Indiana Jones and Short Round Reunite After Almost 40 Years
by Brian Cronin

It is rare that the internet "breaks" over a positive moment, but that was the case when a photo was shared from the floor of Disney's D23 Expo featuring a reunion between Harrison Ford and Ke Huy Quan, who famously starred together in the iconic blockbuster film, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, back in 1984.

Huy Quan was there because he was recently announced as being part of the second season of Loki, while Ford was presenting a trailer for the fifth (and final) Indiana Jones film.

The photo was posted on Quan's Instagram account, with the caption, "I love you, Indy.” Indiana Jones and Short Round reunited after 38 years."

The reaction to the photo online was of pure joy. Director Edgar Wright replied to Quan's post with, "Amazing!" Rolling Stone chief TV critic, Alan Sepinwall, tweeted, "Sometimes, there is still room for joy in this world." A lot of fans had fun with one of the lines that Quan's character, Short Round, told Ford's Indiana Jones in the film, with Talking Bay 94 tweeting, "NO TIME FOR LOVE DOCTOR JONES."

The joy was not just reserved for the rest of the internet, obviously, as numerous posters online noted that this was the happiest that they have ever seen Harrison Ford look in a photo before, with tweets like, "I’ve never seen Harrison Ford this happy" and "I’m pretty sure that’s the most joy I’ve ever seen on Harrison Ford’s face."
Earlier this year, during an interview promoting his return to acting in Everything Everywhere All At Once, Quan recalled the experience of doing his first film ever with Ford, one of the most famous actors in Hollywood:
He's one of the generous actors I've ever met and because it was my first time [acting], he was constantly behind the camera helping Steven get that performance out of me. When we were in Sri Lanka, we all stayed in the same hotel and every time we wrapped for the day, I would go swimming. I didn't know how to swim before, and it was actually Harrison Ford who taught me! To this day, I thank him for that.
Loki Season 2 is set for a Summer 2023 premiere. The first season is currently available to stream on Disney+. Indiana Jones 5 arrives in theaters on June 30, 2023.

So happy to see him getting current shine in this year’s Everything ...
To use a basketball analogy, it's like an NBA player coming back to the league after years away, and his jumper is still dead-eye and he's still has mobility. That's what happened to Ke, he came back with that fire and charisma which translated well to the big screen. It's beautiful to see.

Yup. Glad to see him co-star alongside Yeoh in a well-received, wild ride of a movie.

He stayed away from the (on-screen) biz for decades and didn’t feed into the bullshit roles being offered. Got his chance to return and remind muthafuckas why they liked his screen presence many decades back!

Tru dat, bruh!

Nah, I'm teasing you, I've seen Stand by Me. I saw it when it came out in the 80s, one of my favorite actors was River Phoenix, he was going places.

Agreed. Solid movie. Saw it on a school weeknight downtown. Great memory. Mom and aunt took cousin and me as kids.

River was legit. Rest in peace.

Wild how his brother Joaquin is a certified award-winning talent in his own right too. In a perfect world he would still be around to take in all his brother’s success, and have a solid career too.

Their relationship, River and Joaquin's, reminded me of Jim and John Belushi where after Johh died then Jim had to step up and be a star in his own right. Of course, Jim didn't reach the same heights as Joaquin, but the effort was there.

Yeah, he was one of my favorite people, funny as fuk. Sad, much much too young.

I need to circle back and watch more of his stuff on Youtube. Watched The Blues Brothers on vhs with mom, and have seen his SNL highlight clips. Only have seen part of Animal House. He was before my time, as he died when I was only 2yo so I caught up on his work in the late-90s and early-00s.

On a similar note...
did you know The Golden Child was played by a female?

I don't know what made him funny when I think back at it 'cause in his roles he usually didn't say much and when he did, it was revelatory; it was a comedic treat. I think it were his non-verbals that grounded his comedy, though. He was masterful at it.

anyway,

It's called racism, not on Spielberg and Lucas' part, but on the whole industry's part. & they did offer Ke some roles, but they were stereotypical and, again, racist.
yeah i know. shit he was even lucky black actors get done worse. at least he did some great work behind the scenes
but what i meant was with all the cloud steve and lucas had
u would think they would gave him something
doesnt even had to be leading role.

I mean, they gave him two classic films: Indiana Jones and Goonies, that's not bad. :dunno:
