For real, im checking on my little potfolio all day and reading financial news i never cared bout befor. I'm long on all these but im still living and dying with every penny.

Did anyone buy that TMA stock yesterday. It jumped up another 116% to day. I got in late at 2.40, this morning and it got to 3.35 in an hour. I spent $1000 on it.

The stock movement defies sense but I am only speculating.

You mofo's have inspired me to do something I've been talking about doing for the past 8 years!

I opened a ShareBuilder account, and started it with $1,000 in the account.

I am looking forward to the Visa IPO next week, as well as a few other things here and there. (Yes, I know i am only starting with $1,000 in the account....give me some time to get use to it ... and comfortable!)

This needs to be a sticky topic! Let's keep the momentum going!

No hurry, start with little steps and you'll get the feel of it:yes::yes:

Co-signed....
Back in Feb,after reading this thread I opened up an account with Bank of America specifically for the free trades.
Copped 10 shares of GLD @ 90.83 to get my feet wet.Its been fairly steady.
Then a few weeks later I copped 224 shares of PAL @ 8.66 then said "fuck it" and bought another 1000 shares @ $8.51.Was tempted to buy a few more when it got down to $6.30 but got cold feet.I noticed that now the BUSINESS section is the first part of the paper I read and my homepage is now MSNMONEY.I have my stock tickers on that page and regularly check their prices.

Got in today @3.22, not sure where this thing is headed, last week they said they couldnt meet some margin calls and it tanked this week its rebounding like crazy.

this is the first stock im planning on make a quiuk flip on if it gets to 5.50, unless some one can give me a reason why it will get back into the double digits.

I am very pleased to see so many of the fam taking more control over their finances by starting to invest.

I'm in a holding pattern right now with most of my regulars (BIDU, TGB, GRMN, AAPL, ETFC). I've been really busy with my consulting/training business so I haven't been able to trade as frequently as usual. That's probably a good thing, because it keeps you from making stupid decisions when the market turns south.

When things calm down next week, I'll post some new picks with some analysis for each (as always). Keep coming with the picks, fam, I've made some good money on some of them.

Continued props to Pop, Kaya, and others for dropping the knowledge to the fam.

My play list today was RIMM, DRYS, AMZN, & JOYG once again my strategy was short term scalping - + momentum plays anywhere from 1 - 20 min holds depending on the profit. Hand sizes 500 - 800 shares. 70% short hands 30% buys. Got a few points. I love this type of market its SO PREDICTABLE!

Wow! This is really turning into a community(or cult). Personally I think right now is a great time to get into the stocks. Just like the best time to buy real estate in Miami was when people was getting shot up on the beach. The market is bloody as hell right now. America is on sale!
Again props to Trip for the thread and Pop, Kay and all contributors. Get wealthy!

Yeah the next test for the market is to not retest the double bottom. Now if it does & goes through that, the next stop is dow 10,000! My advice to any traders & investor is to stay liquid & adapt will quick $trategy wise. Learn the stocks you fucks with behavior in this whipsaw market, so you'll be able to Cut em up, & Cut em down.

Man, it's always been my vision to master the art of the flip, but oftentimes when you buyin, you get caught in a sudden downdraft in the price, that's why i tend to more invest than trade, I trade in short patterns, say a 1 week or a couple day hold.If you can cop a quick $G or so, you take it off the table & keep it moving. I've just not gotten the quick in & out mastered, I see gains & i'm thinkin, ok maybe this is a multi day run, & then there's a selloff..I see you're right with THIS market, its about a lil quick push and a pullback..so when good stocks go down, get them, then they will be the first to shoot back up...

Right now I've pared my holdings down, got POT/PAL/PAL+/& COIN for pure Risk play..Will likely enter into TNH as i like the low volume/share structure IT produces some nice $/% movements..

One of the Board's pick TGB has been doin nicely...$5.85, i had a small holding, but sold it off...will see for reentry..

MAn i remeber looking at DRYS soon after it hit the market, it was floundering at round 19.oo then went south, Always thought the biz they had was great, sometimes you got to say you let your research down by not making a move when you saw great prospect...but that suckr has down real well for its holders..

The truth is a trader will make his gains, but the only true way to beat this game is to get lucky on a LONG position over a muylti year stretch...somethign like POT/MOS over 5 yrs..that's when you get the multi-baggers..but you got to hold good solid companies in they infancy....those are what we should be tryin to find,.,,keep the hustle flowin,,i wonder what the total tally in gains for the board has been,,,

Thats what Im talking about! Getting in early on that AAPL that RIMM that POT that MVL and hopefully.....that PAL! I can handle a 5 year 10 bagger turning 10g into a 100g:dance: and pick up some good change along the way.

