This Dude Is Supposed To Be Real Hip Hop?

Isn't this kinda like some arrogant NBA rookie mothafucka saying he never watched Michael Jordon or Magic Johnson?

In other words he didnt study the game.

Floyd Mayweather said he was better than BOTH Sugar Rays

These young stupid muthafux:smh:

yeah i feel that. but the only difference between Lupe and Floyd mayweather is that Floyd does have some credentials to brag on, Lupe is nothing compared to TCQ

I feel Lupe on this...
I have never heard Midnight Marauders..... and I don't really care to seek it out and take a listen.
I bought their last release, and I think the one before that....they were an ok listen, no replay value to me.
I understand his "high horses" comment because people (media, other artists, and fans) of that era believe that every album by their favorite artist, or every release of that era that had a major effect on them or their life also had the same effect on the whole world, or at least the whole hip-hop world. This ain't true!
New York IS NOT THE ALPHA & OMEGA OF HIP-HOP
I cannot listen to kool g rap, nas is cool but no replay value, never bought a big daddy kane record, don't really care for de la soul.....to many, these thoughts are blasphemous.
But these same people can't relate to Luke & 2 Live Crew, Kilo Ali, Outkast, Witchdoctor, Cool Breeze, 8ball & MJG, UGK, Snoop, Kriss Kross, JD. And even call MY music coon rap?! WTF
I can relate to what Lupe said.... Whats classic to you, ain't classic to me.
This shit is art man, ain't no index to measure it..... it just is what it is.
You get from it what you get from it!

I hate to break it to you Dhustla but New York is the Alpha (the beginning) of Hip Hop (but you knew that)... as for the Omega (the ending), it looks like some of those artists you mentioned in your post above can claim that title.

Hip hop was born in NY... only in a place like NY where you have so many cultures on top of each other could you get Jamaican chant street culture and B boys together on the same block to create (organically) A Multi billion dollar global phenomenon.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:This shit is so ridiculous, I have to let Freaky 1 handle this. He'll have a field day.

Nas. No replay value? :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
I agree.. someone please stone him... Smmfh This is why Rap Sucks To fuckin DAY! Gimmie 90's R&B, Hip Hop, Alternative, Raggae any fuckin day over the bullshit that's playing now...

Well, I've never been a Lupe fan and admittedly never really been a Tribe fan, though I do love some of their joints. All in all, even though I'm not a fan of either I overstand the ramifications of Lupe's heinous actions. I respect anyone who's made waves affecting thousands of artists after them deserves props and respect. I remember some silly ass faggot saying Rakim was wack?!?!?! There will always be people who have no idea what Hip-Hop is all about. Snoop's influence can be felt as well as the whole Native Tongue vibe which is still evident in all types of artists. Mos Def, Common, Talib, etc. etc.

It's simple. You can hate it or not necessarily like it personally but you can't take away from the influence they've had on the art form and their legendary status. Lupe's a dick! Not for disliking or having no interest in Tribe but for not seeing how much they should be respected.

forget the fact that he hasn't heard MM and isn't a tribe fan...

but remember that
1 he chose to pay tribute to them
2 then fucked up,
3 then said he doesn't listen to them,
4 then said he never would,
5 then said Mc Hammer was more important to him than them!!!!

he obviously isn't very smart...
he only messed up a couple of lines, shit alot of rappers do it with their own lyrics!!
all he had to say was "oops i slipped up" END OF STORY

Im going to get ripped on this one but fuck it . The problem with todays artist and generation is they have no respect for the game and no concept of what makes you great. You dont talk shit when you barely out the gates.Youre not a thug because you got a gun . Youre not the goat because your boy says so. Now to why Im going to get it .......Just like biggie, he was great but the goat ....hell no.Making a bid... yes...The goat ..no.He got shot on his second album and between real fans life after death was hot but in its form not a classic. In stead of trying to be like Pac(who was the first rapper to drop double cds that were heat from front to back)He should have condensed the material to the 12 hottest tracks on both cds.Bigging up K west and Lupe like we are is just like saying todays candy ass ,watered down bloods and crips could hang with their original members. Saying youre great is not being great.Acting like the man is not being the man.A gun is not being more man than a one on one fight .And a rookie like Jupe should not even get the shine or attention hes getting .After all he is not a back pack rapper not dumming down his material ...he just plays one on tv.:smh::smh::smh:

Lupe= a female cleaning lady from El Salvador
Kanye= a gay homosexual rapper
Common= a retarded overrated wimpy wanna be "deep" homo

Chicago needs to stick to house music. They ain't been right since "Smoking on haaaaaaaay in the middle of the baaaaaaaaaaarn"
Wow.

You know what really wrong with today's rappers?

