New Study: Intermittent Fasting Does Nothing

Cant speak on whatever the latest diet/fad is, but I'll tell you this Black man.
DO SOMETHING!

just had a HS homie die of a stroke last week. Age 40 or so. Bigger guy, always on social media grilling and chilling.
Smh

We gotta do better on our health!

I'm not a body builder or doctor but just talking with bodybuilders and I my own doctor, if you can't get what you need from food then you will have to supplement.

An example may be protein. Or your energy levels are low for some reason, etc...

Depending on your lifestyle and yes your fitness goal(s) you may have to supplement from time to time.
That's the point though. You have to find out through doing blood test to determine what you are actually deficit in. By just taking supplements blindly you may be wasting money and wasting your organ time trying to process unneeded overages of what you already have plenty of.
It's like opening your car hood and just adding fluids without checking to see if fluids are even needed.

I've advised folks that not everyone is disciplined to do intermittent fasting and also eat correctly. For me, watching salt, drinking more fluids and keeping calories 2K or less has been the key for maintaining my progress. Previous years hovering around and over 200lbs was taking a toll which I think was more due to eating late and sleeping with food in my stomach. Now staying under 190, with a final goal closer to 170-175, which is 10lbs over what I weighed at 18.

This dope. I am doing a detox right now and I am down about 10lbs.....Can you share your routine?

Thanks
Absolutely Bru.

Love to see it. Keep up the good work.

I tell folks all the time, focus on getting healthy first (eating right, more importantly eliminating certain foods that you've been accustomed to eating) then it will be easier to get your desired weight/ physical physique.

Lol, when your veins/arteries get clogged, it is no surprise blood does not flow properly to the dick. To be fair, it was cuz I was working so hard (in front of a computer)
I sit a lot for work, did you get a cushion for circulation?

I'm almost at my target weight. Only need to lose the last 4 pounds.
It's been a long long road. But i'm almost there.

According to this body fat calculator

I'm at 13% body fat at the moment. The calculator is far from accurate. But i see my upper abs popping (without flexing). I almost have no love handles anymore.

Still need to lose that last bit of fat (lower back fat and lower belly fat). I think i'm at 12-15% at the moment. Unfornately i do have a little bit loose skin on my lower belly. It's the worst when i'm bending forward. But hey... it is what it is.

Lost 103 lbs in total.

At the moment i'm doing a 20:4 fast. I break my fast with oats, banana, blueberries, nuts, seeds and cacao. It's taste like a healthy choclat dessert. It's arround 700 calories. But it keeps me full for hours. I only drink water. And 1 black coffee in the morning.

I only eat 2 meals a day. And i start my first meal at 1pm.

Congrats bro! What is your second meal?

A bunch of veggies, advocado, beans (lentils) and mushrooms. Sometimes i add in a sweet potato too.

I'm vegan so i don't eat meat. I just stick with whole foods most of the time. I don't eat processed food (except some almond milk for my oats). I don't eat added sugars.

The last pounds are the hardest. So most of the time i eat the same thing everyday. When you eat random stuff. It's hard to stay in a deficit. When you eat the same thing, you can just lose weight on auto-pilot.

Congratulations my brother.
For those last pounds you may have to switch it up. Change your routine because your body has adjusted and probably working against your effort at this point and trying maintain your bodyweight.

Maybe i will plan a few refeed days (eating at maintenance). So my metabolism doesn't slow down.

I'm in a 600 cal deficit at the moment.
It seems to work. I'm never really hungry; High-fiber foods keep you full longer and curb down hunger.

But you can't stay in a deficit forever. Don't think it's healthy long term. So a few refeed days might do the job.

Overall i think fasting has its health benefits. But purely as a weight loss tool. It doesn't do anything special. It only helps you to stay in a deficit.

It might sound cliche. But in the end weight loss is all about calories in and calories out. If you just want to lose weight, it doesn't really matter what you eat.
