"Power Corrupts, and absolute Power Corrupts absolutly" and the NYPD have not been checked in a while if ever..they brush shit over and keep on doin what ever the fuck they want..! To all ya'll who swear by your TRUSTED Pigs.. hope ya'll never end up on the wrong side.. seems to be that unless your white and wealthy..you get the long side of the shaft (no-pun intended).. Imagne if the kid was WHITE..? Do you honestly think things would have played out the same way..? What would the reaction be..? THINK ABOUT IT...?

I heard the audio recording of the 911 tape(or at least part of it), just a question for some of you, was it just me or did the mother not even seem like she was threatened?? She was like you know what he's acting up and I just can't deal with this tonight, he's talking about he has a gun then the 911 operator says something like "he has a gun?", and then you hear him saying something in the background like "yeah I got a gun" or something like that, and the mother gives a sarcastic tone, and says "You hear him"..

My brother was in the room at the time, and we both said it didn't sound threatening at all, or the boy was a threat to anyone, the mother(she's from somewhere in the Caribbean because she has an accent) just didn't feel like dealing with him acting crazy..

What my brother said though was a white 911 operator would not pick up on the sarcasm as we would since our parents are from the West Indies, I'm telling you guys to listen to the tape, it didn't seem like a threatening situation at all, wherever you want to place blame upon after, just know that the tape didn't sound like a dangerous situation at all, listen to the tape that much I will say to the police saying the kid was threatening his mother with a gun, and that was justification..

It sounded to me like someone with mental problems saying yeah I got a gun, the mother laughing and saying sure you do, and then telling the 911 operator you hear this boy??

I also love the typical media spin of an 18 year old as a man, and suspect, when if it was a white victim or something, it would be "teenager", or "young man"

My main thing is does it honestly take 20 bullets to disable someone, let alone kill them?? If you got 5 people shooting, it shouldn't take more than 1-2 bullets per person to take someone down...

The mother says "the son has no respect and she can't deal with this tonight" "You heard him say it it came out of his mouth" "If he keeps on with this (not sure what she says)I'm not sleeping in here with this behavior"

Annoying brat thats out of control, maybe, dangerous gun toting thug??? I think not...

I'm also not trying to say that your appearance can excuse you from a hostile situation but the kid looked like a mouse, the type of person that if they came at you wrong you would laugh at them...

My critical thinking is not undermined by my racial back ground. That's ridicualous. If the report that I quoted turns out to be false, I'll adjust my opinion accordingly...

I don't like the tone of some of the posters here. If you feel the cops are an oppressive force and you wish to declare war on them after decades of police brutality, that is certainly understandable.

Having said that, now that you're made the choice to be revolutionary soldiers, you soldiers need to find you a fuckin general because you're thinking and talking in the same black-white, aggressive, hotheaded manner that soldiers do. BTW cops are also soldiers and the same mentality you are displaying in these posts is the mentality that got that young man killed. Marinate on that while you are loading up more flame for the "house negroes" and "sellouts" who don't parrot your opinion.

Now, for the generals...

Yes. And you know just what I'm saying don't you.

First of all police are designated liars. Designated liars. If you've ever heard police testify in a court room you know this. There is THUNDERING evidence that the police routinely shoot and kill unarmed Black people. Given these facts why, if you are Black, would you jump to the conclusion that this was justified or the brothers fault; ie "death by cop" or whatever type of bullshit they come up with to explain away our deaths??

Cops are an oppressive force in our community all arguments to the contrary and labored to the point of being totally ridiculous.

This is true. But not everyone is jumping to conclusions. Several folks heard the 9/11 tapes released. If you did not hear those tapes, it's not fair to insult another black man and potential ally as ridiculous, insincere or in any way beneath your moral and political standing. That's the fucked up mentality that undermines as many social movements as Judas and sellout behavior does. Cause that's what turns riders against riders and soldiers against soldiers.

Again, if you can't be diplomatic to your potential allies, send out someone who can. Otherwise, you're banging on yourself ultimately.

Very interesting point. If his mom was indeed an immigrant, this is sad. A lot of immigrants buy into that American Dream BS and call on authorities to handle what they do not want to handle, especially single immigrant moms intimidated by their sons. A lot of black folk from outside of America (Africa, Caribbean, etc.) really don't take their stateside kin seriously when we complain about the police and racism and oppression. They look at their conditions, and ours, and scoff: "Those black americans are making excuses and not being accountable. It couldnt possibly be as bad as here."

