I need some advice from the BGOL fam about strokes and stroke symptons. Mother in law has been experiencing headaches the last week or so mostly just nuances nothing debilitating. tonight in a conversation with her sister she became confused on who she had just got of the phone with(within 5 mins of call) when she was asked again she hesitated for 20-30 secs before finally piecing the names together. they checked her blood sugar which was 88 and her blood pressure was 130/85 slightly high but nothing concerning. she seemed to have a 5/10 min stretch where she was genuinely confused however after my wife talked to her she seem normal her husband called her from church and he said she sounded fine. Im not convinced I wanna get her to ER for tests but everyone seems to think lets see how she is the next few hours and overnight. What is the BGOL fams opinion and advice on this situation

Always best to go with your gut feeling..better to be safe than sorry..if you worried than take her.. you rather overreact and know that she good than to let it go bye and her condition get worse..my 2 cents
I agree but I got other people including her sister who is a RN saying wait dont over react etc etc

Both my mom and bro had a stroke 2 yrs ago back to back months.. I was fortunate enough to save my mom who was in a coma for a week due to the stroke and heart attack and my older bro got saved cause 1 of his friends rushed him to the hospital.. lucky enough both survived their ordeal.. when it comes to things like strokes don’t play with it, go if you sense something is off.. I have a few friends literarlly right now who have either lost family members or family members are recovering from strokes the past several months.. something going on out here cause lot of people been catching them Lately that’s why I advise you to go if you feel it in your gut

When my landscaping client had a stroke in the 2000s he had partial facial paralysis.

When my friend at work had his stroke in 2016 ... he was unable to speak. He ended up hospitalized for 2 months and in thorough speech therapy relearning the basics like "Hi" and "Hello, how are you?" and fortunately is back to about 90% of where he was formerly. He also had a brain injury from poisoning decades back, so I was worried about his future. He'll be turning 70 this year. Good dude. Salt of the earth. Just saw him yesterday and looked over some of his paperwork for health insurance that his worker will look over in the weeks ahead.

When grandma had her stroke in the late-80s or early-90s babysitting us as kids ... she experienced loss of vision in 1 eye. When she had a stroke at my college graduation in 2003, she got lost walking down the hallway to the washroom, and a classmate of mine redirected her back to the ceremony.

When I was with her that evening preparing to drive her home, she was completely confused. She didn't know where we were, or what event we had attended. She wondered why my parents weren't there (they had been sitting with her for 3 - 4 hours). She was not experiencing any pain or speech / paralysis issues. I immediately knew something was wrong, and called my dad & said let's get her to the local hospital and met up with him there.

Be careful of these healthcare providers, you want to resolve your health issues before ending up in an ambulance. If you 100% rely on their judgment, well you might as well just let the stroke finish you off.

I am dealing with nonsense now, trying to wrap things up so I can take off. They are desperately clinging onto me, I'm sick of seeing doctors that are untruthful. I just wanna come in and get the answers. I need, get the medical records that are supported with labs. Not prolong shit out with babbling nonsense.

an update her husband called and let us know she is severly dehydrated has a signficant calcium and potasium dificency, has signs of a small stroke and they r keeping her overnight to more tests and observe but he said if all does well she will check out tomorrow and be fine with some medicines and diet restrictions and diet additions. We feel much better and r cautiously optimistic. Thanks fam for all those who added to the convo with advice it was helpful and appreciated and pushed me to get on there ass to get her to urgent care

Glad to hear it, @julian .

Props to you for reaching out for advice, and following up to get the ball rolling for them.

Good karma is headed your way.

I just had a near fatal stroke 7 months ago. My advice is to get her to a doctor STAT. Please go with your gut and get her checked out. I said that I was going to do my best to bring awareness about Black people and strokes. I’m sending you positive energy and hoping for the best.

Glad to hear you took out advice and went with your gut feeling and ended up hearing that something was actually wrong with her and that it wasn't something you could just sleep off . Hope for a speedy recovery for her and much props to you cause even though you might not hear all the credit you deserve I'm here to tell you , you are a hero and more likely saved her life, so pat yourself in the back for your actions
