New Grambling women’s volleyball coach cuts ENTIRE roster, leaving many without scholarships

I see nothing wrong. She's making everyone tryout again so she can have her team.

In most cases, coaches have losing seasons in their first few seasons because the team they are coaching isn't their team.

Nowhere in the article does it state they will have a chance to tryout or auction for their spots. It also states HS recruiting offers have been rescinded.....

That chick CLEANED HOUSE and is bringing in her old squad........and thats fucked up

The coach is black and a former Grambling VB player. She used to coach at Ark Pine Bluff and is apparently having several of her old players transfer in

She also rescinded offers for HS recruits who committed to Grambling :smh:

Whoa! I keep telling y’all this weave is the first sign of mental illness. She’s probably in love with one of her players or several and had to bring em along. I can’t take any dark skin blonde weaved up, eye lashed chick seriously. Jamelle Hill lookin ass.

I’m sorry but if that was my kid scholarship she was cutting like that, I’m getting goons to put hands on her

Not sticking up for her, but she has the right to do this. Scholarships are renewed on a yearly basis. Coaches who come to other schools often have their players transfer with them. Happens in college sports (most notably basketball) all the time.

However...

... it's fucked up that a WHOLE TEAM was let go. Did she discuss the player's status with them on an individual basis? I don't believe everyone on the team couldn't play, or had a bad attitude, or had bad grades. There has to be a lot more to this. The current players deserve at least a chance to fight for their spot on the team. A new coach has to clean house to a certain extent, but the coach doesn't have to blow the house up (unless there's a good reason), but I don't see a reason to make this drastic of a change.
Men's college basketball? I honestly can't think of any players that leave with the coach. Honestly the first time me seeing a player leave with the coach is the OU football Coach and qb going to USC together

No, she did not bring in her old squad. This is also not in the article.

I've known of coaches to do this. Make everyone tryout, to get the best players. Why is it wrong to do that? They were losing. She's supposed to keep people on scholarship that wasn't performing well?

This is a case of be careful what you ask for.

Mofokrs wanted that transfer portal that lets athletes transfer and not have to sit out so this is what you get.

When kids had to sit out a year they put more thought into transferring. My sons coach got fired at the end of his sophomore season and there were inquiries from every conference to his intention to transfer or stay. Having to sit a year was a major topic in that process

And coaches would convince kids to transfer during end-of-season exit interviews instead of not renewing scholarships because at that time not renewing could be a recruiting nightmare...You didn't want to be known as a coach/program that wouldn't renew.

Now transfer can be done with immediate eligibility to play...

Y'all want it both ways, you want rules that give no loyalty to the program but what the program to be loyal to the players.

Can't have it both ways.

I’ve seen this happen before when I was in school. It wasn’t the ENTIRE team though.

New coaches usually bring in a few of their players. College sports is shady business.

A college athlete is ALWAYS replaceable in any given season rather on scholarship or not. We can think it’s fucked up, but anyone who has played sports in college know these things happen. Maybe not to this magnitude, but sport scholarship isn’t a contract.

Look at this year's cinderella team from the NCAA tourney... Coach is leaving and about 3 of their studs have entered the transfer portal..

You didn't see it before because they had 5 years to play 4 and they had to sit a year.

Then they changed the first part, if they graduated on time they could play their 5th year..

Keep changing shit without looking at the big pictures and then whine when you get fuked.

How is she gonna do tryouts, in good faith, when she already has 14 of the 19 spots are for players coming in?

"Howard told KSLA-TV that recruiting efforts have already started to replace the players who were cut from the roster.

“It’s her decision to make, and she has some quality players coming on board,” Howard said. “I think 13 or 14 are coming on board at some point. So, I hate to say out with the old, but in with the new a little bit.”

"For Maurisa Harris, a Grambling State junior, three practices weren't enough to show her skills.

"I didn't really get any time to show what I could do," Harris told KSLA. "When I was in there and she told me, my heart completely broke. Of course, I didn't cry in there, but I did when I left and it just hurts really bad, the fact that it was snatched away so fast."