The US spends a lot of money and effort to propagandize abroad, and sadly many immigrants don't get the full scoop until they experience it here for themselves. The mother made a fatal judgement call, one she may live to regret for the rest of her life.

Having said that, if it surfaces that he did menace his own mom with a gun, how many of you militants will return here to apologize for screaming on your own brothers? Probably zero. You'll say "well fuck the pigs anyway" and not hold yourselves accountable for acting on emotion and not thinking and speaking clearly and calmly. Which is hoe shit if you ask me.

This was a police killing plain and simple. most likely brought about by one officer.

Lets review what is known so far

1. Mom calls mental health authorities about son.
2. Mental health authorities arrive at house about son. obviously they think there is a problem if they make house call and wait 2 hrs.
3. Son returns and some type of altercation happens with mom.
4. Mom calls police
5. Police arrive and has son hemmed up in bedroom alone possibly armed. Mom is safe. If police were competent mental health problems would have come to light and passed on to all officers on the scene.
6.Son/suspect exits through window. this is where the conflicting stories begin.police fall back on old standby excuse of object in hand or waistband. other witnesses on scene dispute that saying he dropped object then was shot. Police fire numerous shots but according to one witness and I believe the key witness 1 officer fired repeatedly.

My take on it so far is out of control officer cut loose and the others joined in or some variation on that scenario.

No matter what he should not have been shot.

I will say this. It's despicable that cops are not trained to respond to body language. Maybe I'm being judgmental but isnt there a way to hold a gun before firing that is distinctive? If I have ANY dark or shiny object in my hand and I raise that hand above my head how does that translate to "he's gonna shoot!!!!" If I hold a dark or shiny object away from my body, how does that translate to "he's gonna shoot!!!!"

I would think police would be trained to fire if they see someone draw down in a firing stance of any kind, not if they see an object in someone's hand in a life-or-death pressure situation, no matter their movement or stance.

Bottom line is, no one wants to be a cop in New York. They are poorly recruited, poorly trained and poorly monitored. They're looking for warm bodies at this point, and as they say in IT--garbage in, garbage out.

Couple that with the history of police as foot soldiers in class war, the American appetite for violence (reinforced by the media), and New York's own unapologetic refusal to question or corrall its own police, and shit like this is just gonna keep happening until individual communities demand more control over their police precincts, or until the collective will has had enough, or until straight up rebellion / riots / revolution breaks out.

Those people need to be lynched, twenty muthafucking shots? They need to quit giving these fools licenses and badges to kill......dude died over a hairbrush :smh:

fuck this world mane

5 COPS SHOT. NO COP FIRED MORE THAT 4 ROUNDS SO IF ITS THE NUMBER OF SHOTS THAT WERE FIRED THAT BOTHERS YOU , YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN. I WOULD FEEL YA IF IT WERE JUST 1 OR 2 THAT FIRED.

I thought I read that one cop shot half the shots and the rest were scattered among the four remaining ones (one or two apiece?)

AND I DONT KNOW ANYONE WHO CARRIES A BRUSH WHILE BEING CONFRONTED BY THE COPS, AFTER 911 WAS CALLED ON YOU CLAIMING YOU HAD A GUN. NO EVER ONE WHO IS SHOT BY IS NOT JUSTIFIED. BUT WHETHER YOU WILL ADMIT IT OR NOT ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN CLAIMING TO HAVE A GUN, AND ACTING CRAZY WHILE THE POLICE TRY AND SUBDUE HIM IS A THREAT. BECAUSE IF IT WAS A GUN INSTEAD OF A HAIRBRUSH WE COULD BE TALKING ABOUT DEAD BYSTANDERS. DO YOU REALLY AND I MEAN REALLY THINK THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE WAITED FOR HIM TO HARM SOMEONE BEFORE ASSUMING HE HAD A WEAPON.:smh:

AND I HAVE TO ASSUME ALSO THAT THE 20 SHOTS CAME FROM MORE THAN ONE COP YOU DO THE MATH ON THAT.

still on your bullshit. You nor the NYPD has articulated what threat this 18 year old posed. Only thing I'm hearing from you are maybe he this or he could have done that. The kicker in your post is you say the cops assumed he had a gun. Is that the level of care you think is appropriate in order for the police to use deadly force? A mere assumption? You are nothing more than a person thats full of shit.