I tracked these two stocks and believe there is money to be made.

I am placing my order early morning.

EGO:yes:
TGB:yes:
TMA:yes:

I SOLD COIN AT $14.50:D

Damn that TMA looks crazy! $12 to under $2 back up over $3 in less than 2 weeks:eek:! How do you intend to trade TMA? Just asking as I read more....

:yes:that COIN is crazy right?, its one of the most insane stocks i've played in a bit, the Warrants are even more volatile. It had all or none potential..But for now it will swing madly...
I'll look at your selections, It's tough at times holding stocks over long hauls, the best position you can ever get in is getting a massive gain, >100%, then buying protective puts agains your holdings, you minimize your risk. Hopefully, PAL has some legs today, palladium back strong over 500 at 517...I'm telling you all. The metals are just warming up...look at long term charts & you'll see...I'm glad i have a few oz physical of metals too, cuz can't just have 1 kind of investment...

Overall market looks like its going to tank today, thanks to Carlyle Group...ah well time to exit POT w/ a few bucks & wait till it hits 145ish

Story from Corporatetakeover.net about Jesse Jacksons view of the Visa IPO.

"Rev. Jessie Jackson has called for changes to Visa’s IPO that would allow minority-owned investment banks to play a larger role in the underwriting process for the credit-card company’s offering, which would mean a larger cut of the fees resulting from doing so.Visa’s IPO is expected to raise more than $17 billion—the largest IPO in U.S. history. And according to Rev. Jackson, the total fees resulting from the underwriting process is expected to gross $370 million, and African-American and Latino owned and run investment firms will receive less than $1 million of that total. Rev. Jackson feels that sum is unfair because minorities represent 35% of Visa’s user base and goes on to say, in a letter sent to major investment banks and members of congress, “There must be some sense of ‘equanomics’ in the I.P.O. deal — where the representation of minority investment banking firms compares favorably to our consumer use of credit cards.” If Visa does not make changes, Rev. Jackson has proposed calling for congressional hearings to investigate possible discrimination against minority-owned investment firms on Wall Street. Many analysts expect Visa’s offering to perform far better than that of MasterCard, whose stock has increased 408% since its initial public offering in 2006; it started out at $39 and is currently trading at $195. Add that to the fact that Visa is the leader in the credit card market, and it’s easy to see that shares in Visa could represent a good long-term investment, despite current dismal market conditions. As far as me being able to make money in this type of market, it comes from constantly studying charts, & forever evolving strategies, but with a firm philosophical mind set that to win I must adapt to it, because its not gonna adapt to me. I often say you can't be a boxer & fight everyone with the same strategy.

Every time you get burnt by the market, you gain a bit more experience. In the end, only the ones with a strong stomach survive the market.

Also this is a traders market right now. You have to be able to maneuver a lot of curve balls and manipulation games to make $$ right now. If your not a trader my best advice for someone is to be liquid until enough good news comes out, with some $ hedge off into gold for protection against the falling dollar.

On being an investor I cant say that I disagree with you because I'm an investor too that knows how to trade. Over the last 10 years the market has gone from a good long term investment vehicle to a legalized casino, a crap shoot.

I believe in the fundamentals of being an investor, but the market is not functioning on fundamentals now so that makes it more predictable from a traders point of view. I often think to myself if you invested 5000 into the 20 cent ipo of (MCD) MacDonald s when it came out 35+ years ago you'll be a multi millionaire today. Right now I'm up about $750 for today with 2 round trades, shorting staying in position under 1 min for both trades. So theres pros & cons to both strategies. So good luck to everyone today, get that cash!

1st 2 hours of trading today, i sat w/ a trigger just a click away on POT to jump out at 154, but somehow saw the way it was moving today & kept holding off...Dow was down 200pts, now only 78 & POT is at 157, so, i'll see where this goes today, was ready to take the profits at 154..seen it hit 159+ today. It looks like its lifted the AGs, also as previusly said i picke dup some TNH at 122...well see how that low volume movement works.....PAL looks good today/SWC as well
Gold futures officially crossed 1000/oz...

Aprreciate the advice of the minions here,,,i think that most following this board realize that MOST every stock dropped here has returned VERY well...lets keep up the good work for new folks that jump on,,

haha "equnomics" Jesse must have fun merging words, Not that i'm knocking his opinion here, but look the "Street" ain ever catered to the persuasion of color & likely never will, this is the reality in these U,S of hAy. As for the thinking that Visa is so grand, i dunno,,20B IPO seems about right, maybe it moves to 40B to outdistance itslef from Mastercard, but, I'm sure a credit crunch is going to ocuur & both will be affected.

