Report that unnamed witness heard Stephen Ross offer Brian Flores $100,000 for each 2019 loss disappears from NFL.com
Posted by Mike Florio on February 4, 2022, 10:06 PM EST

One of the most fascinating developments in a week full of them occurred when NFL Network, the media operation partially owned by Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, reported that an unnamed witness heard Ross offer former Dolphins coach Brian Flores $100,000 for each game he lost in 2019. The report, delivered on the air by Cameron Wolfe, became an article posted at NFL.com.

Now, the article is gone. The link is dead. The stack of news stories at NFL.com no longer includes it.

It’s unclear when it disappeared. I checked to see if it was still alive after Ross issued an aggressive statement late Wednesday, describing the allegations as “false, malicious, and defamatory.”

Currently, it’s gone. (The original link appears in the story we posted early Wednesday evening.)

It’s no surprise. Ross faces potential criminal liability under the Sports Bribery Act. The real surprise is that the story ever was published in the first place. Did the folks who put it on the air and on the web realize they were jumping onto a third rail, or did they accidentally trip over it?

Even though the story is gone, the truth remains that an employee of the NFL is aware of the name of a witness who can corroborate Flores’s claim for Ross offering cash for losses. It will be interesting to see whether the league or anyone else (like, you know, a prosecutor) wants to know the person’s name.

just proves there is a very large affluent audience for racist right wing sh*t.

The real question is much like parlor...

Are these "celebrities" willing to be marked as that for HISTORY?

Are WE as a people gonna stop letting folk off the hook?

Y’all still can’t believe this shit…… Joe was considered by many left leaning even admitting he votes mostly democrat

need to stop acting like racist aren’t prevalent on both sides

:smh::rolleyes: Nobody ever said there wasn’t but to falsely equate both sides being the same is pure bullshit. There’s only one party that is majority white , racist and against anything and everything Black.

NFL just knocked Flores class action suit out of the box with the signing of Lovey Smith and Mike McDaniel who identifies not as black but
"multi-racial". No way to prove the only reason they were hired is because of the suit but c'mon everybody knows the deal. They were both hired to fail because Houston is in disarray and have no Deshaun Watson at QB, and McDaniel although being the 49ers offensive coordinator you can bet Kyle Shanahan called all the plays.

I'm betting Lovey and McDaniel won't last more than two years after their teams finish with losing records. Then the NFL owners will say, "see it's not about race, it's always been about hiring the best person for the job". Well they'll have a hard time selling that when just yesterday New Orleans hires a three time head coach with an 8 and 28 record and and Miami hires McDaniel over the undeniably qualified Eric Bieniemy. Move over Kap, Brian Flores is coming to join you on the blacklist.

one recent hire does not negate ongoing racial disparities in the NFL's hiring policies.

its still game on for Flores.

Tiki Barber Condemns Warning from Stephen A. Smith: ‘Threatening Another Black Man is Not What This Country Should Be About’
By Brandon ContesFeb 8th, 2022, 12:00 pm

After Stephen A. Smith closed Monday’s First Take on ESPN by issuing a warning to Tiki Barber, the former NFL star responded on his New York radio show.

“It is not worth my emotional energy to get bent out of shape about something that I have no control over. I have much respect for Stephen A. Smith,” Barber said Tuesday morning on his WFAN midday show co-hosted by Brandon Tierney.

“If he felt affronted by a conversation that I was having, that wasn’t really about him,” Barber continued. “It was about how we have used an hijacked racism to make excuses for failing diversity initiatives – then I apologize to Stephen A. Smith.”

Barber didn’t get “bent out of shape,” but the former NFL star would go on to condemn what he believed was a threat from Smith.

“He is the prominent Black journalist on a major network, and threatening another Black man is not what this country should be about. Period,” Barber said.

Smith’s gripe with Barber stemmed from the retired running back’s defense of the New York Giants organization from allegations of racism.
“I can’t sit here, with conviction, like Stephen A. — who doesn’t know anybody in the Giants’ organization — and claim that they’re a racist organization,” Barber said last week on WFAN.

Smith fired back Monday morning, blasting Barber’s apparent attack on his journalistic credibility. During his response, Smith raised eyebrows by declaring that he knows “a lot of stuff” about Barber and strongly suggested the former Giants running back, “Chill out. Watch yourself. And know who you’re talking about.”

Maybe so, hope so, but it gonna be difficult to prove in court in light of the hiring of Lovey Smith and Mike McDaniel and the elevation of several more black assistant coaches to offensive and defensive coordinator. What will Flores attorneys rebuttal be when even though the gains are miniscule they are gains and there is no quota agreement in place with the Players Union as far as I know.

The NFL will lose in the court of public opinion but I'm not so sure it will in the courts. I expect they'll be an out of court settlement where the NFL admits to the need for improvement and will agree to show cause why a candidate with superior qualifications and coaching history was not hired in favor of someone having a lesser resume and experience. But even that will not happen for years as the League will stall as long as it can without negatively affecting teams bottom lines. As for Flores expect him to be offered a head coaching job probably next year or sooner because the longer he stays unemployed the more guilty the NFL will look to the public.

It's hard to believe the NFL would engage in a pissing contest with Flores and adopt an "I show his black ass" posture" rather than just add his hiring to Smith's and McDaniel's and bolster their defense against the suit. :hmm:

Aye mayne, what are you basing your opinion on the outcome of the lawsuit on?

Is it a gut feeling or precedent?

Gut feeling and numbers. Since 2010 there have been over one million workplace discrimination suits filed. In 82 percent of those cases, the worker did not receive any form of relief. However, because of the notoriety associated with this case I think despite the negative numbers the NFL will see the benefit of settling the suit by agreeing to in the future show cause why a seemingly more qualified black candidate was not hired. :hmm:
