White Cop punches 15 year old black girl in the face.

A controversy is brewing in South Florida over a dash-camera video showing a Fort Pierce police officer punching a 15-year-old girl while she is resisting arrest, WPBF News 25 reported.

The tape indicates Fort Pierce police Officer Daniel Gilroy turned on his dash-camera and recorded the arrest of 15-year-old Shelwand Riley, who police said was violating curfew and acting suspiciously. She was allegedly carrying a garbage bag full of new clothes with tags still attached, WPBF reported.

Riley's aunt, Gloria Smith, said the tape shows police brutality and excessive force, even though her niece bit the arresting officer on the arm.

"Well, she did that after his aggressive behavior. He never stated why he was appending her. Her rights were never read to her; she was violated all the way," Smith said.

The videotape shows Gilroy punching Riley with his fist and spraying her with pepper spray after she bit him, WPBF reported.

The tape indicates that Riley was placed into the back seat of an officer's patrol vehicle and officers attempted to wash off the pepper spray using a bottle of water.

Riley appeared in court this week represented by a public defender, who refused to comment on the case, WPBF reported. The teen pleaded not guilty to a resisting-arrest charge.

According to court documents, the case is expected to go to trial in November, where a judge will decide whether the officer used excessive force in the arrest.

Fool a police officer actions are judge by everything he or she is taught in the state police academy.There is no self defense course taught that gives permission for officers to punch subjects in the face.Only thing that fools is covered for is the use of the OC SPRAY on the female subject.You can't react in anger and punch a child(yes she is a child hint child abuse charges will pend) in the face.If she would have tried to bit me I would have gone to the ground with the subject and applied control measures taught in the academy to make the girl comply with my verbal commands.

I wanted to blame and hate the cop, but it seems like he was going out of his way to NOT use force on her, giving her numerous chances to comply. She did not and she showed aggression and assaulted a police officer and he reacted instinctively. It wasn't malicious. At that point he realized that force would be needed and sprayed her. I think he should be cited or whatever they do to cops and put in his folder, but nothing more than that.

I know some of the cop haters and supa brothers out there might not agree but I watched the vid and to be honest it looked like the cop was trying to keep from physically injuring her while he was trying to restrain her. And the punch looked like a reaction. He could have broke her jaw with one hand in a handcuff and her face at that angle. The OC spray (at the time it was employed) might have been over kill. I really hate to see something like this though
