$1M bond set for 3 suspects accused in beating death of Akron teenager outside I Promise School
Published: Jun. 13, 2022 at 7:00 AM
AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - The three men charged in the beating death of a 17-year-old boy in the parking lot of the I Promise School pleaded not guilty at their arraignment in Akron Municipal Court Monday morning.

U.S. Marshals and Akron police officers arrested Deshawn Stafford Jr., 20, Tyler Stafford, 19, and Donovon Jones, 21, on Saturday, June 11. All three are charged with murder and are being held on a $1 million bond.
According to Akron police, Ethan Liming died after being brutally assaulted in the parking lot of the I Promise School in the 400 block of W. Market Street around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 2.

Akron Police Chief Stephen Mylett said Liming and three other teens drove into the parking lot of the school and started discharging a SplatRBall gun at people on the basketball court. It is not clear if Liming fired the SplatRBall gun. Both groups then began fighting and Liming was knocked unconscious, said police. Liming’s family members said the suspects continued to beat him until he was dead.

One of Liming’s friends called 911 and when officers arrived at the I Promise School, Liming was pronounced dead at the scene. Chief Mylett also said Liming’s friends and the people on the basketball court were no longer at the school. “There is nothing to indicate race played a role in this homicide,” said Chief Mylett.

My son died because of a toy. And just goofing around as a teenager," Liming's father Bill told 3News. “Our whole family is beyond thankful for the help the community has given us. Throughout this whole process we’ve seen horrific things, but the good we’ve seen is just so much brighter. We love our son, and we miss him dearly.”

Shameful, it was an accidental death. They should get no time. But white folks being white folks and paying the victim card.

Fucked up all around.
* Toy guns are guns in these streets.
*Play stupid games…. :smh:
*They should have just beat their asses; no need to stomp or for the extra.
*Cac said her son died over a toy; when it was the actions WITH the toy and who they targeted.
*Cacs could have stayed in the car, kept driving and they’d be eating mayonnaise sandwiches today.
*Guns don’t kill people-the inability to fight after pointing and shooting a fake one at a group of dudes who ain’t for games.
*Saudi’s are taking over golf from cacs.

On January 4, 2021, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed a “stand your ground” bill into law, making Ohio the 36th state to pass this type of legislation. [1] The bill, SB175, removed the “duty to retreat” requirement, “in determining whether or not a person who used force in self-defense, defense of another, or defense of that person’s residence reasonably believed that the force was necessary to prevent injury, loss, or risk to life or safety.” [2] The bill went into effect April 6th, 2021. [3]
Under previous Ohio law, the use of force was only justified in self-defense when: the person using self-defense was not the aggressor, there was an imminent threat of death, there was a not a reasonable means of retreat, and the use of such force was reasonable. [4] Ohio also had the “castle doctrine”, where a person does not have the duty to retreat and may use force against anyone who unlawfully enters their residence or vehicle. [5]
The new law expanded the castle doctrine, in that there is no duty to retreat from and attacker in any place where one is lawfully present, so long as you are not the aggressor and if it is under the reasonable belief that the use of force is in defense of life. [6] In the past when someone used force in self-defense, it was their burden to prove they were justified in court; however, now due to a law passed in 2019, the burden is now on the state to prove that the use of force was not in self-defense. [7]
This new law has may Ohioan’s divided and is a hotly debated topic. While some are seeing it as important for their safety, others are concerned about an increase in gun violence [8] Eric Delbert, owner of LEPD Firearms and Range and a central Ohio police officer argues, “It’s going to help Ohioans better protect themselves without first having to retreat.” [9] On the other hand, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther argues, “Stand Your Ground, which is reckless public policy that’s going to make it more dangerous for people in this community.” [10]
While the “Stand Your Ground” bill has been a priority for gun rights groups in Ohio, gun control advocates had previously urged Gov. DeWine to veto the bill. Gov. DeWine himself, seemed to be in conflict with the bill as well. [11] In 2019 after the mass shooting in Dayton, Gov. DeWine had urged lawmakers to set “Stand Your Ground” aside and focus on “common sense” gun reforms. [12] Gov. DeWine proposed to, “raise penalties against violent offenders caught with guns, expand the ability for courts to confiscate firearms, and improve the state’s background check process.” [13] However, the bill faltered in committee, but Gov. DeWine still suggested in December of 2020 that he might veto “Stand Your Ground.” [14] Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley expressed his disappointment for Gov. DeWine signing the bill, and criticized him further by writing, “Gov. DeWine came to our city and stood on stage for a vigil for our murdered friends and neighbors, and then told us he stood with our community in our fight against gun violence. Now it seems he does not.” [15]
Thanks for this.

I was just about to ask how these boys will show defense for this. If there was enough to show the attack was racially motivated and there response was in defense.

His own "friends" left him for dead. We need to hear from them and the 911 tape.

911 call:

You hear dude on the phone say "its all good bro" to the brothers who beat that cac. Its sounds like the young brothers were still heated at the friends for the dumb shit they did.

I wish the brothers stayed at the scene so they could have explained that they feared for their lives after being shot at & didn't know if it was a real gun. I hope they have a good lawyer, this shit was self defense toy gun or not in the current climate we're in.

During Monday’s appearance, DeShawn Stafford Jr.’s attorney, Jonathan Sinn, told the court that his client, who goes by "Shawn," was defending himself at the time of the alleged crimes.
"Shawn was up there playing basketball with his brother and his cousin," Sinn said. "He is 5-foot-5, 130 pounds, and it was just the three of them on the court playing when a car-load of kids, a car-load of teenagers … pulled into the lot. At that point they opened their windows and opened fire with, what at the time seemed to be a fully automatic firearm."

He called the weapon "a fully automatic paintball gun" that can be modified with the use of frozen ammunition.
"After these boys were sprayed with the firearm, then the boys from the other vehicle got out, chased them onto the court, assaulted them and a fight did ensue where my client is alleged to have defended himself," Sinn went on.
He further argued that Liming "hit the cement" when he "allegedly got punched," adding that "the injury from the cement may have been what caused the ultimate damage here."
Sinn said his client has no prior record of felony crimes.
"These boys were on the basketball court, unarmed, doing what we want them to do, playing basketball when kids from outside the neighborhood came in in a vehicle, sprayed them with this crazy paintball gun," he went on.

The murder is an overcharge anyway they can slice it . Manslaughter or involuntary manslaughter ..

Not to forget according to the reports the black cats who got shot at ran and those from the shooter's car got out and followed s it could be listed as mutual combatants

The actions of the dead and his friends are what caused the death. without their actions, there would have been no eath.

And because their actions can be charged as assault and death resulting from their crime, the dead dude's friends should be charged in his death as well.

Again, why aren't they charging his "friends"?!! Why isn't his mouthpiece bringing this up?
Cause If Its True His Friends Are Black They Are Gonna Use Them as a Shield for Anti Black Violence/Racially Motivated Attack Claims Probably in Exchange for Immunity Against Prosecution for Their Role in This