This is one wack azz crazy looking bitch. She definitely looks like she don't care about her people and thinks the job is beneath her. These sistas ain't going to play professional. They just trying to graduate and be a college athlete. :smh: we not supposed to treat or folks like that especially the youth.

Maybe the previous coach accepted subpar players for questionable reasons. Maybe she is trying to win

It happens more now that you don't have to sit out a year. Cincinnati had a new coach this season and 4 of his old players transferred over from UNC Greensboro

4 out of 12 is way different than 14/15 out of 19

It happened at WSSU when we went D1. That new coach we got from Hampton brought in players of his own and a few players were cut from the roster because of it.

No one said the 14-15 are all transfers from UAPB

That was my senior year. I don't think any Hampton players came over with Bobby Collins

Yeah this is foul, why did the coach leave her other school? I’d think when the school hired her they felt she could be a good coach for the team they already had and I’d figure she applied for the job because she felt the team was good.

It said nothing about UAPB players. She may have dine her own recruiting and have grabbed players from various walks of life.

This happens all the time regarding inventing narratives that do not exist to sensationalize a scenario.

Ain't no tryouts in NCAA..

Shit there weren't no tryouts in HS in the CPS..

They held an open gym and let mofokrs hoop ause the rules said they had to have tryouts

So wait, she put up this shitty flyer on twitter with her personal email address on it?

A quick google search shows she was coach at Alcorn State, before taking the UA-PineBluff job in 2019. So presumably she's got the connections in SWAC volleyball circles.

But yeah this some next level fuckery in general.

That flyer is some bs, what does she expect to happen some volleyball playing broads are just going to pop up out of nowhere. For the most part any women talented enough were already playing. I mean you have an exception or two at times, where someone was good in HS & just doesn't want to play in college. But that's rare, so she's just putting this crap up as a smoke screen.

This happens all the time....especially in D1 basketball & football. It's just usually done discreetly so players can save face. I remember when John Calipari was hired at Memphis back in 2000. He got rid of damn near half the team. He let players announce that they were transferring, but in reality they were told that their scholarships weren't being renewed. That allows players to avoid the perception that they cant cut it at a major program. GSU's volleyball team has been trash for years and the coach wants to win. It sucks, but not surprising. It's a business at the end of the day.

Best of luck to those young ladies.

Last season records:
UAPB 18-15
Grambling 11-17
13-3 in the conference, and SWAC Champs, pretty impressive... She has a good resume, but the scope of the situation is pretty shitty... I fault grampax AD more so than her, for allowing this to happen - there should've been restraints/limitations in place...

So you're saying she recruited 14/15 non-UAPB players/commitments in the 2 months she's been at the job?! How realistic is that. And how realistic is it that the current scouts would have helped her recruit that many players, knowing they currently had full squad?!

Look, she may have recruited a few players, but for the AD to say in public that she has 14/15 ( 3 different articles use either number) players coming in..... the natural assumption is that the majority are commitments and players from her former team.

Now hopefully I'm wrong.......

but playa with at least 14 spots taken, you have to admit that that "tryout" is some fuck shit. A public tryout at that, not "former players come out at 5pm and then open to the public at 7pm".... nah you bring your bum asses out to compete with the public for 4/5 of your old spots......

I disagree with y’all. Yes she rescinded scholarships, but she also awarded scholarships to players she felt were more deserving. The new rules dictate that scholarships aren’t grandfathered in so they can be rescinded.

If the Grambling players are good, they will get scooped up by other teams. College sports is a business.

The guy that made that statement should be reprimanded though. That was really bad taste. Why do HBCUs have CACs in their administration anyway?

My brother, not sure if you know how things work, she knew she had the job months before her start date. Coaches do this with staff all the time. Wipe out an entire coaching staff and start from scratch.

Ok, cool you made your point on that.....

Moving on.....do you think that tryout is bullshit or not?
