This Dude Is Supposed To Be Real Hip Hop?

If you are a fan of the music and student of the craft, there's certain albums that are must listens. Tribes first four albums are must listens. It's like never having had listened to The Chronic, Ready To Die or 36 Chambers. He's old enough where it's not an age situation, it's pure ignorance.

I think Lupe is trying to prove he really is cool, and separate himself from his nerd image, but he went about it in the wrong way.

I listened to Tribe and I like some of it, but dude is right that music didnt affect the world like it did NewYork as much as they would have like to think it did. I'm not a yungin either, real talk, when is hip hop going to honor Luther Campbell, no matter how you feel about his music. If he wouldn't have won that landmark censorship case Hip Hop aka Rap would not be what it is today therefore he contributed just as much if not more than your favorite MC.

2 strikes for the "Windy City" crew.

Lupe= a female cleaning lady from El Salvador
Kanye= a gay homosexual rapper
Common= a retarded overrated wimpy wanna be "deep" homo

Chicago needs to stick to house music. They ain't been right since "Smoking on haaaaaaaay in the middle of the baaaaaaaaaaarn"

Come on man. Common though? I'm a Common fan so I find myself always defending him whenever someone is talking music. "Like Water for Chocolate" was a sick ass album.

I'm not really a big Kanye fan, but I like to listen to his instrumentals.

Lupe not listening to ATCQ really doesn't make him a nerd. Does it take away from his lyrical skill because he didn't hear the album?

:smh::smh::smh:Its a fucking sad day in Hip-Hop when an artists who projects himself and one who is a student of the game has never heard Midnight Marauders or knows the words to "Electric Relaxation"!!! Thats like Game saying he's never heard "Straight Out Of Compton" or Nas saying he's never heard "Paid In Full"!!! Lupe is a fucking desecndant of the Native Tongues movement whether directly or indirectly. The least he could have done was memorize the words since they had scheduled him WEEKS in adavnce! Lupe has definetly taken an L in this case and he's always going to be looked at in a weird light. Unless his next album goes platinum because we all know Hip Hoppers nowadays have short memories. :smh::smh::smh:

i didn't live in new york at the time, and that album was huge where i was from. just cuz you and lupe didn't feel the album, doesn't mean the majority of the world didn't. they birth a new sound in hip-hop, which makes them innovators. they could tour around the world for the rest of their lives if they want too. they still get mad respect in europe, asia, and australia. i know that for fact.

these old heads are funny. everyone has the right to like what they like. just because someone doesn't like albums or songs that you may consider classic doesn't mean they're ignorant, not hip hop, etc. kids now and days are growing up listening to wayne, soulja boy, jezzy, etc. not a tribe called quest and other acts from back in the day. i really think that the country in general is dumbing down, thats why the music quality isn't there. these kids don't care about these old rappers because its considered old school to them and they want to hear whats hot now. when some of yall were growing up didn't yall want to hear the new rakim song?? the average young person likes new music. only true hip hop heads will dig deep to find older material. the fact is simple. the only old school rappers that are actually recognized now are the ones who still make songs. i grew up on the chronic and doggystyle and both dre and snoop are still relevant in the game because they "still" make music. most of these older acts dont make shit anymore, yet get mad when people dont know about them. jay damn near 40 and he is still relevant because he never really stopped making music. even ll cool j can make an album and get some radio play and ok #'s on soundscan because he is still being seen in movies etc. i admit that a lot of the rappers out now aren't that good as the throwback rappers, however, if the throwback rappers were so good, why aren't they still making songs. a good rapper can always change with the times and if not, they get left behind.

this is from a nigga who sold double plastic on his last disc....maybe he should listen to midnight maraurder...in fact lupe is such a none factor its pitiful....how about this, u gotta atleast go ngold in ur career before u can speak on the past hip hop artists..especially one who has sold more than u

This is one of the major differences/problems with hip-hop as compared to other genres of music- the lack of knowledge of the history of the art amongst the artists. Its one thing for people on this board who are not emcees to be ignorant of certain artists, but for someone like Lupe who is arguably in the same sub-genre of hip hop that Tribe pioneered to take this kind of stance is questionable.

I was always a fan of Tribe, De La, Jungle Brothers etc. and am surprised that dude never heard Marauders, especially because "Award Tour" and "Electric Relaxation" where in heavy rotation on MTV raps. But his taste are his own and I can't fault him for not listening to Tribe, many people I grew up with didn't listen to Tribe. However, it is ironic that he mentions popularity and impact as his justifications for not listening to the album.

I know he feels he is being attacked and thus is being defensive, but he stands to be put in the same position 7-10 years from now. I can name 30-40 other emcees right now that are more popular than Lupe and Im sure that the next wave of non-threatening "backpack" rappers will say the same thing that he said about Tribe about him. If Lupe ever is in a position to be honored at a comparable event, which at this point is unlikely, it will be hilarious when some young upstart doesn't know the words to "Kick-Push".

This is one of the reasons hip-hop artists don't have the longevity of rock artists. You don't see Tool not giving credit to King Crimson (even brought Crimson on tour with them) or Metallica saying they never listened to Black Sabbath. Ozzy Osbourne is over 60 and he is still making albums and is making significant money from touring. Megadeth, Metallica, and Slayer have been around since the early 80's and still have huge fanbases and are respected in the current metal scene. What hip-hop artist can anyone foresee being able to do that??? The sad thing is that one day Kanye, Lupe, Jeezy, Joc, 50 etc will all be in the same position as these artists that they claim are irrelevant.

I decided to read this last page to see whats going on. So the kick push faggot never heard midnight marauders? Its like the Rolling Stones saying they never listened to the blues.
another retarded crack baby from chitown

im glad i dont listen to his bubblegum rap bullshit

when a moron picks up a mic and talks out of his ass or grunts and dances like a bitch its bubblegum rap - rap for stupid bitches
lupe the fiasco aint got shit on solja boy - they probably share a brain

I say this all the time. People have no respect for the history of hip hop culture or rap music. It's just throw away shit to them

Older rappers who are legends don't get the props they deserve. But everyone wants to dickride these new wack rappers who don't know shit about music period.
