I just got a deposit today for $2600, which is $5000 minus the lawyers cut. Did anyone else get involved? I have tinnitus, and had I gone to the hospital more for it I would have gotten more, I just thought it was something I had to suffer with, and didn't bother nor do I know I had to go back to the hospital for it

For those who didn't know...

The Issue:
The lawsuits claim that the 3M Combat Arms Earplugs, used by the U.S. military between 2003 and 2015, were defective and did not adequately protect service members from noise-induced hearing damage. Specifically, the earplugs were accused of loosening and allowing sound waves to penetrate, leading to hearing loss and tinnitus.

The Settlement:
In August 2023, 3M agreed to pay $6 billion to resolve the lawsuits, according to Reuters. The settlement is being paid out over several years and involves both cash and 3M stock.

Participation:
To trigger the settlement, at least 98% of claimants had to agree to participate, according to 3M. As of March 2024, participation was reported to exceed 99%.

Payouts:
Claimants will receive varying payouts based on the severity of their injuries. The settlement also includes an expedited payment option for some claimants, according to one YouTube video.

3M's Position:
3M has stated that the settlement is "not an admission of liability" and that the company intends to defend itself in the litigation if the agreed terms of the settlement are not fulfilled, according to CNN.
