Why The US Has No High-Speed Rail

I've followed brightline for a few years. Their terminal at OIA is already completed. They are still in negotiations with land owners along SR528.

Brightline now says it is planning to keep its trains mothballed until at least the middle of 2021, but has revealed forecasted passenger volume and open dates for new stations.

Here’s a complete timeline of new and resumed service forecast by the company:

  • Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach (resumption) – Q3 2021
  • PortMiami (new station opening) – Q1 2022
  • Orlando-Miami (new service beginning) Q4 2022
  • Disney Springs (new station opening) Q4 2023
Brightline is now trying to convert $950 million in short term debt issued last year into long term bonds, in a deal expected to close today. The funds are being used to finance construction of the line to Orlando.

You would think that has heavily populated and powerful the Northeast Corridor has been, they would have developed a high speed rail by now. D.C., Philly, New York and Boston all perfectly aligned.

Where's the innovation?

High-speed rail?

In 1964, Japan became the first country to build and operate a High-Speed Rail line.

U.S is So Far Behind!

Congress is the problem because they are so divided, but they only reflect the division of the citizens of this country.

There was supposed to be high speed rail connecting Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. But the racists in Wisconsin didnt want it in their state.

Great informational update on the Brightline railway construction project to Orlando from South Florida.

I gave up on thinking America was going to innovate or improve in the 21st Century. We'd rather bomb black and brown people instead of improve life here.
They are proposing a MagLev here in Prince George's but there is already opposition. It would link Bmore and DC in under a half hour. The only thing we have is the MARC train and Amtrak. We are way behind.

I think it has more to do with history than anything.

Most American cities reached their peak during the age of the automobile at a time when fuel was cheap. Nobody considered the environmental impact. And nobody considered that the United States could double in population over the next 70 years. Our massive highway system was built in part because the government wanted to be able to mobilize troops quickly in case of a nuclear attack.

looking back we can see how wrong those decisions were, but how do you tell that to the millions of families that sunk their life savings into a house in the suburbs and a car note they can barely afford?

Japan never had that problem because they started their massive train building efforts during a time when the economy was ruined and fuel was scarce. People couldn't afford cars in the first place so instead it made more sense to build trains.

same thing happened in China, although it's worth mentioning that the Chinese are a bunch of fascist assholes who realize that they could restrict people's freedom of movement more with public transportation then with everybody in a car.

Most European cities came of age before cars were even invented. Their High-Speed rail systems are just upgrades on their existing infrastructures.
You back on that sherm cuzzin?

Orlando and Miami have a shit load of tourists, imagine if they were connected with high speed rail.

I know this has nothing to do with the subject but
I really love Orlando that's why i go so much and I only went to anything Disney related once lol

Brightline’s extension to Orlando is now 83% complete. A vehicle maintenance facility in Orlando was completed in August, and two of our four construction zones are now substantially complete. Nine of ten trainsets have also now been delivered.

Coco Beach to Orlando International Airport construction is done. Now comes ballast work (the rocks) and train testing afterwards.