Yes bring up someone who actually did something wrong and compare it to a kid who didn't... :smh::smh::smh::smh:

From the extent of the tape like I said before, the mother never conveyed that she was in danger or anything, her entire call sounded sarcastic, and the mother even said in reference to him even having a gun something like "I didn't say it he did".. In reality the mother has some parts to blame for what happen, obviously if she didn't call the police he would still be alive.. Still though you don't call the police to take away your mentally unstable son just so he can be shot dead by them, you can't pin this on the mother...

The police defenders on here say that police are people as well, so I'll look at this from a "people" standpoint, one guy in front of me 5 officers shooting, lets say it's 4 shots each, the kid looks like he has a small frame, do you even think it takes 4 shots each from 5 people to incapacitate or kill someone, you know the people around you are shooting as well, you don't have to be a marksman and aim for specific body parts, but how hard is it to kill a man?? I know damn sure it doesn't take 20 shots...

no how about making some sort of threatening move with something that more resembles an actual weapon than a hairbrush instead of leaving out a first story window and walking away.

Coppin's downward spiral began long before cops arrived at his family's apartment shortly after 7 p.m. Monday.

Earlier that day, his mom had called the Interfaith Medical Center's mobile crisis team to ask it to help with her mentally disturbed son, who had a prior arrest for robbery and got out of juvenile detention center in August.

She told the Interfaith team about noon that "Khiel would eventually do something bad and that he was talking about suicide," Kelly said.

An Interfaith psychologist responded to the Gates Ave. home about 6:30 p.m., but Coppin was not home.

A psychologist from Interfaith later told detectives Owens was afraid of her son because he was not taking his anti-psychotic and anti-depressant drugs - Risperdal and Concerta. Coppin had previously spent time in the Kings County Hospital psych ward, Kelly said.

The psychologist told cops Owens said she had taken her son's apartment keys and asked him to leave the home. But he refused, the psychologist said.

About a half hour after the Interfaith team left, Coppin returned home. His mom said she pretended to dial 911 twice to "scare him" and get him to leave, police said. This time, she really dialed for help.

When Coppin heard her talking to the 911 operator, he picked up a tape dispenser, put it under his shirt and said that he was "prepared to die," she told cops.
In tapes of the 911 call, Coppin can be heard in the background cursing and yelling, "I've got a gun, and I'm going to shoot you!"

At one point, the 911 operator asks Owens if her son has a gun, and she doesn't answer directly.

"You heard him," she said. "... I didn't say ... you heard it outta his mouth.
"

The operator later called back and asked for a description of the gunman. The mom said, "He does not, hmmm, who says ... He does not have a firearm."

When cops arrived at apartment 1-D, the door was ajar and they could see Coppin in a hallway with two knives, Kelly said. Owens and her 11-year-old daughter were also in the home.

Cops got Owens and her daughter out of the three-bedroom apartment and Owens told the officers her son was not carrying a gun, police said.

As the cops approached Coppin, he brandished the knives, lunged toward them and yelled, "Shoot me! Kill me!" police said.

The cops retreated into an outside hallway and Coppin went into a back bedroom, Kelly said.

At one point, the teen yelled, "Come get me! I have a gun! Let's do this!"

The cops in the building then heard Coppin moving a window gate and cops outside yelling, "He's going out the window!"

Coppin dropped about 4 feet from the window to the sidewalk and walked through an exterior gate toward cops in front of the building, police said.

NYPD Capt. Charles McEvoy ran from the apartment as the teen came out the window. He told the cops outside to back up and take cover, Kelly said.

They retreated and positioned themselves behind two parked cars. Coppin continued toward the cops, ignoring repeated orders to show his hands and get down on the ground, Kelly said.

He then reached under his sweatshirt, brandished an object and pointed it at cops "as if he were aiming a gun," Kelly said.

Five cops responded by firing a total of 20 rounds. Medics took Coppin to Woodhull Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The medical examiner said bullets hit Coppin in the chest, hip, forearm, knee, thigh and ankle. The wounds to his left lung and intestines were fatal.

"He didn't have to be killed," said Coppin's stepfather, Reginald Owens.

The shooting enraged some residents and community leaders, who likened it to last November's police shooting of Sean Bell, an unarmed bridegroom.

"The police have gotten out of control," City Councilman Charles Barron said.

