Just a few pages ago. Someone posted one of those Mount Rushmore memes that positioned Pinky as one of the Top 5 Black female porn stars of all time. This dude responded with a long post screeching about how Pinky isn't a top porn star. Didn't present any logical case to support his point, but he seemed to have some sort of deep-seated emotional distaste for Pinky, like maybe she had rejected him in high school or something.

So I replied to him making a good faith case for Pinky being possibly the most important Black female of the last 20 years. I was super respectful about it too. I mean... y'all seen my posts here for the past couple years. I doubt you'll find any instance of me ever calling anybody out their name, or attacking a person rather than an argument. I don't roll like that.

So yeah, I prefaced it that I've never even been a huge fan of Pinky but nobody who looks at the facts objectively can deny her impact: She was really the first Black porn star--male or female--to fully embrace the possibilities of branding. From her hair to the sounds she made while fucking, she made them all part of a distinct brand. She was the first to really successfully engage with online marketing. Her website was a major hub. She insinuated herself into the hip-hop mainstream. Did interviews with mainstream outlets where she was funny, charming, and brutally honest about her life and thoughts. She was essential in bringing a lot of new talent into the game... and not just girls! Rico Strong will tell you that Pinky was the one who put him on.

In the days before online porn made pretty much everybody in America a porn viewer, you remember those days when the conventional wisdom was that if you knew porn stars' names you were probably a freak and a sicko? Most normal people could probably identify only one porn star by name: Jenna Jameson. Black porn stars? none. But I don't think it's that Ed was actually discovering these girls. It seems more like they had a rotation, a narrative sequence. And Ed just happened to be the first point of contact.

So a girl would first appear in Black Dirty Debutantes. And then next she'd be in Freaks Hoes and Flows. Or maybe Sugarwalls. And then she'd show up in Black Street Hookers. And then in Woodburn's Inner City Black Cheerleader Search. And then Booty Talk. And then from that point, she builds a career... or she just disappears.

I barely even think of Ed as part of the Black porn industry in fact. He was just the gateway, the baptism of fire that the girls had to get past in order to proceed along the path of their porn journey. I mentioned before that his videos didn't have the sense of style that defined the Black porn industry: he was highly uninspiring as both a performer and a director.

Most of his scenes were out-of-focus, poorly framed shots of him pumping away sluggishly while the girl either tries to conceal her disgust or even laughs at him. And then at the end, he'd ask them if they enjoyed it... and they'd often say no.
