17%) or andrew bynum out 8-12 weeks (83%)?
...however, no one else hung 61 on 'em despite the fact that they've sucked for awhile. If it's nothing to brag about, then someone else would have done the same, or better by now...
FUCK STATS
Just watch who is better
plain and simple
fair observation, but i disagree with the conclusion.
it's true the knicks have been below league average in points allowed this entire decade (with the sole exception of 2000-01), so they've been pretty poor defensively.
but it's also true that the knicks are basically playing euro ball, giving up even more points per game than last year, and at roughly the same opponent FG% (.475)
and to surmise that another player "would have done the same, or better by now" is not reasonable, because other players are classier and understand the game better than tobe.
i don't expect the fan boys or stans to know it, but tobe continued to shoot in the 2nd half against coach jackson's instructions last night. tobe was gunning for a record, and that's disgraceful.
i also don't expect the fan boys or stans to be honest enough to admit it, but surely someone on BGOL who ACTUALLY WATCHED THE GAME will be man enough to admit that tobe's scoring WAS KEEPING THE KNICKS IN THE GAME, not widening the gap.
in the end, good scoring night, fakers got a W. still not better than bernard king.
Bryant scored seven of the first eight points for the Lakers, 13 of the first 16, and after finishing the first half with 34, Coach Phil Jackson, the party-pooper who kept him in an earlier game from scoring 90, talked to him.
"I told him to get everyone involved," Jackson said, "which didn't happen."
And the fans couldn't have been more pleased. Bryant -- in other games, the facilitator, sometimes not taking a shot for long minutes at times -- on this night played as if he had just read the record book and had one goal in mind.
hold up lil dick rider
kobe is a bad man
but MJ did it against the real knicks teams, who played real D
