The Official Obama Debate Thread (Mods Pls Sticky!!)

The Black Tax.
A very real issue that should not be ignored. It is very thoroughly ingrained into the ethographical fabric of this country and manifests itself in real life as well as through subtle cultural symbolisms. No need to expatiate on this.

As a brotha that works in research and development, in an industry completely dominated by Caucasians I deal with this shit every-fucking-day I step into the office.

Recently, during a global conference call with a bunch of egotistic egg-headed predominantly white muhfukas, I posed a question to the scientist giving the seminar, regarding the practicality of the precision of a data he presented. I got a vague response. I asked the question again. Another McCain ass response. I was about to ask it again and was interupted by a senior scientist who attempted to answer my question on his behalf but with subtle undertones of "keep it moving ******".
And for a split second, its struck me: "dude, you're walking on egg shells here. Remeber, you're one of the only two brothas at this position in a corporation of over 10,000 employees. you still gotta pay my cable bill." I let it go.

Black Tax.

As frustrating as it was for us [Obama supporters] to watch Obama appear rather lax and not as visceral as we would have liked him to be, we fail to realize that this guy is several chess moves ahead of the status quo. This has been extensively exemplified in his campaign strategy thus far. (Obama v Hillary, case in point)

"Relax muhfukas. I got this shit."

just goes to show that most women have no clue what manhood is about.

Obama hasn't turned his back on Black folks just because he's not pandering to the least common denominator. the man isn't running to be president of Black folks, and has made no specific address to ANY individual ethnic group.

in this he shows wisdom. his address on race should've deaded any feelings of Black abandonment anyone has.

Agreed, and lord knows a lot of these sistas aint no Michelles...

cosign.
I wouldn't have put it so nicely.

In my opinion, Obama has not carried himself like a man in a lot of his campaigning. He has had to turn his back on Blacks in order to succeed in his campaigning... I mean lets keep it real... in order for Obama to seriously go after the presidency he had to sell his soul to the white man and become a puppet to their ideals.

Look at his demeanor now as he debates it doesnt match with what he is spewing out. I'm not knocking him... but I don't agree with a lot of things he has done.... however as a black woman I will support him.

Please don't say most women, or even some. Kitty is definitely representing her own personal views in this thread. No woman has co-signed her, and I highly doubt any woman reading this thread even agrees with her. Her comments don't represent what the majority of the black women I know feel about Obama and his behavior in this campaign...just wanted to clear that up. Don't lump us all together.

Whenever a political figure is wreckless enough to announce that he thinks Putin is KGB on GLOBALLY BROADCAST television coverage…we cannot afford as a nation to give him the power to act on is feelings. McCain is a dangerous old man and cannot be given power to act.

If he were elected we would be in a world war by the middle of his first term…he is already laying the groundwork. What is even more scary is the fact that he is too riddled with cancer to live through the war he begins and our nation would be stuck with Palin who cannot even answer a question in an interview with Couric. Wake up America…run from this while we still have the chance. NO MORE BUSH and that means NO MCCAIN/Palin

Damn... that shit was pretty reckless.

Especially with his grill already looming over the hemisphere...

Fuckin w/ Putin is like fuckin w/ ZOD.

As a techie, I was impressed when Barack said we need broadband lines reaching into rural areas. That's something McOld would never say.

Repubs don't want people in the sticks getting any real information.

A debate can never be judged by who won or lost....it is an oppurtunity for those undecided voters to get a clearer picture of the candidates...Obama realizes there are more debates and folks are not going to remember this debate as much as how the candidates presented themselves...McCain realizes that all the newly registered voters nation wide are registered because of Obama...McCain has to appear presidential by being aggressive and it is not going to work...there are more debates coming and McCain and Palin will continue to slide....Obama realizes it is important to project a conciliatory stance when dealing with your opponent...the old ways of in your face get off my planet are gone forever...Why is his manhood being attacked? Walk a mile in his shoes...Folks need to stop projecting all of their disappointment with their lives onto him....he is not responsible for your failures...get the message and rise up for a new day...we have a lot of work to do...

