Anyone On Here Play The Guitar/Bass?

Best advice I can give you: Treat your bass like a drum kit. The E string is your kick drum. The A is your floor tum. The muted D is your snare. The muted G is your high hit cymbal, and the unmuted snare is your cymbal.Yeah. I can't wait to get into the pedals.

Got mine for $30... Priced it at $100.
I now have three Fender amps...the mist recent purchase is prolly worth $250, by itself....paid less than 100 for all three.
If you look, you'll find it at the price you want...that's my motto now with musical stuff.

I definitely appreciate the help man. Just you explaining certain things helps me visualize things differently. And listening to you play helped me realize there my strings were fine where they were. I think I was hitting the E string too hard. I was getting that metal clang sound. When I lightened it up a bit and started bouncing my thumb off the E string I got good tone.

However, today I flipped my guitar and tried to play a riff with my left...took me a few seconds to get the fingers to cooperate, but I got it...
Don't lemme find a good deal on a lefty
I may just reverse string one of my girls, until then, and play it upside down.

Getting a bit faster doing my spider exercises on the fretboard. I noticed my fingers don't jump up as much on the fretboard. I'm gaining more control of them. My bar chords sound better and better too. Wanna get those jazz rhtym chords down now. They sound really good when you do them right.

I've found, now, when I learn a new song, sometimes I just wanna get the begining and let my fingers just find the rest of the notes...
After awhile, you kinda get an idea where a guitarist is going, especially if you know the song, well.
Now, I'm really tryna get into the tone from both the guitar and the amp.
I've looked on Pinterest for different amp settings, and it's made a big difference.
Hey, Sorry man, just seeing this. I do my own setups. Check the relief on your neck first. You may have a back bow that needs straightening. Check the height of the bridge as well. If you have a back bow on your neck, you need to tighten the truss rod by inserting an allen wrench (make sure it's the proper size wrench) and turning clockwise. If the truss rod is working properly, it should flatten the neck out. Don't over tighten though. You need some relief. Once that's done, lower the saddles on the bridge until you find the action to your liking. Here's a video that may help.

It would be a lonnnnng time before I could master that. But with YouTube, there are vids to teach you each note, for even the most difficult tunes. It just depends on how badly you wanna learn something.
I spent an hour, last night, going over and over a 60 second YT vid...and it was a tune I was already familiar with.
Walsh..got an exercise for you.
Place all 4 fingers on the heavy E string, 5th -8th frets.
Without playing, move one finger at a time to the next fret over. The key is you can't lift up any of the other fingers, as you move that one finger.
So you go from E string to A string..5-8 fret..D string 5-8, until you're done.
Shit seems easy til that ring finger wants to get up and move, too....a few times, I was looking at that finger TRYING to keep it still, but to no avail.
It took me several attempts to get it down.

It's a hard exercise when you 1st start out. But it has certainly helped me with speed and keep my fingers closer to the fretboard. It's amazing how far your fingers jump off the fretboard when you 1st start. Your fingers have a mind of their own in the beginning. You have to train them to stay right there without jumping.Yyyep, the spider.

Getting better with my chord changes. Using
Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Let the Midnight Special" , "Fortunate Son" and "Bad Moon Rising" to help with changes with D, G, A, A7, C and F. Excellent practice with those songs for changes.

Guys, remember when practicing scales and arpeggios major or minor remember to practice them backwards as well. Will help you memorize the patterns faster. May feel weird at 1st but trust me it helps.

GONNA GET RID OF MY ROLAND JC40 JAZZ CHORUS AMP AND GET THIS ONE INSTEAD FOR WHEN MY FENDER AMERICAN PROFESSIONAL II STRATOCASTER COMES IN JANUARY.
ALSO GONNA TRADE IN MY IBANEZ GEORGE BENSON. ONCE I PLAY THE STRAT I WON'T GO BACK TO IT. I don't like the tones of it when you play rock and R & B. I'm not gonna play a lot of jazz so it's best to get rid of both and get the guitar that's gonna have the best tones for what I want to play. I should have done more research on my own when picking out this equipment instead of blindly listing to my uncle. He likes jazz so he steered me in that direction. I like jazz, but I'm not gonna be playing much of it if any.

The Strat is one of the most versatile guitar's that you can get. Even if you did want to play jazz on it, you can get those tones man. I didn't realize this for years because most of the jazz players that I saw didn't use solid body guitars. Had to change my attitude about Strats.. Using the neck pickup, adjusting tone settings and a softer attack can get the job done. A huge percentage of your tone is going to come from your fingers anyway.
