Ironheart lands its lead writer. I'm ready to see this one.

Why didn't they conduct some field research and interview actual black women who when to MIT and have them give some input, instead of making her come off like a character from Degrassi. For example, why not model Ironheart from a real-life intelligent black person? Oh, I forgot the Hollywood taboo of not allowing blacks to appear too intelligent, plus I bet they thought that their target audience my be turned off by a "black nerd" being the protagonist... Is this true????

The most important thing to realize here is that black people are not a monolith. And not being monolithic, means there are a whole bunch of ways to skin a smart black cat.

I've already used Jamal from finding Forrester as an example of black people who are genius Level Smart trying to assimilate to average brain surroundings to fit in. Every black nerd doesn't have to be Steve Urkel with glasses and a pocket protector.

They had to fag it up some how some way.
SMH
Disney is going fo disney . Its Hollywood for that matter. I was watching doom patrol a few months back.and that shows full of it too. At this point i refuse to let it bother me just either look the other way and ignore it Its no worse than what they did in eternals. As longas there are no kissing or sex scenes then its whatever. Its a waste of time and energy complaining at this point.

Do you think Daredevil was handled correctly by being released one episode at a time?

I waited until the season wrapped before watching so I could marathon the whole season in a weekend. And tbh, I thought Disney+ Daredevil was the weakest by far. If I had tried to watch it week to week, I don't think I would have made it to the end.

But going back to the discussion thread on here, it appears most people loved Daredevil Rehashed.

I just don't seem to be on the same page with most BGOL members when it comes to these Disney/Star Wars/Marvel shows.
DD was ok the netflix were better. the punisher saved the show for me
with daredevil the released the first 3 then did it weekly
me personally just drop the full season

I've just learned to be patience. I enjoyed most of the Marvel Netflix stuff because I marathoned watched them in a weekend. I think these shows hit better that way since they're basically just a Marvel movie stretched out.

Most aren't good enough to keep my attention over a 6-10 week period :dunno:
Even the bad shows are more digestible if you get them over with quickly vs forcing yourself to hate watch once a week for 2 & month.

Ironheart is only 6 episodes and the rest drops later this week. The next 3 episodes might make all the complains as far completely mute. No one would watch the 1st act of a movie and then give a review.

Nobody asked me, but you know figure I’d share my shit take… I want anything black to succeed and so I’m willing to overlook things that are a problem, but I just think that they went out their way to check every agenda box if you will. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the show cause it was unapologetically black there were some guys at work, who couldn’t get it because they were white and I love that for the show. But it definitely has problems and it seem like Disney was just shoving this shit out to get it over with.

Idk man
I can't see myself portraying a racist for clicks

A lot of folks have thrown the "racist" tag on folks for disagreeing with bullshit. A lot of Gary's rants are due to what hollywood is doing.
Did you ever see his rant about how hollywood is allergic to casting a "masculine straight black man"? I think folks like to pick and choose their outrage because someone is shitting on their favorite show/project/movie.

I just started this and I really don't want to watch a man with eye shadow, lipstick and long ass fingernails. Is this character all throughout future episodes? I had to turn this sassy shit off.

Nah if you listen to enough of him and his crew the dog whistles are there
I used to listen to him a few years ago but then I peeped the shit
Hollywood did great with Sinners but he never made a video about it.
He made a post on Twitter and all his klan member followers were up in arms

Here is my gripe. To be that smart takes so much work and effort, studying while others are hanging out, reading, and developing their mathematical skills. How about showing some of that, showing the sacrifices she had to make to be where she is in life?
Instead, they choose to focus on her being relatable and rebellious, almost catering to our egos that there is nothing wrong with the way we conduct business, it's the system, no need to apply ourselves, instead let's root out the system.
While the system is flawed, to me, the biggest flaw is that the system is pandering to us by telling us not to work hard and study, apply ourselves. See how that works?
I look at it as another attempt by Hollywood to pacify us, putting us under the spell that one day, if we keep doing what we are doing, we will have this savior come and defeat the system by doing exactly what we are doing. But in reality most of the geniuses are nurtured and groomed from a very young age, and bust their asses often working three times harder than their white colliges. Like I said before, why not talk to some actual black genius and get their perspective, the way they would have if this were a gangster movie or a drug dealer movie.
Because to me, this is as corny and unrealistic as a movie about the BMF starring Will Smith and that Steave Urkle dude.

