Movie News: Oscars 2025 Shortlist Announced in 10 Categories: ‘Emilia Pérez’, ‘Wicked’ ‘Dune 2’ & ‘Gladiator 2 UPDATE: FULL LIST!

^^^^

She is good actress but Anora and Emilia need to pay their Academy Award marketing team a serious bonus check.

They BOTH did not deserve all that recognition
It was honestly a weak year overall, none of the performances make or female will be remembered in 5 years and from the nominees the only film that will be watched and remembered in five years is Dune 2

Also Nosferatu was snubbed in several levels imo, how a mid movie like anora beats something with that level of craftsmanship is telling to what the Oscar voters care about.

I don't know if I agree with that I gotta think.

Conclave was masterful Fienes deserved a win.

Yeah I try to watch the nominations each year, while weak i did enjoy most of the nominations in one way or another

In no particular order some of my favorites that dropped last year

Nosferatu
Love lies bleeding
Strange darling
Dune 2
Alien Romulus
Didi
The order
Thelma
La chimera
Green border
Hundreds of beavers(I know it's weird lol)
Memoir of a snail
I saw the tv glow
Ghostlight
Kinds of kindness
Nickel boys cinematography is otherworldly and I guess anora would make the list as well, just not best picture lol

Give me your 10 Academy Award nominations if you were in charge.

Only 10.

Dune 2
Nosferatu
Alien Romulus
Kinds of kindness
Didi
Nickel boys
Strange darling
Anora

Those would probably be my nominees if it was like before where you weren't forced to pick ten

If pressed then I guess add conclave and the brutalist. Lol

Agreed on Didi - really enjoyed that one.

Good nostalgia / coming of age story from the late-2000s.

Reminded me of a good mix of Booksmart, Superbad, and Eighth Grade.

Dìdi (Chinese: 弟弟; lit. 'Younger Brother') is a 2024 American coming-of-age comedy drama film, written, directed, and produced by Sean Wang in his directorial debut. The film stars Izaac Wang and Joan Chen. Carlos López Estrada, Josh Peters and Chris Columbus serve as producers and executive producers under their AntiGravity Academy, Spark Features and Maiden Voyage Pictures banners, respectively. The film portrays Chris, a Taiwanese-American eighth grader (Wang) at the dawn of social media. Chris regularly uses social media to escape from his underwhelming childhood and overburdened mother (Chen), but the Internet also accentuates his preexisting feelings of internalized racism and personal inadequacy.

Dìdi had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2024, where it won the Audience Award: U.S. Dramatic and U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award: Ensemble.[3] It was released in the United States by Focus Features on July 26, 2024. It received positive reviews and was named one of the top 10 independent films of 2024 by the National Board of Review.[4]

Ooh, wild robot slipped my mind! Great movie would definitely put that up there. I see why flown won but I still would have said wild robot over flow.

Wicked was pretty good as well, I like musicals and have wanted to see that on Broadway(especially the original run with I believe idina menzel and christen chenowith in the leads) but never got the chance so it was cool finally getting to see what the whole hype was about.

Someone to keep an eye on - RaMell Ross.

Two Oscar nominations this year, one last year.
His time is coming.

I didn't know he once played ball for Georgetown.

At least Morgan Freeman did a tribute to Gene Hackman.. people once again making a big deal about the In Memoriam segment leaving out Shannen Doherty,Tony Todd, Michelle Trachtenberg etc

This chick was fucking and naked during that whole movie!!...Last year Emma Stone won a oscar for that movie that was fucking a lot in!!..That would have you thinking!!..:hmm:
Lol that's true, difference is that poor things is fantastic and was my favorite movie of last year and if it came out this year that statement would still be true for me Vs anora which is definitely not a bad movie, just not winner material imo.

But the titties where nice, I like Mickey

If s/he had won the audience wouldve probably given her the Dominik Mysterio treatment every time s/he were to talk..

"I would just like to say-"(BOOOOOOOOOOO)

"The Academy recognizes-"(BOOOOOOOOOO) :roflmao2:

Conan tried to throw out the lifeline but still had to pop out on em.

and SAVED that person career because it cut all the tension.

Michelle Trachtenberg, Shannen Doherty, Tony Todd Among Those Omitted From Oscars In Memoriam Segment

“Harriet the Spy” star Michelle Trachtenberg, who died the Wednesday before the Oscars, was not included in the In Memoriam segment. This year, actors including Tony Todd, Chance Perdomo, Alain Delon, “Annie Hall” star Tony Roberts, Linda Lavin, James Darren, Mitzi Gaynor, Martin Mull and “Romeo and Juliet” star Olivia Hussey were also omitted, along with documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock.

s/he was talking slick about George Floyd for one thing. Said some other weird shit I can't remember.
They still let s/he be nominated as best actress. I tell you, it's going to happen and sooner than we think it's going to be a biological male as best actor and a biological male as best actress.

This was a test run. The first time a biological male was nominated for best actress. Women supporting this bullshit are like roaches supporting raid. Nobody saying they can't continue dressing like a girl, I'll just never get down with biological men saying they are women just because they feel like God made a mistake

From the list, the best actress was by far the Brazilian nominee Fernanda Torres

Cynthia Erivo
“Wicked” (Universal Pictures)
Karla Sofía Gascón
“Emilia Pérez” (Netflix)
Mikey Madison
“Anora” (Neon)
Demi Moore ***
“The Substance” (Mubi)
Fernanda Torres
“I’m Still Here” (Sony Pictures Classics)

I HEAR you and Torres is probably the right "Oscar" answer.

But I wouldn't have been mad if Demi Moore won it. We know they gotta give a lifetime achievement one out.

People for some reason are giving Erivo NO CREDIT for that magnificent role. She KILLED it.

The nominations came out first and then the tweets resurfaced.

And the orange new black trans already won an Emmy I think
