Charles Smith doesn't get enough mention for his guitar work, especially the Kool & The Gang stuff. I use to think some of these parts were overdubbed..
Excellent point. Seems like everyone wants to solo and play fast and loud. I've been working on my rhythm guitar strumming like Nile Rodgers. My goal is to be very diverse on the guitar with barre chords and with soloing. If you can do more things overall, i believe you'll have more ideas to create.Guitarists don't play like this anymore. I miss the old days. A lot of guys I've played with want to be loud and up in the mix. They don't groove like this. They play full bar chords in the wrong register just muddying up songs. They don't use their ears. Funk guitarists in the past played triads or double stops and they blended in.
Agree!, a lot of musicians don't know how to blend. When I was in high school, an uncle came to one of my rehearsals and the first thing he said to me is that I was too loud, he said you have to learn how to blend in. Most of my gigs nowadays is playing bass and you definitely have to get an understanding with keyboard players because they'll get in the way playing in the bass register, and to me, it sounds terrible and it throws me off.Guitarists don't play like this anymore. Keyboardists who play bass is the bain of my existence!! I won't tolerate it! It's been years since I had to deal with that though.Agree! a lot of musicians don't know how to blend. Easier to practice that shape in G until muscle memory kicks in, then move down to f...Can anyone on here play F majoras as a barre chord.
That shit kicked my ass. Made me quit trying to learn to play the guitar