The idiot fans bestowing greatness on them before they can even earn it. The reason older rappers get so much respect from older cats is not because they came out when we were young, but because they earned our respect.

Now to be considered great, all you have to do is

1. Be from the south
2. Say random bullshit with no concept on a song
3. call everybody who says you suck a hater
4. get idiot young dudes on the internet to co-sign you

BOOM instant greatness (Lil Wayne)

Lupe fucked up. Point blank and he will suffer accordingly. But I remember this time last year some Lil Wayne fans were on here saying shit like Weezy is better than Nas and he's top 5 all time. Now if he would've said what Lupe said those same fools will be saying he's right.

I gotta agree with this guy too. Real talk, everyones opinion is exactly that, an opinion. Just because 97% believe that Nas' Illmatic album was the classic of all classics, and some guy says, "Hey.. that album was kind of boring to me" Who the hell are you to tell him hes wrong with his own opinion. I agree that LUPE took the wrong route as far as explaining this to his audience/fans and other people, but his feelings are not "WRONG" per se, just different. Just like someone could listen to one of Lupe's personal classics and think its not as hot as Lupe thought it was, is he wrong, or are the both wrong? No, they're both right because its all an opinion, some of yall need to learn how to seperate that shit. And BTW, if 75% of people said a certain album was classic, dont you think the last remaining percentage would want to agree so they arent lampooned into hiding? People by nature are sheep, so anyone saying ... "MAN.. 90% percent of people believe BIGGY was the GOAT"... shit I dont believe he was the best, and I dont believe PAC was the best either- but you gonna get that last couple of percentage to say it too just to blend in with everyone else. There ain't no best, its always a constant competition that never stops. Thats the beauty of it.

The fact that Lupe fudged some lyrics that he had a good while to practice for, is more of a CON to his performance, not his artistry. Y'all niggaz need to get off that high horse for real, on both sides of the argument.

Now, he coulda been diplomatic about it and explained the situation in a way as to not offend anyone, but these are HIS feelings and how he grew up, how the fuck you gonna tell him he aint hip hop!? The one thing about HIP HOP that brings everybody together is just that... the fact that it BRINGS EVERYBODY TOGETHER, from the skateboarders, to the gangstas, to the chill back relax type peeps, y'know? All of y'all are shitting on hip hop as far as I know. Dhustla said that Nas had no replay value. I dont think so, but who am I to tell Dhustla that "Nas does have replay value as a fact", I can tell him that Nas has replay value TO ME. Thats all it is, none of this shit anyone is saying about music is pure fact, its all subjective. Think about it.

edit- And to clarify, I've listened to all of ATCQ albums (As far as I know), there are a couple of standout tracks, like Bonita, for one.. but as a whole, TO ME, it as just a little bit above average. For me, I just love to listen to music period, but the same classics that hit your brain hard dont move me like that. I mean, I think Ray Cash "Cash on Delivery" album was fucking HOT, lyrics and beats... but do you think everyone else feels the same? How about a couple years later? Most of yall are closeminded than a mothafucka, the complete antithesis of HIP HOP itself.

There are a few things that bothered me as I read the original post and the comments that followed.

#1 Lupe (who is my favorite rapper as of now) loses lots of respect from me by his unwillingness to give ATCQ a listen. I mean, there were many artists who I didn't "grow up on," but when I got older, I wanted to get the full hip-hop/rap experience. I didn't grow up on Jeru the Damaja, BDP, and Wu-Tang, but I gave them a listen to after I got older and was glad I did.

#2 His lack of humility stinks! :smh:

#3 freak_1 including the Hot Boyz in the list of ringtone rappers is ridiculous. I mean I was feeling your post up to that point.

#4 Chicago has the rap game in a choke hold.
Common's last two albums, BE (2005)and Finding Forever (2007)
Kanye's last two albums, Late Registration (2005) and Graduate (2007)
Lupe's album, Food & Liquor (2006)
No other city can match album for album in the last two years!

#5 So many people base their opinions of the artists music on the artists themselves. This is where things get out of hand. Respect the music for what it is. I honestly don;t know how many of the rappers I listen to, that I'd kick it with. But it is what it is.

I was just going on about groups and rappers and I know they not ringtone rappers, they just suck as a group and individuals.

WHO THE FUCK SAID FREAK 1 IS THE EXPERT ON WHATS HIP HOP? FOR THIS DUDE TO EVEN AGREE WITH LUPE HE SHOULD BE BANNED.

How the fuck can you be a hip hop artist and not know the history of what you do for a living? LUPE HAS EFFECTIVELY ENDED HIS CAREER.

Read my posts dude, I didn't agree with Lupe I said he needs to get his head out his ass for saying something like that.

Lupe fucked up, I said that also. I also said I like his music. But he's an idiot for this shit he said.

And to your bottom statement, ask many of these new rappers. hardly any of them know about the past of hip hop and don't care to learn. I am surprised that Lupe didn't at least go back and listen to some tribe after he grew up a little.

I was the only one up on West Coast shit before it got popular, but I went back and listened to De La Soul, Poor Righteous Teachers, Wu Tang Clan, Jay-Z, and all the east coast stuff I missed out on.

He needs to do the same.

I agree with you that this could be career threatnening, but if Lil Wayne can get away with saying he's better than jay-Z then, he might live this down.

But he really fucked up.

Pretty obvious that peoples individual opinion is their opinion and valid (to a degree). If you have an opinion, you personally, or an interpretation based on part of the facts or pieces of history how can your opinion truly be considered? You agree with a dude that is unable to give credit to the birth place of the art form you are defending... which tells me you have little idea how we've arrived at this place in creativity or how Hip Hop even began. Yeah, your aloud to have your own differing opinion but if the opinion differs bc those that disagree don't have all the information there's no room to defend them/ you / him or your differing opinion (bc it's based on pieces of a whole).

Anybody can say they better than Jayz, Jim Jones and Campon said they were they went at him so what but ask them dudes about the history of the game and they can tell you. There's a respect for those who paved the way for bitches like Lupe and for him to act like ATCQ didn't matter or didn't have an impact on the game, not only did he disrespect them he disrespected Krs1, fab 5 freddy, DJ red alert, nice and smooth, pete rock, Rakim, Kane and all the rest of the heads who made this shit possible for his ass.

FUCK THAT NIGGA he's done.

I hope Lupe gets shot 9 times and reinvents himself as 75 Cent, since all he listened to growing up was gangsta-rap! Fuck that dude.

Right now maybe but given the mediocrity of Kanye on the microphone and the over-hyped Lupe I can't see Chicago holding onto the crown for long. Besides, you missed Kidz in the Hall's debut which is better than all the albums you stated.
New York is going to come back soon. With new G Rap in the works, NYG'z just releasing their new effort and Wu Tang on the horizon we still have new Rakim, Nas, Pete Rock, Raekwon, Cormega and Big Daddy Kane to look forward to.

Man I thought Lupe was smarter than this and dude's almost 30 years old(he's been shaving years off of his age as of late. When he debuted in Vibe and The Source his age was listed as 27-28:yes:).

Kanye is mediocre on the mic, but his music (albums) are far from it. No denying that. That's what I'm saying. People try and dissect the music, instead of enjoying it. I totally agree that Kanye is lacking lyrically, but his music goes hard.

Lupe may be over hyped but he has undeniable skills on the mic and his album was banging.

I won't even debate the "NY is coming back" thing with you.

See all u guys on here are not true hip hop fans!!!

I grew up from the beginning of this shit I loved every thing about this from Super rhymes to lil Bow Wow. I grew up in the Gangta life in the Brooklyn projects I was raised so i was easy to be influence to gangsta rap but at the same time I appreciated Tribe Called Quest De La Soul Common sense Jungle brother X Clan Brand Nubians Hammer etc.. its just what elements they brought to make Hip Hop grow! into what it is world wide I remember Hip hop just consisted in the hoods of NYC having fun at the block parties Now that Hip Hop have world domination we're spoiled and we dont know what to dod with this shit but destroy it Young niggas like Lupe its their duty to pay homage to the Tribe there is no Lupe if it wasn't for the Tribe! thats like the Tribe dissing africa Bambata yall young cats are disrespectful niggas fought on the front lines for years for Hip Hop so yall can be spoiled in this shit! So Lupe i dont feel u on this...And who ever said NY aint the Alpha and Omega of this u dont know the meaning of it NY is the ALPHA of Hip hOP AND NO ONE CAN KILL hIP hOP BUT NY!!!!

How you gonna make a blanket statement like that saying all of us are not hip hop fans?

Kill yourself. if you read the posts most people have said the same thing you said.

Understood. You're absolutely right about how an artist can be questionable on the microphone but then produce a great album. Guru had some very iffy moments when rhyming but Gangstarr pt out consistently good material.

I don't really wish to debate NY with you either. I'm in Chicago and there is a very healthy hip hop scene here. In fact, in some aspects I've seen the golden age reflected. It's fun again.
Then there is the fact that NY artists don't necessarily equate to good music no matter who they are. Kool G Rap may be a lyrical beast but he did make the awful "Giancana Story," Rakim may be the most spoken about emcee who has ever lived but can he go toe to toe in today's hip hop?
When it comes down to it we all love hip hop and debating over what city or area is better is what's destroying hip hop.
Shit, I personally think some of the best hip hop is coming from the UK right now.