Kelly said the shooting appeared to be "within department guidelines" and noted 10 witnesses told police Coppin ignored the cops' orders to stop. They included a 50-year-old woman who said she saw him raising an unknown dark object in his right hand while lunging at cops.

When asked by Internal Affairs Bureau detectives whether he could have been raising his hands in surrender, Kelly said, she responded, "Absolutely not."
All the cops involved in the shooting were given Breathalyzer tests, and all passed.

Kelly said cops did not know that Coppin had a history of mental illness. He said the incident unfolded too fast "to enable us to put the resources in place to appropriately restrain him."

BROTHER LETS AGREE TO DISAGREE THAT THIS YOUNG BROTHER DIDNT HAVE TO DIE, BUT YOU MUST ALSO AGREE THE COPS DIDNT SHOW UP BY THEMSELVES, SO I THINK SOME OF THE BLAME SHOULD BE PLACED ON THE MOTHER AND THE YOUNG MAN, AS WELL AS THE COPS.

It ain't over with yet. Everyone involved will be grilled more extensively including the witnesses for both versions. So there'll be no agreement about where to place the blame. Not yet.

WELL BROTHER ALL I DOING IS COMMENT ON WHAT I'VE HEARD. JUST LIKE YOU WE WERE NOT THERE SO FOR EITHER OF US TO ASSUME WE KNOW WHATS GOING ON IS LYING. BUT WITH THAT BEING SAID ANY MAN WHO WILDS OUT ON THEIR MOMS TALKING BOUT GUNS IS A THREAT. I IN KNOW WAY FEEL THAT THE COPS ARE TOTALLY FOR US BUT ON THE SAME NOTE I DONT THINK THERE TOTALLY AGAINST US. PEOPLE MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILTY FOR THEIR ACTION. IF HIS MOMS DIDNT CALL (AND REALLY WASNT SCARED) THIS WOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED. IF HE JUST COMPLIED WITH POLICE ORDERS THIS WOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED. I REALLY DONT THINK THE COPS PULLED UP JUMP OUT THE CAR AND PUMP THIS MAN FULL OF LEAD. SO LETS STOP FINDING THE CONVENIENT PLACE TO PLACE THE BLAME AND PLACE IT WHERE IT BELONGS.
LAST TIME I HAD THIS ARGUEMENT WAS ABOUT JENA 6, AND LOOK WHAT FOOLS THEY MADE OF PEOPLE. :lol:YOU SHOULD REALLY WATCH WHAT YOU PLACE YOUR BLACK PRIDE ON.

"... I didn't say ... you heard it outta his mouth."

Two Milwaukee police officers were shot along with three other people Tuesday night within blocks of each other on the near south side, a police official said.

The officers were taken to Froedtert Hospital, but their conditions were not available late Tuesday.

"We just need the prayers of this community for these officers," Schwartz said while addressing the media near the shooting scene.

Two suspects were in custody after the shootings, which took place about 7:30 p.m. near S. 14th St. and W. Greenfield Ave. and S. 12th and W. Madison streets.

According to Schwartz, officers with the vice control division were conducting a drug investigation near S. 14th and W. Greenfield and heard shots fired. The officers called for backup, and vice control and intelligence officers responded.

Three of the intelligence officers approaching the area in a squad car were fired upon, and a 31-year-old officer with 10 years' experience and a 26-year-old with eight years' experience were struck.

Police returned fire, striking a 15-year-old male suspect. The teenager, whose condition was unavailable late Tuesday, and a 24-year-old male were taken into custody.

Police recovered drugs and two semi-automatic handguns from the shooting suspects, Schwartz said.

The shootings on 12th and Madison took place just before the officers were shot, and police were trying to determine late Tuesday whether the events were related.

Two males, one 15, the other 16, were wounded in that shooting, and both were reported in critical condition late Tuesday, Schwartz said.

The neighborhood where the officers were shot is a mix of homes, bars, restaurants and small grocery stores. Residents poured out from their homes and stood in clusters near the street corners as waves of marked and unmarked patrol cars, SUVs and police on motorcycles flooded the area.

Joann Balle, who lives in the neighborhood near the W. Greenfield Ave. shooting, said she heard three shots as the episode unfolded but didn't witness the shooting. She said residents have been trying to get the neighborhood cleaned up, but the shootings were a setback.

"If there were kids crossing the street out here, they could get killed any day and it's terrible," Balle said.
