The more we raise the minimum wage, the more that the only companies that could afford to pay that rate are giant multi-billion dollar companies.

Capitalism says those are businesses we don't want around since they are broke and unable to compete. Why would a capitalist care that "small business" couldn't compete with more sophisticated firms? NYC and most major cities have had minimum wages of $12-15 for years now. Amazing that we haven't seen capital move in mass from Manhattan to Birmingham or Biloxi.

This isn t the point though. What is happening is that the COVID-19 relief package that just passed by the federal government is the ONLY reason why these businesses have the money to hire again anyway.

Its only been a month when corporations have been sitting on jobs because of uncertainty. Now these folks want to simply say the unemployment is keeping them home......man the jobs just started opening up ONLY due to the government giving employers money.

The only way those narrative works is if you are trying to protect the profit margin of the corporations and owners.

The prices don't rise like that if the owners lessen their profits in order to pay their employees ..

It would cost the fucking same, or people would eat elsewhere. The profit margins are increased when you keep people at 35 hours per week at minimum wage. If you can't afford to pay people, then either flip the fucking burgers yourself, get robots to do it, or get out of the business.

With all the tax breaks and loopholes corporations get, they should be begging us to work, not the other way around. But people are sheep and sheep love to get fleeced and slaughtered.

The government does all kinds of things with banks to control prices such as quantitative easing, interest rates; why can't this be done with labor through unemployment benefits?

Since they balked at moving the minimum wage up to $15 an hour, maybe this should be a permanent way to control wages in the free market. Many of these companies took loans and other freebies from the government which we did not complain about, yet are now trying to take away from us.

They bring in all these corporations into their state with low taxes and paltry benefits to workers. No minority wants to live in these majority white racist states where you will be terrorized with surveillance or will work temporarily than take off when that job ends. If you look at an election map, we cluster around a couple of areas and that is it, and stay unemployed rather than move into these conservative white areas with low unemployment rates. Section 8, unemployment, SNAP is vital to us, to avoid going into the red areas.

Amazon tried to move a corporate office into a minority area cause they know. Many of us are staying unemployed for two years rather than moving into these red areas of the country.

The demographics of the country are changing, this is a deeper issues that will get worse. Our unemployment rate jumped back up to 10 percent which is Depression era numbers. Federal unemployment is a lifeline to many of us.

I am a business owner and I can keep 100. Paying low non livable wages is exploitation. To make a comfortable living and take vacations, buy a house and nice car while your employees struggle to even pay basic things like food is fucked up.

The system IMO hasn't changed it's just so much information being passed around through SM and face to face interactions is different. We literally got twitter heads online all day bashing the government for low wages, or facebook posts complaining about a living wage. The system hasn't changed, we just think differently now.

We start off conversations with how much money we have.. times have changed and we're forcing employers to change.

We need to change what we call homeless, we should market homeless as surplus labor, available upon demand. If you go into any manufacturing facility, they always have somebody that can fill in if you were not able to do the job. Surplus labor is necessary to keep operations running smoothly. If everybody had housing, than that would be a problem because a slight increase in labor needs would affect companies.

Under communism, this is not an issue because the government can order people to perform certain jobs. This is a problem with capitalism and democracy, you have to economically depress somebody by slashing aid to force them to seek out work. We should incorporate some labor planning function with the UI system that direct people to essential jobs that need workers, rather than slashing aid or cutting off benefits to force a 1000 people to apply for one job.
