New Study: Intermittent Fasting Does Nothing

I can’t read the article cause of the paywall, but I respect the science and if the facts say so, then they say so. No arguing there.

However in practical application, I’ve found intermittent fasting and keto to work wonders for me personally.

Clarity, clear mind, shedding excess pounds, alertness, more energy, less grogginess.

There’s no denying this part of intermittent fasting either.

Many cultures and religions around the world fast regularly. History has shown us that we aren’t meant to eat 3 square meals a day.

Starving your body will always make you lose weight, the problem is you’ll end up putting it on fast as hell once you eat outside the norm. You shock the body and it’s not good

Agreed. I have witnessed folks, myself included, put it back on afterwards rather quickly. That’s why the exit strategy of most of these fasts are just as important as the fast itself. If you moderate getting back onto 3 squares a day, you can shed it and keep it off, but you gotta be smart about it.

Can’t fast for a month then jump back into McDonald’s or fast food daily.
 
Fasting is something you should never stop. It is the way.

Why are you not supposed to eat past 8pm? And not eating past 8 is essentially the same as intermittent fasting.

I agree that fasting makes no difference with weight loss because of calories in vs. calories out, but fasting helps put you in ketosis quickly, which leads to direct fat loss. If you're not eating, then your body uses it's fat energy stores (after it depletes it's glycogen stores). However, if you eat 4000 calories during your eating period then you cancel out the fat you burned in ketosis. But if you're disciplined, you eat the correct amount of calories to create a deficit and you fast, then yes fat loss comes.

You could replace intermittent fasting with exercise and come out with the same results as long as the diet stays the same, eating at maintenance or a caloric deficit.

Fasting has other benefits though, including autophagy, which helps reduce collagen breakdown, therefore reducing loose skin.

there is some truth to this... while I will never fuck with pork or red meat,

I will never be a hardcore vegan, its took me a decade to realize

I function better and carry a healthier weight if I eat..

Salmon every now and then... Avacados work well too..

but the salmon even helps avoid brain fog I used to get often

being a hardcore vegan..

My plate still consist of 80 percent greens and root veggies,

but healthy fat especially from Fish like Salmon, Cod is a must for me..

Just make sure that the salmon is wild caught and not the fish farm variety. Most of the fish farm salmon are grey in colour and injected with coloring to make it red.

good farm raised shit, that is raised in alaskan

waters with the vegation needed... and they do

NOT dye the water like a lot of those fisheries do,

but you are gonna pay for it...

Wild caught salmon just has a better velvety taste tho

to me...shit just melts in your mouth like butter,

farm raised can be a bit flakey and like you said palish,

the ones that arent are usually dyed...

the best is that flash frozen shit overnighted from alaska

Stop spreading this bullshit. Do we need dairy products? No we dont because we can get calcium, protein, etc from other sources, but milk is a easy source of those nutrients and can be part of a healthy diet.

If you are the type of person who eats everything they would have eaten throughout the day, but just in that 4-6 hour window, then yeah, it's not going to do anything for you. There's a ton of people who do just that and then go on and on about how they aren't losing weight.
 
The title of the article is misleading. The study does not understand the key reasons why people fast.
Right, you are necessarily restricting the time you can consume calories meaning less calories on average. Caloric deficit = weight loss. Who financed the research?

Allegedly the mideast has "some" of the lowest cancer rates in the world, which may be true, due to the large population of Muslims fasting (Ramadan), and the Jewish people of Israel fast throughout the year as well.

Another example is the African nation Niger, almost 100% of the population is Muslim and the cancer rates are very low.