Actually there are even more males who have no clue what manhood is about...

And to nip one thing in the bud... I am not someone who is expecting handouts from Obama on the strength that he is black... however when I pictured having a black president... I pictured someone who didnt deny his race. Its one thing to ignore... but he seems to have no problem making speeches that condemn black men, telling them how they should be carrying themselves... blah blah blah I need to go find the transcript of that speech he made on fathers day. It totally rubbed me the wrong way, in the light that it was presented. If you can present your views on what blacks are doing wrong... present them on whites as well.

In any event at the end of the day I am voting for him... but I don't have to pretend to agree with him.

Agreed, and lord knows a lot of these sistas aint no Michelles...

If I were to write a list of all the people I know across the US, and from that list select the women who represent michelle type quality an the men who represent obama type quality

the michelles would outnumber the obamas.

Arent you the same girl that was beefing with me on SOL in regards to Michelle being an honorary AKA?!

Yea, you right I hold down my own opinions just like you hold down your own.... since when are you the voice for all the women on BGOL?! You reminding me of McCain now :smh:

There are 3 types. The third are people like me who understand completely that Obama is a politician. He plays politics. However his stance on the issues and plans compared to McCain make far better sense for this country. Do I think he'll follow up on every campaign promise? Hell no. No politician ever does. Are these things he does or will do that I won't agree with, hell yeah. Barack getting elected also will mean that this country has finally awaken from it's apathetic slumber and started to pay attention to the political issues.

As for Obama "running" from his blackness as some people say...let's be honest, most of us do. When we are at work are we the same militants we are in the barbershop or beauty shop. Hell no.

got-damn, some truth. this whole argument is very "lola"-esque. :smh:

*sighs* I'm not saying he gotta be on some black panther type shit... but can I see him say one positive thing in regards to black people?!

If yall can produce one time when he was mentioning blacks in a positive light then I will dead this argument an go back to dipping my head back in the sand.

I tend to agree with your first point, but there was strategy in this too. It was very reminiscent of Bill Cosby (and others), but I think he handled it rather well in comparison.

On your second point, he absolutely cannot afford to to that! That would be the kiss of death for his campaign. Hicks in east bumblefuck would flock in droves to keep Obama out of office. Keep in mind who is still running shit...for now.

Fair enough... as a black woman (2nd in command) I will follow in line with this... but I will have the last word dammit... I don't agree with this, we do not have our first black president we have our first black puppet.:hmm:

Aiight I'm done.

Thank you for honesty and intelligent response...

With that being said, I would think that you understand human mistakes, thereby making the fact that your response to my initial statement an issue of you either being nitpicky or just being something else worse (I won't say)

Now, as I would never consider myself a sage or the like, however, I had the chance to work in DC on K-Street with a lobbying group, hence my mention of my background. I have had the chance to work with Senator's and see how that process works as far as debates and the like are concerned......

Enjoy the debate......
You worked on K Street? That must have been before the cops cracked down on panhandling along that corridor.

It's your prerogative to interpret whatever you want about dude. While you chose to interpret his speech on Father's Day as condescending and towards black men in America - as a black man in America who identifies with Barack's background and life story, I saw a man very much concerned with the challenges his fellow brothers go through every day. Yet disappointed (and not in a dismissive way) with the irresponsibility some of us display in the choices we make.

It's not so much what you say, but what you do.

Remember, politics is is like chess. Its a game of tactics and strategy. Victory can be achieved with out necessarily compromising your values and integrity, but some pawns gotta go. Don't be so quick to judge.

Just my thoughts.

you are not an expert on men and do not know what men think about manhood.

there is no proof Obama has ever denied his race. the idea that you think this proves that you're delusional.

[flash]http://www.youtube.com/v/pWe7wTVbLUU[/flash]

nobody cares what you agree about.

you're taking yourself too seriously...and you know what, i'm taking you too seriously as well.

If I were to write a list of all the people I know across the US, and from that list select the women who represent michelle type quality an the men who represent obama type quality

the michelles would outnumber the obamas.

I highly doubt that since the non-Obamas are being raised by non-Michelles, so your argument flies in the face of logic.

As does your anger towards Black men, obviously.

Furthermore, the fact that you dont know a lot of Obamas reflects poorly on YOU and YOUR judgment and associations, not on black men.

By the way, since the Father's Day speech rubbed you so wrong, how about you read up on this and show some commitment to making an informed vote?

http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=democrats_find_their_footing_on_fatherhood

Democratic insiders point to the Responsible Fatherhood and Healthy Families Act, introduced this year by Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana and co-sponsored by Obama, as the policy vision behind the fatherhood plank of the Democratic platform. The bill has yet to make it out of the finance committee, but if it's enacted, it would represent a major step forward...

One of the major adjustments of Obama and Bayh's Responsible Fatherhood Act is that it prohibits state and federal government from taking money from child-support payments -- what is essentially a "tax" on a parents' earnings -- and ensures that all of it goes to the family. It also expands the Earned Income Tax Credit to provide an additional credit for non-custodial parents who keep up on their payments, thus encouraging fathers to keep legitimate jobs and avoid the underground economy...

In addition, the Obama-Bayh bill addresses the issue of incarceration. The legislation prevents the government from treating time spent in prison as "voluntary unemployment," a practice that can leave a parent re-entering society with a mountain of child-support debt based on his or her income prior to incarceration. The bill sets aside federal grants for transitional jobs and prisoner re-entry programs. The Justice Center, a think tank focused on criminal justice, estimates that more than 7 million children may have a parent in prison or jail, or under parole or probation supervision. The bill also requires each state to review and make adjustments for debt of men who were incarcerated or otherwise unemployed when the debt was accumulated.

Dont talk about it, BE about it. Cause right now you are playing yourself.

*sighs* I'm not saying he gotta be on some black panther type shit... but can I see him say one positive thing in regards to black people?!

Good debate, I knew Obama would win. Look at the polls too.

I am looking forward to see Joe Biden show Palin's stupid ass whats what. He doesn't need to attack her (and he can't, they'll say he was sexist :hmm:) just let her self destruct in her own foolishness and lack of understanding. All he has to do is ask Gov. Palin to repeat the question because it was perhaps 'not clear enough' and she's having to go and try to explain her rehearsed scripted lines... Hillary would also rip her apart if given the chance. This is going to be entertaining, I'll need a drink.

wont hurt for her to work on her dancing a bit

Have you seen Obama dance? He got no kind of rhythm. He got that from his white gene

All in all... its the best presidential debate I've ever watched. Both of these guys were better than last three shitbags (Bush Gore Kerry.) Fuck McCain, but damn its good to see an opponent not as dumb as Bush.

Don't be shitting on Gore.

Whoa what in the hell are you talking about? If I was angry towards black men I wouldnt be voting for him. You on some other shit, over thinking things.

Like I said I am voting for him but I dont agree with him 100%. Now let this thread die already... I am already focused on the upcoming VP debate.

Thats like white women saying "If I were racist, I wouldnt vote for Obama!" then clutching their purse when a young black kid steps in the elevator.

You know damn well you dont consider Obama the typical black man just based on your own snide remark about "I know way more Michelles than Obamas"

My point about your anger stands. You want the thread to die cause you cant admit you were posting some bullshit.

BTW even if you have decided to vote, by assassinating Obama's character you may be costing him votes. Legit criticism is cool, but casting aspersions at his blackness?

You need to come with a better argument.

Whatever, you still read the knowledge, you have to live with your own cognitive dissonance, not me.

yo are we keepin this thread up for tonite's debate or you startin a fresh one?

its goin down tonite