Another reality that is coming to be seen is that if you look at the banking stocks as true LOOOONG plays there is great gains to be made,,,C,MBIA,JP etc but the question is how long will that wait be. Financials have just been hammered. All markets cycle,,and they are in the worst downturn I've seen in financials..it will likely lead to consolidation & some buyouts..

That Bastard COIN is up again,,,,what a good bastard child it is tho,,...see they issued a PR for a dividend 1 share for ever 20 held....it's dilutive, but their share count is so small it's not that much, plus it lowers sharholder costs....

BTW,,,what was the original drop price on TGB...??? we'll have to update the ones we've dropped here at mid month..

Think Trip dropped it at 3.83

Got in at 4.16, loving this one.

PAL is moving back up today to so that is helping

Took a bath on that TMA but will ride it out a little bit longer

What's better than PAL moving up, PAL moving up on low volume. Things are leading up nicely to earnings next week. Should be interesting, with the US dollar replacing toilet paper worldwide, precious & base metals will benefit greatly. I'm looking for Palladium to form a solid base above 500, the volatility is going to be hectic at times because of the increase in investment grade into the PMGs. South Africa is destined to fail in their "fix" attempts, it's just not feasible, it's politician talk & once the winter hits them, story will change.......I still stand by my long term expectations for PAL...the short term will fluctuate,,,but there are only 2 primary palladium producers in the world PAL & SWC..think about that.

Midday volume is getting thin, AGs look strong..POT up over 3%..

That TGB is a nice one, 6.06 now, hate that i missed it,

picked up THN at 122, now 127... thinkin to bail..this market makes u think alot..lol

I appologize for dropping a pick here & not stating why i think it has a good prospect, I must have been moving a bit fast. TNH is a stock i favor due to the share structure, at present there are about 18M O/S w/ a LIMITED float of about 4.8M shares, thus certain things occur, you have lower average volume & larger price spreads & movement. The Bid Ask spread on it can get a little wild, sometimes in excess of .50c, but the overall performance for the past two years has been great..
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=TNH&t=2y&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=
Also I am adding TITN to my watch & Observe list..It's a recent IPO engaged in farm machinery,it too has a limited O/S of 13.36M & A float of 7.8M,,these situations are always ones i look for, its a main reason I'm on COIN. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=TITN&t=3m

I made out like a bandit at first on TMA and sold. then I bought $1500 again when it went to 2.9, now I am stuck at 2.26. I will wait it out. But make sure you put a stop on it. The stock made no sense to me, I was simply gambling. I put a $2.00 stop on mine.

What do you guys think about buying some viable airline stock for long term. Airtran stocka are at a lowprice right now and it seems to be one of the best run and profitable US airline around. Oil prices are killing airline stocks but they will rebound at some point and I want to be in.

Any thoughts?

What's up with the Banks that are getting hit with sub-prime mortgage woes! CitiGroup (CitiBank) is currently at $21. Do you think this will skyrocket in the next year or two? Is this a good time to get in, or will their stock generally remain at this level?

Financials are a mess, I'd be wary of putting money into any financial stock right now as I believe there is further erosion to occur. The subprime mess will linger into 2009, this is not a quick writeoff for any banks. They are being aided, and looking for deep pockets overseas..
http://www.financialsense.com/fsu/editorials/willie/2008/0116.html nteresting article about Citigroup, doesnt seem all all true though. There will be tons of layoffs in the banking sector to meet the street..I'll watch from sidelines, as they consolidate...always happens..

As for Airlines, don't buy the airlines, buy the makers, Boeing/Lockheed etc, Airlines are too problematic a business, remember the great Blue hope JetBLue http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=JBLU&t=my
the Airline business is not heavily profitable, just get the makers. Look for essential businesses/needed commodities. You're better off buying a farm equipment stock like John Deere..

Friday upon us & seem slike inflation #s came in low
http://us.rd.yahoo.com/finance/finh.../*http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080314/economy.html
so futures went from heavy down to heavy up..glad I didnt offload on POT & TNH yesterday,,and I have joined the minions on TGB at 6.40, at the 52 week high lol..looks good tho.

As far as Ipo's Visa I'm constantly thinking about the fact that BIG BANKS earnings comes out next week along with the feds FOMC Policy Statement Tuesday.

If those # are bad forget about it. So I'm waiting until mid Tuesday to make my decision.:

Just a reminder that more banks are coming out next week. So if your looking for short term profits with the visa ipo be cautious.

Bear Sterns (Bsc) that bitch is getting cut down.:itsawrap:
