here are some quotes from tha i agree with when i saw this...
"More retconning of the past? I'd prefer simply moving forward building new original ideas, not stomping over what has gone before. Prof X had a crush on teenage Jean... Prof X had an X-Men team we didn't know about.... Gwen Stacy actually slept with Norman Osborn and had kids.... Peter Parker's parents were SHIELD agents.... House of Ideas?"
"I can't believe that Marvel thinks that equating Legacy to Deadly Genesis is going to actually encourage anyone to buy it."
COSIGN
"Just when I thought I was in, they push me back out.
Just who acclaimed X-Men: Deadly Genesis?
How many more "shocking secrets" do they have left to reveal after 40+ years?
How many times have the X-Men faced a "bold new era"?
How many times have we heard "the X-Men are no more"?
And why do they insist on dicking with the title again?
I give up on the X-Men."
"The Xavier/Magneto focus reminds me of the post-Morrison "Excalibur", where they were on genosha. Only instead of Calisto, Shola, and some new characters, we have Gambit and Rogue. Omega Sentinal is even a common element.
I agree with the "no more secret pasts. no more retcons" sentiment. However, I would like the much retconned and altered (even by Claremont retconning himself at times) history of the pre-x-men x-men cleared up.
So Mike Carey and co, if you are listening, hear this plea: Please do not add anything new to the history of the X-men, instead, look for ways to make previous additions to make sence.
Example 1: Sage being an early recruit for Xavier sent to spy on the Hellfire club, But in the Dark Pheonix saga only Warren had ever heard of them, and he thought they were just a social club. And Xavier's thought ballons in the New Mutants graphic novel said he didn't trust Tessa, which is an odd thought for someone he was conspiring with.
Example 2: Storm having met the x-men in "the hidden years" series, but in Giant Size#1 she didn't know who Xavier was.
Also, Wolverine having met just about everyone before he joined the X-Men. Sure he lost his memories, but what's everybody else's excuse?
And what about Kitty's Dad being Xavier's war buddy?
What about Moira MacTaggert's early involvement? How come Magneto didn't know he had all those lost kids? Why did nobody know Magneto's real name for so long?
There are hundreds of conflicting retcons to clear up. This would be an excellent time."
so tell me how you feel about this![]()
Everything you're saying is what made me give up on "mainstream" super hero comics in the first place. How many times can they do the same shit over and over again?
