Just spent the night in the ER because my blood sugar blow up to damn near 600. Black men we got to take this shit seriously. Took 10 hours to get myself down enough to come home and I still have to get all this on file with the VA today.

First time I think I was actually shook about my own health and my stubborn ass just laid in the bed and tried to sleep that shit off at first fam. If my wife didn’t push me into going I might have fucking died last night.

shit came out of the blue like diabetes usually does. I ain’t asking for anything but I been here over 20 years talking shit with y’all. I want us to make sure we’re good for those that are depending on us.

That’s all fam, just stay up.

Diabetes is a pain in the ass cause you can just be having an off day and shit can go banana's for no reason. It's easier to be low than to be high cause too high causes all types of shit to happen on the inside while your body tries to get rid of the sugar.

I'm glad to hear your ok......

Glad to hear you're ok, fam.
Yeah, I had a bit of a health scare last year as well and that shit woke me the fuck up.
Been eating healthy, dropped weight and starting working out. Dropped 30lbs.
Y'all make sure you take your health seriously. You only get ONE life.

DAMN BRO.

Not diabetic but watching my health just the same because these issues come outta nowhere and we usually ain’t ready for that reality.

Just found out I have high blood pressure and that was enough to scare me straight.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Glad you recovered bro.

What were the symptoms you had?

600? Geez nigga. Get that insulin, go on a low carb diet and get your big ass walking!

Do your research on GTF Chromium, Berberine and Alpha Lipoic Acid. I take these with my Metformin to help control my sugar, plus I do cardio 30-45min 4-5x a week. Also, if you're not taking a multi-vitaman, start doing so. Also, look into black seed. Shit will change your life. Get healthy, nigga.

This same shit just happened to a partner of mine, EXCEPT he knew he had the Sugar, but kept drinking and eating like he wanted to. till he blacked out, one day had several mini strokes at same time. Now he's in a VA hospital, can't keep his days straight cause his memory is scrambled. I'm almost 60, I've seen a heard of a lot folks my age checking out early, her lately. Check Your Health!

Glad to hear you’re ok, Shadow.

Solid health PSA / reminder to everyone too.

Especially as we all get older and health issues creep up or linger over time.

My late grandma would often write “health is wealth” on bday and Christmas cards to loved ones. Health is worth more than anything, she’d say. And she always felt a bit overwhelmed as she lived until 81 and didn’t take care of herself and lived life enjoying sweets and no
exercise. Her dad and younger bro who were very health conscious checked out at 50 and 58 respectively. That always sort of messed with her psyche / emotionally.

Thanks for the support, BGOL Fam! Working with my doc and making the appropriate changes now!

Got to be here at least 20 more summers (something my boy said recently)!
Man I just had my wakeup call yesterday. Seriously, I was smashing my girl and couldn't stop sweating. I stopped and almost fainted. I'm on BP medication (amlodipine 10mg a day). I haven't been taking it consistantly this past year. I took a physical last year and my sugar was borderline. I just scheduled an appointment with my doctor on Monday.

When you on meds that’s how quick it can come at you, man. Lifestyle change is huge. In the military I had a fitness program that worked perfectly but it’s almost impossible to Maintain that tempo in retirement. It’s not like I was just doing normal workouts, but you can’t out-PT a bad diet. You gotta watch youself. You girl ain’t gonna appreciate you fucking up you health and it affecting more than just your sex life.

Stay up, fam. Please.

Yeah it was hight 158/99. I kind of know what caused it. The night before had a pint of Bacardi Gold. Got up ant 7am took daughter to college, had Bojangles for breakfast. Then went to my girl's house about noon. Thats when I started sweating and feeling bad. I checked it this morning and it's better 148/88. I think I need to start eating better and lay off the alcohol.

I been slacking on working out since retiring, but I always had a shit diet.

shit just came back and pistol whipped my ass…

my home gym been whispering in my ear, too. Last night was supposed tobe a couples workout with wifey to get us going again.
hey - you can also think in terms of activities instead of exercise - yoga, swimming, mountain bike paths, kayak / canoe, boxing, etc

That's a good point re: shift work. I've talked to coworkers who get off by 11pm - 12:30am and they say the challenging part about getting home and winding down is that it involves latenight snacking ... right before bed. And then trying to figure out what time to wake up the next morning as it's already mid- to late-morning by then and they've gotta head back for 3 - 4:30pm for shift start time.

Another coworker who does 2 weeks of 7am - 3pm, and 2 weeks of 3 - 11pm said he does intermittent fasting and that's helped (6'3", 220, 42yo). Tries to get his meals in between 11am - 7pm. Has always maintained an active lifestyle too ... regularly runs, plays tennis and adult league basketball, and does a little bit of strength training. I mentioned to him to be careful about getting adequate caloric intake and hydration. Sometimes he's extremely active ... and even experienced an episode of heat stroke last year.

Exactly, we took a neighborhood walk last week. Intend to make that a thing. Exploring around like you said but not sure the family will do the adventure thing (kayaking) but they love to ride bikes and we’re ramping that up (as soon as me and wifey buy bikes).

At work we have a short walking track in the atrium and my big boss told me to just walk if you don’t have a project. He does multiple 10 minute walks in his down time. Gonna take him up on that and get at least 1-2 a day in.

Word. At least you know. I stopped smoking blacks in March of 2018. Started running to kick the bad habit. I don’t drink alcohol like I used to and if I do it’s mainly wine.

Diet is definitely key. High BP is common in my family, so I have to get ahead of it. So far I’m good.

Stay on your stuff, fam.

Random question - you think quitting the blacks helped with your BP?

If your type 2 Here's some advice and knowledge.
1.carbs are the enemy.i eat either meat with frozen veggies or meat with salad.
I just recently started using soy sauce and fish sauce on the veggies and boy if it don't taste like some Chinese hands prepared em.those sauces are choc full of sodium tho.
2.take them meds
3.Get that glucose meter

4.exercise brings down blood glucose but..it'll actually go up first. a while after your done it'll start dropping.
5.check out the YouTube channel beat diabetes.i learned a lot from that guy.
6.its more satisfying to eat what you want till your vision starts blurring (retinopathy) and your hands or feet be burning.. (peripheral neuropathy)and those are just the first stages of fuck shit.
7.you are not aloooooone we are fucked with youuuuu.lol
8.dont lay down too much..stay active as much as you can.the heart doesn't like it when you lay down too much.
Check out this site..Its pretty funny and accurately depicts what alot of us go through with our food, that meter and our choices.

Glad you ok my guy...I've been T1D for 5 years now. If my sister didn't get on me about going to the doctor I probably wouldn't be here. I was pretty much a walking zombie and like most men just felt like it would go away.