Not trying to come at you sideways, but do you think that the gays would look at things being unapologetic gay, were Hollywood to only cast them as slamming fruit cakes? Joe about if all the whites in Spike Lee movies were red neck Hicks? My point I want you to think long and hard about is where do you draw the line between typecasting certain roles to us and being unapologetic black? Is Nril DeGrass Tyson unapologetic black in your book, or does unapologetic black have to have a particular vernacular and attitude?
Lastly are you okay with Disney or any other white person being the arbitur to govern what is black muchless unapologetic black?

Oh, I absolutely hear you—but let’s not confuse unapologetically Black with performatively stereotypical. I don’t need to sag my jeans, drop AAVE every other word, or throw up a fist on command to validate my Blackness. I’m just as unapologetically Black reading Baldwin in a cardigan as someone vibing to Boosie in a do-rag.
If Neil deGrasse Tyson walking into NASA with a fade and astrophysics degree isn’t unapologetically Black, I don’t know what is. Being Black isn’t a costume or a dialect—it’s a lived experience that wears many suits, from tailored to tech startup casual. And as for Disney or any other corporate gatekeeper playing traffic cop on what counts as “real” Blackness? That’s the joke. They can market diversity all they want, but we’ve been diverse before they figured out how to tokenize it. So no, I’m not waiting on any Mouse-eared messiah to hand me a stamp of approval. My culture doesn’t need permission to exist in every form it takes.

Thank you for making that clear because I've heard people conflate black stereotypes with being more black or thinking that if a person doesn't fit their preference of black they automatically feel they are
Less black.
In short black, like our skin hue is a spectrum and this is what makes us beautiful, so I my opinion if anyone tries to place one aspect of who we are over another just to paint a narrative is disrespectful towards us as a whole, so for Disney to seemingly go out of their way to ignore black intelligent and heterosexual, individuals in favor of the same old fluff even when the script practically screams gore it, has me believing these are the parts of the black spectrum that makes them uncomfortable, to which i say fuck them!

2nd episode definitely better than the first. The world building is different than how they do it in the movies. One thing I notice with shows based in the Midwest, they try to lean in HEAVY on where they're at. Some of the suburban cities and cultural references in Illinois get mentioned, but if you aren't from here it goes over your head. They also did this in the 4400 reboot show. Just say you want some chips and give them Better Made chips. Nobody from Detroit asks for Better Made chips. Where did this whole TNNL thing come from? When did something like this get built? Something as advanced as this and it isn't in any other Marvel shows? This is like acting the toll transponder technology is ONLY in Illinois and everywhere else is using toll booth attendants. What was the purpose of them attacking the people in that control center?

I like the show, I think some things could have been written differently to showcase the actors talents, but then I remember that this show isn't made for me. This makes sense to teens. If I sit and watch Sonic the Hedgehog I find SO MANY holes, but it makes perfect sense to my son. The holes aren't a bug they're a feature! If you're 30+ looking at this thinking you're going to get Iron Man, you're either a fool or paid by someone to trash a show for clicks and likes. The show is fine for what it is, I can watch a show with my family any thing else after that is icing on this cake.

So the racist shit he say online is not real life? Do you at least check him or since it reall life you let it slide cuz IRL you got a friend.

So, you go around "checking" folks for what they say online?

There's a way of testing someone's temperature without the conflict. We had a good conversation about a couple of things, and he was genuine a decent dude off the internet.

So, was Gary racist for liking Sinners?

Only thing I'm checking is your assertion that a racist pos is a decent dude. Like what you like, but post it on the internet and you just might get challenged. Thems the rules like it or not.
