Just imagine the numbers if we didn’t watch it to see if Sinners would win?

Why do you think this happened?

On social media (whatever that fake cesspool is real or not) it was ALL anyone (again if its actual humans) was talking about and STILL talking about.

Especially AFTER the BAFTA stuff and SAG awards on Netflix.

People APPEAR to still care. Or don't they?

I know a lotta people don't watch network tv like that anymore, but it was still shocking to see that the numbers were down.

No, Nielsen does not track every single viewer. Instead, they use a representative panel of roughly 42,000 to 100,000 individuals in the U.S. to monitor viewing habits, extrapolating this data to estimate total viewership. Nielsen combines this panel data with "big data" from set-top boxes and smart TVs—now covering roughly 45 million households—to enhance accuracy.
Nielsen +2
Key Aspects of Nielsen Tracking:
  • Sample Panels: Nielsen uses specialized hardware called People Meters in select households to track who is watching, not just if the TV is on.
  • Voluntary Participation: Panelists are chosen to create a representative sample, not from voluntary sign-ups.
  • Big Data Integration: As of 2025, Nielsen merges panel data with data from millions of smart TVs for more precise measurement, particularly for streaming and sports.
  • Data Usage: This data is used to determine advertising rates and show cancellations, rather than recording every individual in the country.
    Nielsen +4
While the panel is small compared to the total U.S. population, it is designed to be statistically representative.

Yes and I was invited twice.
That's great!

Although, the Nielsen family members are supposed to remain anonymous it would be nice to see a Demographic breakdown of the panel.

In addition, a Demographics breakdown of the members of the "Academy" (the Oscars) also.

That might help the general public have a better understanding of television ratings and Oscars winners.
