I don't know for certain, but I think Drake was a lot of younger people's (read CACs) introduction to hip hop so that sound was all they consumed. Now that they're older and there's a light on Kendrick from the battle, their more mature palate has them open to listening to older Kendrick projects. I know Mr. Morale has gotten a lot of listens too after Drake name-dropped Mother I Sober. That's all I got.
