How did they did they determine that a vaccine was 95% effective. They took
42, 000 and separated them into two halves to remove biases related to their
health, social activities, etc. One half was given the test vaccine; the other was
given a placebo. Only the scientists knew who was in the test group, and who
was not. Following the second dose, and the elapsing of a suitable amout of
time, the participants were tested for covid again, 172 tested positive, of those,
only 8 were vaccinated. If 8/172=0.047= 4.7%; it meant that the vaccine was
95.3 % effective in preventing infection by covid.
