I was doing some searching online just to read up on some products to make sure I get the most bang for my buck. Also for those that do have HD TV what else do you have to get the full effect. HD DVD player blu ray or HD DVR?

I'm looking for something 26-32 and something I don't have to plant on the wall.

thanks in advance.

I was looking at the Sony Bravia myself.

Is LCD better than Plasma? That is what I'm leaning towards.

Samsung, Sharp, LG & Sony are the best options out right now. make sure you get HDMI and/or Component cables to connect your high def player or gaming systems (even for the Wii) to get the max from your set. you might also want to invest in a callibration because it makes a 720p set look better than a 1080p set.

Sony is expensive! you can get a good 37" LG with a 6000:1 contrast ratio for under $1,000. LG is a real good company and made parts for Samsung & Sony for years until they decided to do their own thing!

LCD requires less maintanence than a Plasma, you don't have to worry about burn in if you're into gaming or prone to leaving the television on for hours at a time. they also cost less than plasma's.

hope that helps! :D

what is a good price cause I saw walmart had them for like 5 to 6 that's a 32 inch but best buy and circuit city were like 7 to 8

a good price for a 32" is gonna be right around that $750 to $800 range. a good 37" is gonna run anywhere between $900 to $1400.

you'd also want to invest in some sort of power conditioner (surge protection).

32" - Westinghouse Recertified - $424.99 + $49.99 shipping.

you could easily buy a 22" computer monitor that outputs a better picture than a Westinghouse! their contrast ratio's suck hot death for anything under 40" models

i stopped buying dvd's except for stuff like Heroes and LOST, when i upgrade i'll upgrade those too but i'm happy with my HD DVR and my movie downloads from BGOL that i can stream via 360, wii or cable through my imac

I saw a few Westinghouse LCDs in Circuit City, and the sitting next to the Sonys and LGs, the picture quality was several notches below those two. I bought a Samsung and haven't regretted it. It has a built-in HD tuner so I pick up HD broadcasts with the $30 Walmart HD antenna.

Also mine has VGA input and I have a multi-media computer hooked up to it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can do that with plasma.

From what I understand, Samsung and LG sets are the way to go. If you're looking for lower price models then you might want to consider Insignia or Olevia. I copped a 32" Insignia from Best Buy about a month ago and absolutely love it.

use the search function for old threads.

and swole, 720p better than 1080p? on the same displays? i call Bullshit. note the capital "B". of course, if you're talking about 720p calibrated v. 1080p non-calibrated, i could agree to the possibility.

1080p is/looks superior to 720p ALWAYS, when all other factors are equal.

amongst different displays, your statement could very well be true, due to the difference in competing processor technologies.

for the OP, see if you like the new OLEVIA brand. one of the companies that formed OLEVIA used to be the BEST display manufacturers hands down.

yeah, i hear VIZIO is the way to go!!! better product for your $$$$.

suggestion: move it in after hours with a tarp covering it.

:lol::lol: great advice. i can tell you are from baltimore.

Any flat screen 50 inches or better, Plasmas are the way to go!
They out perform the LCD's in the big TV's.
LCD's are better in the smaller sets.

Olevia is actually the way to go. Consumer Reports list it as the best bang for the buck. Better picture than Vizio and LG. Got a 32" for 5bills at Circuit City, Memorial Day sale. Once you know how to calibrate it, it is great.

Well BJ's wholesale has a 46" Sony Bravia for 2200.

46" would fit my living room tv niche and I wouldn't need a bracket because it will sit over my fireplace.

I looked at the Sanyo and Vizio and I was impressed with their quality but the Bravia blew me away.

I guess I'll be going with the LCD though.

Thanks for everyone's input and thanks to the original poster for this thread.
